This is video showing how to install a new FMF exhaust on a 2 stroke 2021 Yamaha YZ125 dirt bike. After the installation I do a sound comparison between the new FMF and stock exhaust.

Looks great with the FMF it sounded a little deeper but I didn’t think that the stock one was bad at idle I definitely liked the stock one better but I’d say as far as performance and the way it’s going to run FMF is got to give it a little more horsepower mid range definitely let us know how it goes looking to get my daughter one of these bikes she’s graduating from an 85YZ she’s outgrew

I rode a friends 125 and enjoyed how under powered it was. I thought it would be fun to switch it up. Part of me does think a 250 2 stroke would have been the better purchase. so you don’t have to jet out your carb if you put a new exhust on it?
@AndrewDeVries2113 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if I’ll need to make any adjustments or not to the carb. I normally ride in the summer when it’s 65-90 deg out. I’ll wait till then to see if I need to make any changes. It’s 20 degrees and snowing out now. The weather conditions would make more of a change in how it runs than the new exhaust. I’m going to ride indoor next week and I’m really curious to see how it goes. I’ll try and comment back after.
@ajhayes45823 жыл бұрын
Looks like you are from PA (or close). I have same bike and same pipe. Just dropped the main 1 size, 1/2 turn out on air screw and it's good. It felt rich on top in summer w that pipe and stock jetting. Good luck.

Have you ever tried the shorty with a stock header? Because I was looking to buy a fmf shorty but I didn’t want to spend $250 plus on a header alone. If you have tried this can you tell me if it made any difference in the sound or power. Also great video 👍
@weston51462 жыл бұрын
The expansion chamber is the part that gives most of the power. You probably won’t notice much with just the header besides mabey sound

@@weston5146 you just contradicted yourself but we get it lol
@Jordan348_MX11 ай бұрын
Back in the day a lot of the MX mechanics told us to do this same thing, keeping stock header for performance and throwing on a slip-on if we just wanted something for looks/sound.
@haskinhardman44453 жыл бұрын
Aside from looking waaayyy better do you notice a change in power ?
@AndrewDeVries2113 жыл бұрын
Ya. It gave it slightly more low end power. I could notice it exiting corners. As far as the top end I didn’t really notice much of anything.

I’m waiting see how it runs this weekend at indoor. It’s 20 degrees out now so hard to get an idea of what it will do in the summer. The weather is a bigger issue than the exhaust for jetting right now. I’ll try and comment back if I make an adjustment.

I just got a 21 yz125 last week still breaking it in but I want to change my whole exhaust setup but I was wondering if you rejetted your carb? Or if you feel like it would need to? I want to go fmf
@AndrewDeVries2113 жыл бұрын
No I haven’t changed any jets from the stock setup. I put the exhaust on in the winter and it’s still 30 degrees out. I took it out last week on a random 55 deg day. I had to adjust the idle and also richened up the air intake screw about a 1/8 turn. Once I get to a track on a warmer day I’ll get a better feel for how it’s running.
@AndrewDeVries2113 жыл бұрын
Not a major update. I did ride at a track over the weekend. About 55 degrees out. I moved the intake screw to lean it back out (since it’s warmer). It ran great. If anything it may be a little lean at wide open throttle. However it’s still spring time. I fully expect that in summer 80 degree weather that it’s going to run fine on the stock settings. Not that surprising since Yamaha probably ships them a little rich from the factory. In the future I’m going to purchase a larger main jet for those random cold weather rides.

@ NOS, How long did it take to get the Bike in? I just ordered the 21 YZ 125 yesterday at Montgomeryville Cycles and the guy said it could be at least 6 months. Last guy that ordered one took 9 months. Insane !!
@GmoZer03 жыл бұрын
@@Sms68 I go by gas tanks so once I was on my third one I was chilling. The first full tank I had I was 1/4-3/4 of throttle every other day for about 30 minutes. I went through all the gears in low rpms. People say it takes 4 hours to break in I have been told it takes 2 but since I don’t know I just go by gas tanks. My bike runs perfect and she rips at the track. When I got my bike it was the last one at Langstons motor sports. They go out quick.! These bikes are fun

I don't know why guy's install short silencers especially on 125s. They rob you of top end pull. It makes the engine rev quicker but you lose out on top. Good for bush riding and very tight tracks supercross. The YZ is already down on power compared to the rest why make it worse. The new 2022 is a game changer. Its just my opinion 👍🇦🇺🇺🇸
