Interesting, we have been quite impressed with how ours has worked even in a hillclimb / rock climb scenario. You are shifting with the paddles, correct??? Maybe check to see if there isn't any funny business going on with where the shift light has been programmed to come on...not sure if this sets a rev limit or not, but this is the only thing we can thing of. If its brand new, take it back to the dealer and have them check it out. Ours screams up to 10K RPM without issue, we haven't had any problems like what you're mentioning. Good luck, and report back!

@timkuitems44313 жыл бұрын
The car I THINK I want is a model with the lower 1rst & 2nd gears, for climbing slow rocky rugged desert roads. I also THINK I don't need the paddle shifters. Although definitely F1 cool, I just don't think I need them. So ... what model am I looking at? Are the lower gears after market only? Also, talk me in and out of the paddle shifters. Do you think these are "must have" on a YXZ? Car will be used for longer loop desert exploring. The challenges will be getting up and down rugged roads in AZ and So Cal. Will not dune with this car. Will not race, and I know where to go to avoid all the whoops - well mostly. I still end up in whoops some days.
@B58_G203 жыл бұрын
The paddle shifters are awesome, but if you plan on doing slow rocky terrain with a YXZ it sounds like you enjoy a real challenge, in which case I would go with the 3 pedal version. I have a 2019 X3 RC and a 2019 YXZ SS, the X3 will waltz through terrain without breaking a sweat while the YXZ is killing itself, mostly killing the clutch. The YXZ is my favorite machine, but we usually ride in the dunes. If I had to pick a machine for rugged AZ trails I would pick the X3, 10 times out of 10. Fun factor is obviously important, these are toys after all, but the simplicity and sheer capability of the X3 makes it hard to beat in rough terrain.
@timkuitems44313 жыл бұрын
@@B58_G20 I really appreciate your reply. From all the videos I've watched, I've never been able to pick up the comparison you provided. In most videos the commentators either talk about minor details, like where the radio can go, or the car (all of them) is just awesome! Again, thanks for your input.
@B58_G203 жыл бұрын
@@timkuitems4431 Of course, feel free to ask any questions about either machine. I love how they are so different but serve the same purpose, you can learn a lot about someone by putting them in an X3 and a YXZ and seeing which they like best
@UTVSource3 жыл бұрын
Tim, while the revised transmission gearing on the later model YXZs (2019+) is a HUGE improvement to the low speed cruising/crawling manners of the car "slow rocky rugged desert roads" isn't really where the Yamaha shines. The vehicle is very responsive, and seems to drive better the harder it is pushed. We found that at slower speeds in choppy, technical terrain the YXZ beats the occupants up a little bit more than we'd like, and throttle control / shifting gears goes from an absolute pleasure to somewhat of a burden pretty quickly. BUT, that's not to say the YXZ couldn't do what you're looking for...we would just much rather ride that terrain in our new KRX project 😉 Touching on the paddle shifters found on the YXZ1000R SS (Sport Shift)...absolutely love and recommend them. While having the third pedal of the foot-operated clutch is a fun experience, being able to keep your eyes on the trail and hands on the wheel while banging through the gears is an absolute treat. The shift is a confidence-inspiring feeling that doesn't require you to let off the gas or consider any sort of "babying" of the drivetrain...and the auto-clutch will put you in the right gear if for some reason you lose your sense of shifting while having all the fun. The SS model truly gives you an F1 / WRC feeling while zipping around in the Yamaha. NEED IT? No. RECOMMEND IT? Yes. But to get back to the question of what car would be best for your explained use...as Donague mentioned an X3 is an extremely capable & fun machine with a plethora of aftermarket parts & support. Hard to beat it. BUT, we are absolutely loving the experience with our KRX so far and would highly recommend this as another option to look at. Not as "sporty" as an X3 but still an incredible capable and FUN car. Our gut tells us that the Kawasaki KRX would probably be the perfect vehicle for your adventures. Check out our latest video on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3XbkKulpMiBrNU

Love the video! Just picked up this exact rig! Do you have any break in recommendations?
@UTVSource3 жыл бұрын
The YXZ has two break in intervals at 10 & 20 hours. Honestly the only thing we'd recommend is keeping the RPM's a little lower for the first half of that break in process, a good oil change, and then let 'er rip! That being said, always consult your owners manual for the Yamaha-approved method!
@bigpaugh3 жыл бұрын
@@UTVSource sounds good! I'll keep her under 5500RPMs for the first 10 hours and do a oil change. I think in the book they mention to keep it under 8500ishRPMs until that 20 hour mark. Do you recommend I perform another oil change at that 20 hour mark? Thank you for your advice!!
@bradmyers83643 жыл бұрын
@@bigpaugh you should be able to operate on your normal oil change interval on this round. Some will say to change it but you’ll be ok if you are using good oil and not absolutely thrashing it non stop. So depending on how you drive it you can decide what is best is my opinion.

KRX1000 has much better suspension. Sadly, it also has a cvt/belt. There are pro's an con's to each of these machines. They can all go fast. The reality is the YXZ doesn't offer the versatility of also being good at going slow. The KRX excels at crawling- even has a dedicated button for that. I just took it out in MOAB-, UT. I took it up/down the very steep Hell's Revenge trail. It did extremely well. It also went plenty fast and it handles the whoops much better than this one. I saw you bouncing around violently. That was not at all my experience with the KRX- just the opposite. My passenger commented how smooth it soaked up the big bumps- at speed. I just wish it has a real transmission like the YXZ.

I’m a lifelong Yamaha guy and I desperately want the YXZ to be the best car to ever hit the dirt. But unfortunately that’s not true and nothing will fix the basic flaws in the rear suspension. The bottom line is this car was obsolete when it first came out. Adding power is easy but no help when the car tries to kill you in the whoops. I love my YXZ a lot but since my friends bought razors and can am’s I’m risking my life trying to keep up with them. I’m saving up for a Pro R.

@UTVSource3 жыл бұрын
@Darryn We have video of the car in a decent sized whoop section, and we think it does great for a showroom-fresh vehicle. Obviously the shorter wheelbase will do things differently than something like a 4-seat X3 or RZR, but it doesn't make it "garbage". Also, the Fox RC2 shocks on this YXZ have a lot of adjustments that can be made to get this thing dialed in to maintain speed through the big chop without issue. We agree that the suspension setup has it drawbacks, but the way it handled in the whoops wasn't a big issue for us.

Longer wheelbase definitely has it's advantages in certain scenarios!
