New skis from Atomic! You've probably seen all the ads popping up on KZbin. We're psyched to share our thoughts on it after numerous test days.

Yeah to me it feels like they took inspiration from the BC100, Backland 100, then added some metal. Today I skied the BC 100, Backland 100, and Maverick 100 all back to back to back and it was super interesting to feel the differences between them.

Great review, you guys obviously love this ski. Maybe the ski I am looking for. In soft snow and deeper days I ski Liberty Origin 112, I have a pair of older Fisher 108 ti's that really are going to be my tour ski for a bit, I love the way they carve, and how quick and light they are, and with decent float, but I find them them fatiguing in heavy chop, or rough packed trails, so I would be happy touring, skiing powder and trees, carving and soft bumps on them. I had Master Blasters since 2017, just sold them. Though I loved the skis I found myself skiing the liberty 112 in preference when there was any snow and also on crusty snow because the swing weight of the Liberty's felt much lighter. Conversely I never found the Master Blasters had much grip in on hard pack/icyish groomers and even on the 181's I found them a tad sluggish and with their weight and how much tail there is behind you. When I was tired I often felt the ski was skiing me. I now have a pair of Liberty V82's which I find great on groomers, bumps and firmer off trail situations. (I have dipped my toes into technical skiing) So I really need a ski in the middle, the other ski I have my eye on is the Volkl M6, but as you say the tail of the Maverick is much easier to release, I guess I will have to ski both which is always a logistical problem.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Gregory! It does sound like it could be a great ski for you, especially if versatility and specifically edge release is important to you. I do think it falls in between the skis you already own quite nicely. The M6 Mantra is a fantastic ski. It's heavier, more precise, and pulls you into a turn more on groomers, but the Maverick is definitely a more versatile ski. Lighter on your feet too and it sounds like that's a relatively important factor for you. Hope that helps!

Was waiting for this ski review! Could potentially be my new ski for next year! How would you say this compares to the Salomon stance 102 for riding east coast terrain mainly?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest difference is weight. The Stance 102 feels a lot heavier on your feet. It also has more pronounced rocker, so feels heavier and smeary. The Maverick is definitely way more agile, and more responsive too. There are certainly benefits to both, but yeah, to me they feel like pretty different skis.

Hey just wondering. How would you guys compare the Ripstick 106 vs the blaze 106. I love lightweight skis but I also love a decent amount of power for hard pack. Do the elans have a significant amount more edge grip?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
The biggest difference in my opinion is the turn radius and the style of turn they like to make. I do think the Ripstick has more edge grip, but the more noticeable difference is that it prefers a shorter, more mid-radius carve. The Blaze has a much bigger turn radius, so doesn't feel like it comes across the fall line as easily in a carve, but has smooth edge release even in deep snow. They're similar skis in terms of weight and what you can do with them, but there's some significant differences in their shape.

It's hard to argue against the Maverick 100, especially if softer snow is on your plate at all. Currently, I have a Bern Watts Carbon helmet with a Smith I/O Max XL. Jeff has a Sweet Protection Switcher helmet and bounces between Clockwork and Interstellar (favorite) goggles also from Sweet.

I have the Vantage 100 CTI and the Bent Chetler 100. I choose the Vantage almost any day that I want to ski a 100mm ski. The Vantage 100 does every the BC does imo, but allows for more fun on firm flat snow. Powerful and stable but still playful and versatile. Construction is comparable but would you guys say that the Maverick 100 is very similar to the Vantage?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
It's similar in what it accomplishes, but feels different. The Vantage is stiffer and lighter. Mavericks have a lot more vibration damping and feel smoother, but are still more responsive, more powerful, and with greater torsional stiffness than the Bent 100.

Have you guys been on the 95 as well? How to they compare? Seemingly very similar weight wise despite the narrower width, does that make the 95 any stiffer/more demanding? I'm looking for something to maybe stick a Duke PT on for a 2 ski quiver alongside my very piste orientated carving ski. Both this and the Ripstick 96 black edition seem like quite nice options, what would be your thoughts on them? (worth noting that although I have a skinny carving ski and want to put a Duke on these, they'll still be using in resort more than anything else)
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
They're very similar overall. I don't find the 95 any more demanding than the 100, it's just a little quicker edge to edge and feels a little more precise because of that. All 3 of these skis (Ripstick Black included) would be good options for a Duke PT. If you already have a narrower ski, I think I'd either go with the Ripstick 96 or Maverick 100 just for a little more float in soft snow. The Ripstick has more pronounced rocker, so the 96 is going to float more than the Maverick 95. That rocker profile might be the biggest difference in their feel too, including the 100. The Ripsticks are a little easier to release and pivot, while the Mavericks are a little more responsive out of the tips and tails. Hope that helps!

I'm thinking of buying an atomic ski. I'm in between the maverick and the Bent Chetler 100. I really like to carve, but right now I'm getting more into going off piste and learning more freestyle/park skills. Which would you recommend
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
If you're going to be taking it into the park, even a little, I would go with the Bent Chetler. It's way more appropriate in the park and still a good all-mountain ski too. If you take park out of the equation, I'd generally recommend the Maverick for everything else you're looking for, but the BC 100 will be way better in the park.

