I am very happy with my YZ450, the ability to change maps is awesome. If you don't like the power delivery, no problem, change it. I found it interesting that they didn't mention that easily changed mapping more than once or twice, you can easily get more bottom end grunt if you want it. I also appreciate my engine's longevity, the KX's are sweet but I wouldn't trade it for my YZ's reliability while racing GP's and desert. Also being a taller guy I appreciate the physical size of the YZ, big and tall can be a good thing.

Mark Magness ya with that tuning app in Yamaha’s engineering you don’t have to buy any upgrades for the motor at all. My friends 2019 Kawasaki he did aftermarket exhaust and some tuning chip and still couldn’t pull my Yamaha. Then he tore the top end apart to put a high compression piston in it which cost money and on top of that he has to run expensive fuel.! Just to try to have the power mine does stock. And mine is 2016 lol.. I just rode a 2020 Yamaha 250f and that thing is amazing. I also know several factory team riders that are now with Honda that left star Yamaha and said the Yamaha is ridiculously better than when they finally rode the Honda teams bike. They said there definitely is a difference.

I've watched this shootout twice now and replayed various parts more times than that. Could you elaborate on the final comment(s) you make where you state - overall the MXA wrecking crew would rather ride the KX 450 but when lining up for a race we'd choose the YZF 450....- Are you saying (in stock forms) the the KX (in your test opinion) is best for fun riding vs the Yamaha is best for a serious racer ? Just want to be sure I understand this final point. Thanks for all your hard work that leads to excellent content for us fans/viewers. I always look forward to everything you guys produce.

Excellent shootout! You hit every single point that I would have wanted to hear about. I have owned and raised both the Yamahas and the Kawasakis over the years and you're exactly right about Yamaha being the more bulletproof of the two bikes! one thing that cannot be overlooked however, is the flickability of the Kawasaki because of how skinny it feels compared to the Yamaha period it cannot be overstated, that a wide bike simply does not feel flickable, and throwing whips on the Kawasaki is almost second nature 👍!

I dont get why people hate on the YZ’s air filter design. I think it’s brilliant. It keeps it in the front part of the bike, high on the frame to get the cleanest air possible. With my YZ I have to clean the filter way less often than the traditional design because the traditional design is right near the rear tire, which kicks up a lot of dust and dirt!

Great bike. Great motor and suspension. Feels heavier and less nimble than the kx. The kx has a very light nimble feeling and the motor character is part of that. Love the smooth easy to ride motor. A lot of harping on the soft fork too. For some people I think it’s perfect. But, if you are heavier and or faster it will need stiffer springs and maybe a bit higher oil level.

Sorry but the Yamaha has more power everywhere when you ride them the dyno isn’t pushing air into the motor like when you ride. My friends last year model Kawasaki is still under power compared to my Yamaha and he has put aftermarket exhaust and some other things. Then tore it down to do motor work on it. Put a High compression piston after only 19 hours the cylinder had piston slap marks. Also I’ve had both bikes and you guys saying the Yamaha feels heavy your crazy and it also turns on a dime . The motors on the Yamaha last way longer than any bike period. The valves last also longer than other bikes too. My sons bike has a 150hrs and valves were still in spec and have never been shimmed. I have also worked on other with over a 100hrs. The Honda I had lucky if it got to 50hrs. 242.9 Kawasaki and 245lbs Yamaha so really not much difference. Also ppl that have rode my Yamaha didn’t say the crazy crap you guys said. They love how great it turns in ruts or even on flat. And it’s amazing it the mud. I’ve had all the bikes and you guys seem pretty one sided. Also measure the radiators across there isn’t much difference in width between the bikes. I did that when I had my Kawasaki and Yamaha. I chose Yamaha cause it dose everything really good and you don’t need aftermarket exhaust. The motor is really strong and you can tune it to an arm jerking machine or mellow it out and it last a long time.

Yes, I have ridden a few 450s, and aside from nice suspension right off the bat, the *feel* slow, top-heavy and are about as exciting as watching the dryer at a laundromat. No drama, not hit, no arm-wrenching torque. Yes, my CR is old. But it has an exciting engine with power that has to be approached with respect, but if you have the discipline, you are untouchable. New bike suspension is very good, but not enough to justify it over my revalved stock stuff. It still turns, brakes and accelerates just as good as anything else. Truth be told, most bikes have exceeded their riders capabilities since the early '90s and that hasnt changed.

@@mxr7586 - I think it comes down to how you ride probably. I prefer the lower to mid so the KX is just right, but I can imagine if you prefer the higher end it would not. As I got older I have been less aggressive, haha, my old KX 250 2 stroke doesn't even get started anymore. I have a Yamaha 250 Dual sport and it is a great bike, my 1st bike ever was a Yammy 80cc.....I will ride any of them...even a Honda if I am desperate, haha.
