This is a Motormouth couple car review for the new 2022 Lexus NX450h+ plug-in hybrid or PHEV compact SUV. This PHEV has a 2.5L 4-cylinder with Lexus Hybrid Drive matched to an ECVT with a combined 304 horsepower and 61 km/37 miles of range. It gets about 835 km/550 miles per fill and premium fuel is recommended. Standard AWD. The exterior doesn’t look as angular as the outgoing model, it is more rounded with an enhanced spindle grille, standard silver roof rails, LED fog lights, LED headlights, a slim rear LED light bar, the Lexus script, 18” wheels and run flat tires. Our test model in Cloudburst Grey has some extra features like 20” wheels, premium triple beam headlights and a power rear door with kick sensor. These features including, the exterior and interior colour combo are available in the Executive Package for $15,450 CAD. There are no packages in the US, but you can add a la carte items to the base trim, 20” wheels are standard and our test model colour combo is available on the model along with black, cream or red upholstery. The NX 450h+ starts at $59,950 CAD/$57,225 USD and comes with an impressive amount of standard features like a 14” touchscreen, 7” multi-information display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated and ventilated front leather seats, heated steering wheel, an 8-way power driver and passenger seat, driver seat memory, moonroof and heated rear seats. This Lexus NX450h+ gets a combined 2.8Le/100km, 84 MPGe with a full battery and 6.6L/100km, 36 MPG when the battery is depleted. In Canada, it comes with a 6.6 kW onboard charger but in the US, it’s 3.3 kW. The larger charger is available in the US for $800. With a Level 2 charger it can reach a full charge in 4.5 hours and the 450h+ can tow 2,000 pounds. The new Lexus NX is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model but still not as big as the Acura RDX. In comparison, the RDX is over 3 inches longer, offers almost 2 inches more second row legroom, an extra 6.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 12 cubic feet more overall cargo capacity. The RDX also offers a flat floor in the second row which the NX does not have. Our test model in bright blue with a black & tan interior and black open-pore wood trim looks quite elegant. It has a 14” touchscreen, a 10” head up display leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel which is heated all the way through, power driver and passenger seats, driver seat memory, a 6.6 kWh charger which is standard in Canada, the US gets a standard 3.3 kWh charger and 20” wheels.

I like the grey interior, I'm sick of black everything. The front headlights seem to be hidden, the night view would have been helpful. Having all this horsepower but you can't tow anything, you can't load it up with people and you can't haul stuff. But then again you never get tired of the turbo boost. It's great to see a vehicle anyone can step into, adjust the seat, hit a few buttons and go.

Ordered my NX450h+ back in January, hoping to have it for July ‘23. Well I got it late May! Had it for a month now and I just love this little thing. This is my 4th Lexus, second Hybrid ( just traded in my 2019 ES300h). Took advantage of $13k gvmt rebates (QC). 980 kms so far, 2.1 l/100 avg to date. LOTS of power, nothing to complain about!

Thanks for the review. I'm actually a proud owner of the NX450h+ FSport 3 and the FSport has the Adaptive Variable Suspension which is one of the biggest differences between the executive and the FSport. I agree that the run flat tires aren't as bad as others think and the ride is still very quiet, especially in EV mode only. As with the door handles, I've actually like them and I've noticed myself reaching for the door handle on others cars and realizing it's the old traditional lever. I guess I'm still young to accept new things. 😛 So it's the best PHEV that I've got. I've done many videos on my channel with my experience of this NX PHEV.

Wish the NX 450H offered Nuluxe seats or at least offered an option between Nuluxe or leather. I have Sofex (Toyota version of Nuluxe) in my Toyota Prius V hybrid and it's a fantastic product. It looks as good as new 10 years later. Durable, comfortable, easy to clean and much less emissions to produce vs leather. Plus it's animal friendly.

I went for a 145ish km road trip with my less then a weekold Rav4 Hybrid, resetting the fuel economy monitor. It thinks it got 5.2l/100km(abit sceptical, but I know it did good). Will have to do a "fill to fill" milage test at some point. It's as you said, compliant amd comfortable. Not exciting, but that's good for me. On that drive, I had the Android auto doing maps to show where to go, with the phone in the cubby hole where the usb data port lives. The system kept on losing gps signal. Any little tips on where to place the phone so that's not as likely to happen?

That fuel economy seems to good to be true. I have a 2020 Rav 4 Hybrid Limited with about 14000km on it. In Canada the best I have ever gotten on a tank is 6.1 L/100 with about 60/40 city/highway in the summer. In the winter it hovers around 6.7 L/100. Still good fuel economy for the size but definitely not what Toyota advertises.