Honestly, probably 180 cm. I know that's a lot longer than what you've been skiing, but at your height, it still feels like a good choice to me. If that makes you nervous, 172 would work too and would be easier to control and turn, you just might outgrow it so to speak. Hope that helps!

@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
The tail of the Maverick is the biggest difference--it's pretty stiff and exacting while the QST is playful and smeary. Underfoot, they're about in the same league, with both skis able to carve clean and round turns. I definitely like the QST in softer and deeper snow while the Maverick is a solid carver, but is light for having metal, so it's pretty darn quick and maneuverable. I'd lean to the QST based on your stats and application.

Wait so we have the bentchetler 100, backland 107 and these maverick 100- all these three skis look so similar so what really is the difference?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
It does seem silly on paper, but they all have a different personality. The Backland 100 is far lighter than both the BC 100 and Maverick. 1400 g is really, really light, so realistically more of a touring ski than a resort ski. The Maverick gives you a very, very similar shape, but with a construction that's better suited to more aggressive skiing and in-bounds resort terrain. Bent Chetler has more freestyle influence in its design. Softer flex pattern, more rise in the tail, easier edge release in the tail, but not as powerful or with as much vibration damping as the Maverick. Hope that helps answer your question!
@michaelhuber3610

whats the different between this one and bent shelter 100?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
Probably the biggest difference is the shape. The Bent Chetler is a twin tip, while the Maverick is a directional ski. There is some tail rocker, but it's not a twin tip like the BC 100. The next significant difference is construction. The Maverick uses some metal in its construction, which increases vibration damping and gives it a more powerful feel. So, in general, Bent Chetler will be more playful, while the Maverick will feel stronger and more precise from the flatter tail.

Like I said on that video, I ski bumps and a few groomers as well as powder and side hits. I currently don't do switch skiing, but might do that in the future. Can the Maverick do any switch skiing? I'm worried that I might overpower the BC100 on hard carves and at high speed. But at the same time I'm worried the Maverick would be too stiff for jumps. Thanks.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 жыл бұрын
I think you really spelled out some nice differences between the skis, and your hopeful application. You're going to make a sacrifice, you just have to decide what it is. Maverick does great in bumps, trees, groomers and powder, while BC 100 is great in bumps, trees, powder, and park. The groomer is where you're seeing the biggest difference. The Maverick is quite a bit better in this regard. I wouldn't worry so much about switch--the Maverick will do just fine for what you're looking to do.

I am an Atomic fan to start off with for many years.....and after watching all your reviews I get the itch to buy another pair so the wife shudders each time I watch :-). Where does this ski performance / personality fit between the Atomic vantage CTi 100 and the Bent Chetler 100 (yes own them both in 188 cms)... along with 3 other pair of Atomics in quiver.. Again good review maybe I should become a tester for seniors !! to feed my curiosity....Thankyou.

It's kind of like a Vantage 100 CTI but with some influence carried over from the Bent Chetler. It's far more stable at speed than the Bent Chetler in my opinion, but more playful and feels lighter on your feet than the Vantage 100 CTI...

I am 6ft 210 pounds and a solid intermediate skier ... should I get the 180 or the 188?

Definitely go with the 180s. 188 is a lot of ski for your size.

I’m 5ft10 and I bought the 180’s because I felt the 172 is too short. Get the 180 especially if intermediate

Atomic doesn't even sell this ski on their website?

It's new. They're probably limiting sales to select dealers, like us. I also know there's limited quantities of these skis right now, as usually happens with an early production run. They'll be more readily available come summer/fall.

Anyone use these skis in the backcountry touring? How do they fare?
@SkiEssentials

At under 2000 grams for a ski with two sheets of metal, the lightweight touring benefits are hard to ignore.

I like how they used skiers of different styles and abilities. I’m a 64 year old BOOMER and I would really like to develop a boomer quiver. Don’t laugh. So for example 10 years ago, I’d go tot he Brahma or Kendo but now I’m on a pair of 2020 experience 88s for my everyday ski. My fresh snow ski is the now discontinued Soul 7 to complete my BOOMER QUIVER, don’t laugh. I’m sure u get my concept. I need a ski that will carve when I’m up for it but still let’s me back off when I’m tired. In Pow and cut up I need to not get deflected around and it does not need to be a fast ski. What skis would you put in a BOOMER QUIVER? Why? Bcuz I ain’t done yet.

This Maverick 100 TI would be pretty cool to fill the niche between your Experience 88 and Soul 7!

Joe you gave up too soon 😂. Do you like that Soul 7? Personally I can’t abide those floppy skis. This Atomic does sound like an excellent ski for what you’re looking for.

Are these the perfect split between the enforcers and the Black edition Ripsticks??!!

Obviously the 95 ti - but still?

Could be the perfect split for somebody, yeah! That's kind of where it comes down to subjective performance and skiing style more than objective analysis, at least that's how I think of it. I think the most interesting part of that comparison is the Maverick has a longer turn radius than both of those skis, so it would kind of be over-simplifying things to just say it's a split between the two, there are some significant differences as well.

Ski to me looks too big and clunky under your feet as compared to others you’ve skied on.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if that's because of the turn radius. A lot of the skis we've been on lately have shorter turn radii, so can look more dynamic on a groomer, especially at slower/moderate speeds. They don't feel clunky on your feet, at least I don't think so!
