I love my Zebco 33 rod and reel combo. Bought it last summer (2020) and have been catching some good sized fish. Small sunfish all the way to my personal best on it, a 12 lb channel catfish from a neighbor's pond. It came pre-spooled with 10 lb line. Used it quite a bit, but the line became hard over time. Replaced it with some good ol' Trilene XL 10 lb monofilament. Works a lot better now.

Congrats on the catfish! Hey bud, the spline on that rod is supposed to bend the opposite way. That is, it would work better guides facing down with a spinning reel on it. However, results are what matters and you are producing. Go Man!

Same, people have some weird thing against spincast reels. I grew up using zebco spincast reels and never had any issues with them.

since i pretty much only target catfish nowadays i use "free" bait. expired steak, shrimp, hotdogs, chicken. i have 12 rods/reels but i love using my dock demon 2.5' rods for catfishing. one has a penn pursuit4 4000 with 30lb braid and a 4/0 circle hook and the other has a penn pursuit4 6000 with 80lb braid and a 6/0 circle hook. have not lost a fish since switching to braid. really wish one of my 8000 series reels with 80lb braid or my daiwa df100a with 100lb braid would fit. would be hilarious.

The guides on that rod are spaced for an underspin or egg beater reel, not an overhead. A big cattle will snap that rod when the pressure gives the rod an unnatural parabola. Needs more guides closer together. I feel that you need to dump the closed face for a spinning reel for a stronger set-up.

The rod you are using is made for a spinning reel...not a spincast reel. If you were really catching big catfish I think you would have issues.Great video though.I think that understanding your equipment is a big plus.