Love your review of the 2022 Lexus NX450h+....I live in Hawaii and as soon as I learned about this coming out, I went to our local Lexus dealer and put in my order (August 2021)....I was told it would be 2-5 months, at that point. I actually received it 7.5 months after placing the order (March 2022) - just in time for my bday!!! I got the Atomic Silver with the Palomino tan interior. I'm so glad I had ordered it when I did - the dealership is now having such a hard time getting them that they sold their demo model, so now there are only two of the 450h+ models on the entire island. The current wait time now is a minimum 2 year wait! This is my 5th and final Lexus - I LOVE IT - I'm getting between 500 - 800 miles per tank of gas (70+ miles per gallon) and this is great with the gas prices being so high!....Finally, we're also off of the grid, so the electricity it takes to charge the car is free!!! Aloha from Maui!

Recently I’ve been asked a lot of questions about this new Lexus (along side with the Venza). And probably for good reasons. It seems to be a near perfect size for people (particularly in a city) and also probably for Lexus’s stellar reputation with reliability. But I cannot begin to recommend $75,000 for a ‘nicer’ and quieter RAV4. At that price, I would begin to consider suggesting the domestic (Cadillac/Lincoln) and the Korean cousins (KIA/Hyundai/Genesis) as an option. This new Lexus, I’m sure, is ‘impressive’, but to me it hardly leaves any sort of… ‘impression’. Thanks for the review.

Although this is nowhere near a RAV4 when you drive it, it is still a small SUV with short wheel base, and ride quality & comfort certainly does not feel like $75K for me. BUT on the lowest trim available which is $62k, you have a lot of value + gvmt subsidies. I had mine for 1 month now and just love it! I prefer the Lexus infotainment to Apple car play…which for Lexus and Toyota is absolutely stunning! Ho…almost forgot…This inside door handle is genius! Feels sooo natural, and it is also very save for cyclist. I really like this handle.

I was on the edge of ordering the 350h then the 450 becomes eligible for 5k rebate and I jumped on it. For all the equipment that comes with the 450 base model it's the equivalent of 350h + ultra luxury package, at $56.5k, then factor in the 5k rebate on the 450 base, it becomes a no-brainer choice as it actually costs less and comes with better power + a PLUG!

I couldn’t agree more about the role of subsidies vs paying for infrastructure. I’m not buying an EV until there’s a lot more chargers available. However this PHEV ticks a lot of boxes. Battery most of the time but a ICE when you want to go on trips

Lexus representative said that it's to reduce the weight of the vehicle . Rav4 Prime weights 2508Kg and NX 450h+ already weights 2540Kg. Lexus did not want to increase more weight by adding a spare tire, pano roof and Mark Levinson premium audio to reduce more range. (It's their explanation) They have already added so much weight to do noise insulation. I think for the Executive and F sport, they could at least add panoramic sunroof

It doesn't do quite as well as the RAV4 Prime. You are right, the Prime gets 2.5Le/100 km combined but this NX PHEV gets 2.8Le/100 km combined. Still great fuel economy.

Thousands of Prius 2007 models with No Batt problems and that was yesterdays tech. Today the Batts are liquid cooled and only charge t0 80% These new batts will go 20 to thirty years............Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? I'd say that one of the reasons why every car with a plug is selling is because they have a rebate. We recently purchased a Hyundai Tucson PHEV in the States. The main reason I chose it over the regular hybrid is because it qualifies for a $6,500 tax credit, while the hybrid doesn't. Other than that, I would have just bought the regular hybrid. However, with the credit, the effective price of the PHEV will be less than the hybrid...

If they forced people to pay back the tax credit if they sold the vehicle within a certain time frame (say 2 years), I think you’d see wait times shrink. Too many people are buying EVs/PHEVs and selling them within a very short time frame, I think it’s distorting the market.

@@jasonbotzas4528 they are all sold. you have to visit each Lexus dealer website one by one and check their new vehicle inventory. most of the time they will show all their inventory, on their website, but some dealers show nothing on their website. this is how i shop cars. you can use google maps for faster method. you write Lexus on google map search tab and all Lexus dealers will appear on map. then you can check them one by one on the left they will roll one after another. links to their websites are automatically shown on the left. any Lexus with the 450H designation will be sold almost instantly. i know where there is a brand new Rav4 prime in New Brunswick, but i cannot buy it. as i am in Quebec and it would be a nightmare logistically and financially.

