Going to this meet was insane. The winds kept blowing snow on the course, the runners had to put in huge spikes in their racing shoes, and it was a real feel of 9 degrees Fahrenheit. It was a slow course, time wise, and these ladies pushed through it. It was very inspirational to watch!

No doubt, tough conditions, but.....once these runners get running......the cold becomes less of an issue, as it becomes more about the terrain and the wind.......I agree to some degree that cold conditions become an issue, but I think 22 degrees is not low enough for it to matter......I think perhaps once it drops into the low teens or around 10 degrees it could be an issue...

so cool to see this at Loras. when I recognized the campus, I relived all of the theater, studio arts, and music, available to all, thanks to the students and the Loras tradition. it took a stout crew to host this event. great people ...

The location of the meet is decided several months before the meet actually takes place, like the 2023 meet has already been set to take place in Charlottesville, Virginia. They also have to follow a rotating schedule as to where they have it so wether isn't really considered and is always a tossup.

it takes only a couple minutes for the entire field of runners to go by each marker, I don't know why they even allow spectators to cross over the course during a race.

Nice race but a tough X-C course on that snow. You do NOT run for time in this weather but places and team finishes. The first place girl was in a league by herself and she was just incredible. She would make All-American in D ll and D l for sure! I was a Division III and Division ll All-American my sophomore and senior years and competed in D l my senior year as well. Became a PRO and World Class runner for New Balance, Etonic, and Kangaroos National racing teams straight out of College. PR's 2:18:16 Boston Marathon in my debut and 66th in the World out of 7,125 runners and our team took second in the World Team title! My PR's for 29:33.60 10K, 14:01.84 5K and a 3:57.42 1500 meters indoors! Started in a Division lll school and very very PROUD of this fact!

I ran a regional NAIA race when I was in college where the winning time was the only time better than my personal best for that distance. My time was 5 minutes slower. That was a mud race.

Now this is a cross country race! I mean holy cow snow all over bitter cold heck reminds me of one of my races when we where knocking ice/sleet of our arms and legs it was colder than heck! Great race though looked to be a tough race!

These are all talented women. In Divion's I and II you don't get the same educational experience as these schools.

She is fine at this Division. Kassie Parker could have easily went Division 1. She would be up against the likes of Tuohy, Valby and Chmiel and many others. Note: Kassies best 6k time would have placed her just outside the top 15 in the 2022 Division 1 Championship. Still, a great feat to repeat as Champion, while also running a very solid time in these conditions. Well, done!

Besides this is literally what we train for, there’s nothing unhealthy about racing in these conditions as long as you’re prepared and conditioned to do so.

Yes there are other factors, but these factors for the most part have a linear relationship with their size and student body. Things such as amount of resources a school has devoted to sports, how many sports scholarships they give, etc. Generally bigger schools have bigger budgets and thus devote more resources into student sports. Direct from NCAA: Division I schools have the biggest student bodies, the largest athletic budgets, and the most athletic scholarships.
