Thx for the wonderful video. Very helpful. We have ordered a NX450h+ but here in Texas we won’t see it for another 15 months from now. We just got on the list. We will be referring back to your videos in the future. We do enjoy watching. 👍

Ended up getting the SplitVolt plug Nema 14-30 24amps. My panel is on the other side of the house so I had electrician add on/off switch and plug on opposite side of shared wall with dryer. Much cheaper and utilize car charging scheduling to charge at night to not interfere with dryer use. I can charge at anytime since I am on electric company Regular Rate instead of Time of Use rates. NX450h+ can take 28amps and set NX to 6.6kw Max in settings and had no problems. At most it takes just over 3 hours to charge.

That's great. That would have been my choice if I had to install something. My dryer plug is in the basement and it's close to to the garage. Just need to feed a cable over to the garage and have it split. How much did it cost?

I don’t remember since I added it for my 2017 Tesla Model S back in December, 2016. I charge between home and the supercharger one mile from my house. I have free supercharging and premium connectivity for life of the car. NX450h+ is now my daily driver but still have the Tesla.

Hi, just one question. Do you now what is the maximum amps. charger to use in this vehicle? Recently i bought a level 2 charger and inside there is a selector for the amps. to be used. Is up to 50 amps. Should i select 32 or more? Thank's!!!!!
@lsft
@lsft 10 ай бұрын
The car accepts a maximum of 32A. Even if you set your charger to 50A, the car will only take 32A. So setting it to 32A would be enough. Unless you have other vehicles that support more than 6.6kWh.

great video... like many others I have been trying to look for a solution. Driven the 450h+ over 9,000 miles so far. It sure is nice to use a public charging station at 220 and have been looking for that for a home plug in... I did read in the manual - the Lexus advises against using an extension cord of any kind. I did like the extra detail you took in sharing with us the rating of the cord you used... I took am concerned about the cable overheading from Lexus or the extension cord or pig tail into the plug overheading. You didnt go into a GFI? BTW - Hi Ted Witte, this is Marcus Witte, living in SoCal and originally from WI
@lsft
@lsft 2 жыл бұрын
If you use GFI, the split will not work as it will trip the GFI socket. Lexus advises against using an extension cord because most people will just use a normal extension cord and it will definitely overheat. I tested this method and touched the cord while it charge and it didn't feel hot at all. It is critical you have the write extension or else it will be bad.

Thank you, I got my nx450h+ 2 weeks ago, been watching your videos nonstop . Right now I only have 110v regular charging at home, it would take 12h anyway, dose it matter to set schedules? For me it just feels like an extra step asking me if immediately charge when plugged in.
@lsft
@lsft 2 жыл бұрын
The immediately charge question is asked every time you power off your car. It's useful if you go to a public charger and want to charge immediately. If you already have a schedule, you don't need to press anything. You just exit the car and let it go away.

Just ignore it when you turn off the vehicle. It's only useful if you are at a public charger and you want to charge your car now.

In Europe, We have 220V charger so we do charge 6 normaly or 2,5 hours from Wallbox (380V). I think the reduction for 110V users is very helpful. For the NX, those 6 hours are super OK for home charging.

this is a great video, I wonder if it's possible to get *4* 120v outlets going at the same time and maybe get a full charge in about 3 hours?
@lsft

I'm not an electrician, but I don't think that is possible. 2 plugs in a different circuit gives 240V. Making 4 plugs won't make it faster. You most likely burn the cable.

Thank you for this very informative video. I was especially glad to see the last minute or so were you used an external charging station. We currently have a Tesla Model 3 and a Tesla charger in our garage. I don't like the Tesla so we're getting rid of it because of the interior. It's just too much hassle to go through the touch screen for everything, otherwise it's a good car. We're looking at the 450 h+ but it's not available here yet. I have an important question for you. The Tesla charger in our garage is 35 KW hour, level 2. I know I can get an adapter that changes the proprietary Tesla plug to the standard J1772 plug that is what you have on the NX, and that is what other power stations use. Do you think I might be able to use the standard Tesla charger I have in my garage to charge this battery using the 1772 adapter?
@lsft
@lsft 2 жыл бұрын
Is your charger a 35Amp charger or kW? Some existing 450h+ owners have used the Tesla charger with the J1772 adapter. It will definitely work.

Thanks@lsft. I will take possession of the vehicle this week. Does the NX come with a 6.6kw charger? I upgraded my electrical panel and had the electrician install a 240 volt plug (50amps)in my garage nema 14-50. Do I need to get an adapter to use the 240 wall plug? Thanks again

The NX comes in 2 chargers 3.3kW or 6.6kW. You will have to check what version you have. In Canada, all NX450h+ comes with 6.6kW. If you already have a 240 volt plug, you will need to get an EV charger like ChargePoint or Grizzl-E level 2 chargers.

When I charge my 450h+ here in the UK, the mobile app reports that the battery is at 100% and EV range is maybe 50 miles but that there is still 30 minutes of charge time remaining until full. During these 30 minutes, the EV range doesn't change; the battery remains at 100% but it continues to pull maybe 1KWh for the 30 minutes. Do you have any thoughts as to what it's doing during this period?

I've got my nx450h+ with 6.6 kW onboard charger. I would like to have a 2.5 hrs charging capability at home. Do I need to buy external charger or would be enough to use J1772 plug connected directly to 240V and 32A? The owners manual specifically indicate that car is equipped with "6.6 kW onboard traction battery charger " i am confused because most of my colleagues telling me that I need to buy external battery charger. What is your recommendation? Edward
@lsft
@lsft 2 жыл бұрын
Edward, Your colleagues are correct. You do need to buy an external EV charger. The EVSE that came with your vehicle is rated at 120V at 12Amps. That is the max you can get. In my video I have it with the EV Doctor to bring it to 240V @12Amps. If you need 32A, you'll need to buy another evse or an EV charger to get the 2.5 hrs charging time. Hope this helps.

I actually do not have a wall charger. The 12 hour charging seems to work for me. If not, I would use this EV Doctor to charge it in about 6 hours. But a few NX owners have installed wall chargers and they are using: ChargePoint Home Flex or the EnelX JuiceBox Do some research on them and see which one works for you.

I don't sleep more than 8 hrs and by the time I go out, it won't be fully charged. There are scenarios where people will need a faster charger. The fastest is level 2 at 2.5 hrs, but this mention is only 6 hours which is still not the fastest possible. But it does give me the opportunity to charge during the day and have a full charge at night when I go out. It may not be for everybody, but at least you are aware this works.
