2022 AIA Singapore Premier League: Young Lions vs Lion City Sailors

Lion City Sailors just became the second team to score 10 in the Singapore League after Geylang United (now Geylang International) did that against Young Lions but scoreline was 10-2 (in August 2003). Actually, in Singapore professional football, this is the third time it has happened including that 13-0 for Albirex Niigata against Police SA in the defunct Singapore League Cup in July 2014. For Lion City Sailors, first time since May 2017 (as Home United) they scored at least 9 in May 2017 (9-3 against Brunei DPMM). And, in all the league games in August till date, there has been 54 goals with at least 4 in those league games.

That Home United team won the League and Cup Double and the coach back then was Englishman from Liverpool, Steve Darby. So, after Kim Do Hoon's sudden resignation, should they rely on a European to succeed, or Luka Lalic to become assistant to the future coach?

The 5th goal for LCS is the best out of the bunch. Rewatched it countless times. Gabriel’s control and pass, Kim shin wook’s awareness to constantly scan for his teammate & opponent and subsequently his movement to drag the YGL defender away to open empty space up for Lestienne. Finally Lestienne’s immediate sprint into space when the YGL defender was pulled out of position by KSW. What an work of art.

Singaporean raised in America. Played academy football in America. Always watched Premier League. Got injured, so instead got my coaching badge. Looking at these games, I don't know why they are making teenagers play against adults. There's something called a learning curve. If a grandmaster in Chess beats you in 2 moves, did you learn anything? I guess you can say you learned how bad you are in comparison. I cannot imagine Singapore football becoming better with "development" like this. Teenagers should be competing with themselves and striving to push each other to be better. Having adults crush them doesn't show, prove, demonstrate, teach anything.

Young Lions shouldn't be disbanded. Stop being myopic. Look at LCS players Faris Ramli, Gabriel Quak & many others who represented SG like Izddin Syafiq. They all were from Young Lions. All kena hammered before. When no clubs wanted them during their NS time due to schedule constraints & uncertainty, it was Young Lions who gave them the platform to play during NS. We wouldn't need Young Lions if clubs were open to taking in NS-related personnels.

FAS. If u love this football league, plss just ban YL from SPL. It's not gonna work. They are going downhill and affect out league reputation. Instead, let the NSF who are playing for YL now, join SFL1/SFL2 or IWL to get their momentum. If possible, invite them to play in the Singapore Cup 2022 rather then inviting foreign team to play in the competition. This will build up the clubs in Singapore and get more recognition for the players.
