2022 BMW 230i Coupe: Start Up, Exhaust, Test Drive, Walkaround and Review

I’m a sucker for BMWs. But in my last two car searches they have come in second. This is a great car for an entry level BMW. I wasn’t sure about the purple but when I saw the beige interior it was like “aw….nice! Thanks Brian!

I just bought a 2023 model of this car with the new gauges and large screen. I bought it as a daily/around town/road trip for two car. It’s sporty enough, seats are very comfortable, the proportions are ideal. When I want more of s sporty drive, I take out my 911 Carrera S with the manual. If I need more practicality, it’s the RS3 with the four doors. I like my new 230i very much.

This car is whats making me switch back to bmw i had a 320i in 2015 in highschool since then ive had a c300 and the new cla250 love them but bmw did such an impressive job on this

In Europe you can get the 2er with a 220i and 220d as well. We also get the 230i, and of course the M240i xDrive.

I think this is the first time I've seen a purple Beemer haha. And I bet it would really pop off in direct sunlight. I can only imagine how fast the 240i is!

The standard gauges on this car are so infinitely better than the Live Cockpit Pro; I sincerely wish I could option the Adaptive Headlights separate from the Premium Package on mine specifically for that reason. And they should totally have given the M240i the round exhaust!

Is the Live Cockpit Pro the gauges we see on all the bigger BMW cars? I didn't like this setup, too basic. I havent been around the M240 just yet to see that

@@BrosFOURRSpeed It's the full LCD option with the backwards tach on the right. All the larger models also have it as an option, I think it's only standard on the 7 and 8, though. The problem is that the Live Cockpit is harder to read and it doesn't really do anything the regular gauges don't; BMW does not really leverage the full LCD arrangement the way Audi and MB do.

Oh gotcha. This is the first new BMW I've been in that didn't have that display. TO be honest I like how it works. It only gives you the info when you need it. When your nav is up, its in the gauges, same with the cruise. Mercedes and Audi have much more configurable screens. But I like how BMW keeps it simple and nice

I owned a '94 318is for 20 years until I sold it and purchased my current 2012 128i. I'm wondering how this 230i compares in ride and handling to the 1 series. I find you and your brother's reviews some of the most informative. Thanks.

I love the color, I wish they would have had this in 2017 when I ordered my m240i convertible, the only thing I really don't like is the door panels on the inside, and I would have bought this color on my 2022 x3

Im on the same boat. Debating to get the GR86 and 230. Cant decide. I feel like the GR86 would be more fun to drive since the option of manual. The only downfall is the room is way smaller for the GR86.. Have you had any issues with the 230 ever since you had for a year now??

@@bj10jgo the only issue ive had with it in Seattle being we are sardined with the high population and limited space, is I've been side swiped twice while in park. The purple color makes it hard for people to see the car at night backing out I believe. Unless you live in an area where parking spaces are larger, its a risk getting this car in purple but tons of compliments and looks. Its like being in a lamborgini attention at a fraction of the price.

BMW trying to reach every buyer in the market. 250hp? There are lowly Kia's with more hp- idk I reckon its a Beemer so it has to be reviewed but I'd buy something different. This car is strictly for people on a budget who MUST have a BMW Cool review anyway 😎 Brian.

Yeah I can see that. $40k can go a long way elsewhere for sure. I figured this would drive like the 4 cylinder Supra. But that car is so much more fun to drive then this, even with the same engine

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I loved driving this car. To me it handled well and was very flat and balanced; with no body roll in corners at good speed. I’ve read it has 50/50 weight balancing and it drives really great. It’s much lighter and more nimble with rear wheel drive so feels better than heavier AWD cars like the M240i. It’s not about straight line speed but more about nimble handling. It only weighs 3519 Lbs and feels light yet solid and planted.

I bought this car because m240i almost 12-13K expensive and only 1 second faster than 230i. you just need simple tune and sport suspension. so you will save 12K. dont too much watch commercial. of course if you tune 240i its can be beast but if i put 54K i can go with c8 corvette or porsche 718

Not a bad way to go then. I'm sure a good set of coilovers would really make the suspension good. And this engine can be tuned up quite a bit!

@@BrosFOURRSpeed Yeah I see already golf R and Audi S3 2.0 engine base and they reach without tune 320 HP. so with the tune 230i can easily reach 350 hp. and i think not bad.

I can see that. This is the same platform as the 2.0 Supra and those make good power with tunes. So this would be a fun option!

Yeah this one wasn't anything special as far as option. We just had one of these for a week that had all the M Sport options. Completely different car a way more fun!
