I was on track to be the next Hutch until I pushed too hard in the Crokinole game. Like many before me, I fell victim to the romance and allure of that damned circle dream wrecker. My trainer advised me to take a break but "champions dont rest" and then it happened. I blew out my index finger in a street match in Tulsa. We were playing "Oklahoma rules" that night. Just like that, I'm another statistic. Another has-been. Another broken soul who dreams of a 2nd chance to sit at that cursed wheel. Learn from my story -- The Crokinole Kid
@xAtticus. Жыл бұрын
Same thing happened to me brobeans. Faced a major injury playing hardcore Oklahoma rules. Thought I was done for. Thought my hopes and dreams of having the glamour, the women, the money, the super cars, the fame and everything else that comes with being a professional Crokinoler was all down the drain. Except I was one of the fortunate ones. With enough commitment and dedication, I made a full recovery. Now I’m climbing the ladder back to the top of pro Crokinole. Only difference is now I show up in a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads every time I play. I’m done messin around. I mean business. Even decorated my helmet with dinosaur stickers to intimidate my opponent and establish dominance.
@davesharp5472 Жыл бұрын

@@davesharp5472 I’ll add a sticker onto my helmet reading “In loving memory of the Crokinole Kid” along with some flames and perhaps a bazooka. All holographic. In your honor.

@@xAtticus. That would be nice. Even though my index finger points about 90 degrees the wrong direction, the thought that glorious helmet and a holographic flame and bazooka sticker makes it almost worth it. I still can’t point at stuff physically, but know that in my heart I’m pointing straight at that generous act of kindness.

My church always said fingers belong in noses not Crokinole circles. I lived by those words even when Lucifer sent unholy tingles to tempt my finger. Nay, I placed my finger in my nostril instead of that Jezebel circle. Remember, "He who hath fingers, probably has a hand." - 1st Extremedous Chapter 3 Verse 1

It was a dark day for the shuffle board players. After taking up arms to defend the bastion of shuffle the clouds grew thick as seafoam at the same moment the wind began to roar. The tension had grown heavy amongst the geriatrics holding the sticks used to push pucks across rec center floors across the Americas when all of a sudden one of them screamed with raised stick. The wind stirred like a whirlpool and cometh the lightning striking down all holding walkers with tennis balls on the feet. With the army halved a loud booming laughter came from above "Hah hah hah haaaa.... Behold the finger of Crokinole!" It was at that moment the Shuffle Master General realized their mistake. They had forgotten to make that important call to secure the local gym for practice and now they either need to play the world's greatest sport or be cast aside to the back alley and inevitable demise, just like feather bowling.

Players alternate turns trying to take valid shots and score the most points they can. A valid shot is determined by one factor. If an opponents piece is on the board or not. If an opponent has a piece on the board a valid shot is achieved by having any or your buttons touch an opponents button as part of your shot. If there is no opposing buttons on the board then a valid shot is getting your button to touch the line of the center circle or be in the center circle. If your shot is not valid the button you shot and any other of your buttons you touched as part of your shot are removed from the board. After each player takes 12 shots you count the score to see who won the round as follows. Making a shot in the center awards 20 points and you get to remove that piece and bank the points. If at the end you have a button within the area with all the pegs it awards 15 points. The area just outside the pegs is 10 and the outer area is worth 5 points. For scoring buttons if you are on the line you take the lower possible score. If you won that round you get 2 points if it was a tie each player gets 1 point. You keep playing rounds until you reach whatever score you and your opponent decided to go for. 9 and 11 are commonly used as the scoring goal of the game. Hopefully that wasn't too confusing lol.

The Ocho was already a real thing in the 80s. Back in those very hairy and very scary days, it was called “ESPN”. You could tune in any time of day or night and see international strong man competitions (shoutout to Magnus Ver Magnusson!), championship log rolling, roller derby, pro billiards, Australian rules football, top fuel drag racing and many more niche “sports” that may have been of interest to 0.00001% of the population.

Been a while since I’ve watched a game, but my friends and I play 20 for dookies, 10 in the circle, 5 on the outside. The amount of the player with the most (lets say 25 pts) gets subtracted the amount of the player with the least (let’s say 10), and gets 15 pts. First to 100. Looks like they’re just doing a modified scoring version where winning a round nets you 2 pts and tying gets each person 1.