I am fortunate to be the owner of a Kia Sorento PHEV here in the US. I bought it when it started arriving US dealerships late Sept/early October. I walked in to a random Kia dealership and asked about the car, and the salesperson told me it wasn't available yet and then he checked the system and saw one just arrived the day before. I took a test drive and made a quick decision to take the car home (despite it not being my first color choice of Gravity Blue) and left behind my Kia Telluride to the dealership. I know if I passed on it it will be tough to find another one. Absolutely no regret with the purchase. This Lexus NX450h+ is very nice of course but also quite pricey with less room.

Love my 2021 RAV 4 hybrid ( now w/23,000 miles) but one really nagging issue for me is the interior noise level. I commute 60 miles/day on the interstate and it gets tiring. The base model of this Lexus would be my choice but a year or two wait? Luckily my RAV 4 is worth more than I paid two years ago so maybe if I slip the sales manager a couple of $1,000 I can get one sooner.... j/k Fabulous, informative review from a couple of pros...TY!

Great review you both, I totally agree with Zach. The Gov"t should put in the rebates towards charging infrastructure. However, they also need to get the manufactures to build cheaper BEV and PHEVs. In my opinion to get more people into more fuel efficient and BEV vehicles.

The government just lifted the limit for rebates on SUVs from $45,000 to $60,000, so the prices will go up because of this, not down. Good job Feds!

The 450h+ F Sport does Not require Plug in / Infrastructure.............I WANTED the CHOICE.........However, I do-Not Buy any gas and do plug into 120V @ home for 44 miles cost 61 cents for elec / charge.........more than enough to get to work and run errands!.............. for a long trip it gets 89 miles egpm.

It just looks awful low.. I am about 6' 2".. I bet if Lexus would have raised the roof about 2" or 3" it would significantly improved headroom, overall comfort, overall driving enjoyment, overall room, and visibility (for safety).. It would have made a MUCH better vehicle.. It would probably hurt MPG some.. But it would be well worth it to raise roof..

No, just an honest review, I call it as I see it. They were really loud in the pre-production model and I had to call Lexus out on it. But, the finished product is so much better. The difference really surprised me but if BMW can use run-flat tires and insulate the cabin, why not Lexus. - Andrea

We opted for a new 2020 UX gas only, because the fuel savings with the hybrid didn't justify the additional price bump. The UX's smaller size and nimbleness serves us well in our homes in the mountains of Nevada and B.C...without the Hybrid and considerable mountain driving, we still have averaged 30mpg from Day 1. Not bad. And zero problems to boot! We won't trade it before 150k.

The NX 450h with a 16.5k dollar package is around 75-76k!! The gov't gives you 5k bucks The BMW X3 with M sport and exec package, which is like 20-21k dollars in options is 77.5k!! It gets 2500 in gov't rebate. The prices are crazy. I don't think people would pay the premium for these PHEVs or full EVs if the gov't wasn't giving away all of these rebates. Just look at Tesla's sales in Ontario. It fell off a cliff after the govt rebate was pulled. 7 month wait isn't that bad given the Ioniq 5, EV6, Q4 and ID4 all are not even taking orders! A Kia dealer told me 18 month wait. LOL.. Tesla keeps jacking up their prices. A Model Y is 87k now. No rebate.

You are WRONG.........Lexus is Far superior to beemer in build quality alone..........beemer does not get 44 miles plug in and the Lexus 450h+ gains money in re-Sale...........No beemer does that!

I would like to ask most battery has 1500 cycle and then start degradation. Plug in hybrid due to short range need to charge daily just like cellphone. Does the battery need replacement after 4-5 years?

nx450h+ is great, but rav4 prime is much better. Better specs, better ev range and mpg, performances, better 0-60 time and bigger interior for 10k less. And it uses regular gas too.

Hey folks, I asked Lexus Vaughan about the fuel type and they were adamant its Premium only and regular is not an option. Could you please indicate the source of the info in your video that Premium is a recommendation and Regular could be used?

Owners manual says 89 oct Regular .....But hey I NEVER BUY GAS!!! as I get 47 miles per 120Volt charge more than enough for work and around town & Sooooooo VERY quiet never having to fire the ICE!

Why would you say people don’t need a rebate? Sounds ignorant! Everybody should have one. The average car payment is $1000.00 you don’t need to drive a Lexus or luxury vehicle to pay a lot of money.

@@andreaspencer9813 totally agree it's a very comfortable PHEV. Driving mine for a while and then going back to my wife's CT200h, wow what a difference. Even a big difference when compared to the previous NX. This version should have been the first gen NX.
