@@OutFishing13Matthew with your help I just tuned up my 3 year old Boss Hawg that had been out in the elements the past year, I had kind of forgotten about it. I was telling my wife, "Look at this! There's so many things we can do these days thanks to KZbin." The bushings were still in excellent shape, I do want to get the bearings for both eventually, it's nice to see Zebco doesn't engineer the models so different to where you can't upgrade them.

Got the kit today(11-23-24)😊. Went straight to work on my 808 Saltwater. It’s got two pickup pins, with the more complex arms behind the spinner head. I had two plastic bushings and (surprisingly) already has shielded bearings on the pinion shaft. I only had difficulty putting the clip back in…this particular 808 has the long end of the clip up top…and I couldn’t see the anti-reverse pall that was not between the v-shape formed by the anti-reverse lever. Once I had that in correctly, it was a done deal😊. It’s been greased properly and is ready for catfishing next year. Thank you.

@OutFishing13Matthew Жыл бұрын
@@PProgress28 after that the drag is still too tight?
@PProgress28 Жыл бұрын
Ok. Crisis averted. My issue was that I put one of the washers in the wrong way so the reel was not seated properly. This caused the c shaped retainer clip to be very difficult to install and remove. Once I took some time to pull everything apart and set it back in place, everything lined up flush and was easy to put together. That small eight of an inch threw everything off. If anyone is having this issue just take your time. Rewind the above video and put things back exactly the way Matthew did. You'll avoid frustration taking your time.

Hello Matthew!!! Hey you told me about the drag on the 888 does it matter that much if the drag is on the top part of the reel or the star wheel drag? I see a lot of old (pro staff) reels on ebay and was just wondering. Thanks again
@OutFishing13Matthew2 жыл бұрын
Both work very well. Some of the older 888s us a drag that uses a clutch that is built inside the spool.. see my vintage 808 video. Then the others use the modern clutch that uses drag washers and applies pressure to the bottom of the spool. The main difference is the way they are adjusted. Star gear or drag wheel. They both work great.

Scott, You have a valid point. However, I do this primarily for the guys who already have an 808 and need to know how to service it and maybe want to upgrade it. You're right, It would be cheaper to buy an 888 that already has all the bearings. But there are a ton of 808s out there and some guys want to upgrade to stainless steel bearings.
