Thank you Rob!!! Great Choices!!! One category that made a huge difference in my choice of a bike was the level of aftermarket support. I bought 4 2020 Specialized e-bikes and the specialized support has been spectacular. With two years of hard riding only one bike had a minor motor glitch and specialized replaced it with no hesitation. They even replaced a shock issue that wasn’t really their fault so I owe them a few bike sales!!!

I'm of an age now when I've no intention of "upgrading" my 2019 Vitus e-Sommet, but I always enjoy watching Rob's reviews just to keep up with what's happening. It was his review of the Vitus that decided my choice and I love riding it. With a spare battery, it gives me an enormous range, still better than any of the other machines currently on offer...

Enjoyed watching that. Had my Rail 5 625 for a year now and love emtb-ing. I could, but don't want to pay the prices charged for better spec models, though I would love to ride one for a day to see just what 'improvement' feels like, £1000's of £££s 'improvements! I can't imagine any bike could be THAT much better! Having said that I mainly use the Rail 5 on easier trails with some technical steep rocky stuff on the moors that I could never do on my manual bike.(I'm 67) There's always a wishlist of features and improvements: More modes and user adjustable, smoother suspension, built in lights and security, lighter weight, assistance to 20mph, built in gearbox (better weather protection), throttle mode to get up really hard bits where you would experience too many pedal strikes (and to get you back if you had an injury and couldn't pedal). Oh yes and LOWER PRICES! But my emtb is a real joy and gets me further and harder than my manual mtb. A wonderful feeling to be able to get miles from anywhere and know you are not on your own pedaling. That motor helps you out and gets you back however tired you get

I really value your opinion because of all the bikes you've tested. Subjective or not, your picks make sense. I'd like an eMTB that's light like the Orbea, but has full power and maybe drop the battery back down to 500WH. I think more efficient batteries rather than Bigger batteries are the way to go rather than sacrificing power. They next thing I'd like to see is the ability to tune your bike...not just adjust some preconfigured settings, but to actually tune the bike the way you want it, just like you can with Motocross bikes. The limits should be removeable for Emtb's that are in areas that do not have stupid laws, and primarily intended for offroad. Warranties are worthless once you put miles on the bike because of the "wear and tear" clauses. I'd find more value in being able to have full access to the programming. Great Job Rob! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

I have a 2021 Levo comp. Love this bike!! I ride mostly single track in the northeast woods, an intermediate recreational rider. My friend has a Bosch on his trek, I rode his bike and thought the motor was noisy and not as intuitive as my specialized. For me it’s specialized all the way.

Great video mate, I actually agree with most of the awards especially with bikes of the year. Although I'm not a big fan of Specialized design and prices I will have to admit that they somehow push the industry forward with their innovative ideas, still, I think that in 2021 there were not that many evolutive steps like in the past years. I hope 2022 will bring us more enduro directed e-bikes but with improved technology especially in terms of motors and batteries. Cheers to you mate.

I think you are pretty spot on with your choices although I would have given the best looking e-bike to the Santa Cruz Bullet, the Yeti is beautiful but there is something about the Bullet in that bronze colour. As a Trek Rail rider I would have liked to see it win as I think its just awesome but that would be a bias view. I also noticed there are a lot of e-bikes not mentioned, is this because you haven't ridden them? Would like to see a top 5 so we can see what else you have ridden and not mentioned.

Hi and thanks for a good video. I´m a bit surprised that Rocky Mountain Powerplay isn't mentioned in any category here. Riding feel is something totally different from all other brands mentioned. In my opinion the Powerplay have a very natural feel, climbs like a goat and should have been a big contender specially in the "best handling" category. If you haven't tried it you should give it a go, riding feel is amazing and really awards a good active rider and gives you a feel of you being the pilot and not the passenger, cheers.

Just put a deposit down on an Orbea Rise M20. Then saw this and thought that was a good decision. Have a turbo Levo at the moment which is a great bike but feel its just too heavy. I’m hoping the Rise is the best blend of MTB feel with EMTB assistance. Battery does seem to leave you wanting on a big day but the range extender should sort that. Happy Boy!! Bought the Levo as a result of watching Rob in 2019, which worked really well, just looking for something different now. Cheers Rob!

Fantastic Rob, love the videos as always very well put together to give us viewers great knowledge and feedback on brands we haven’t ridden. I’m not surprised Specialized lead this fast paced market, great bikes with their package options + warranty feedback. But it’s great to see Trek, Orbea and Yeti not being behind at all and outshine spesh in some areas. Yeti’s prices on the other hand are a complete joke, sorry but it’s close to the price of a new car! I can’t wait to see their end of year sales on these bikes and how many they have sold.

Would be nice to get an actual value entry level option this year maybe? :) It's lovely to hear about all of these crazy good bikes, but I think in the 2-2.5k range really good beginner stuff is floating around and would be good to have it represented as well, no?
@mmaaddict78
@mmaaddict78 Жыл бұрын
Would be tough because at that price range you're looking at value non-e mountain bikes. It's really hard to drop under 5k and find a good electric mountain bike. Price out some of the components alone like forks, brakes and shocks and you'll see that the price climbs quickly. There are some decent hardtail e-mountain bikes, but that's a whole other class and the good ones are more like 3k.

Only watching this now, in May 2022 and some bits of the discussion are already obsolete given the pace of the emtb market, but this was really helpful in my decision making process for a 1st ebike. I've been looking at all bikes available in the UK in the £4.5-£5.5k range and i'm still on the fence about going super-light or full fat. I agree the Rise looks like the only option at the moment especially as it has a bigger battery alloy version now (since this video). My main issue with the Rise is the spec i'd want is bang at the top of my budget at £5.5k. Other, full-fat options may give better value for less money. ....hmm, still need to think on it.

Despite Rob's misgivings about the Fantic XF1.6 I bought the newer XMF1.6 a few months ago. No actual regrets as I'm 96kg (and 62 years old now!) so need the power and battery size and it came with Lyrik forks but the very latest crop of bikes makes me question my choice, particularly the Orbea Rise Hydro as I find myself riding above the motor speed limit much of the time so I'm just pushing a very heavy (25kg) bike! Keeps me fit I suppose.

Rob, good job ! Fully acceptable decision ! Next time don't miss the Simplon Rapcon bike - is very very good, mean better than TurboLevo, but the industry leader is only the Specialized , agree!

Bosch is so good on the trails. It balances power and control really well, loads of punch when you need it even at super low cadence.

The £12,000 S-Works Turbo Levo (I did not miss the S-Works comment in your audio) wins? I know the Yeti's not far behind, or maybe even in front, on cost, but seriously... that's like comparing all the automotive EV's from mainstream manufacturers with the Rimac Nevera... which happens to retail at €1.3m. Toys, pram, thrown! Great roundup though. And thanks for all the vids throughout 2021.

I bought a Trek Rail and haven't been disappointed. I wanted to love the EP8 because it opens up so many bike options especially here in the US but I think that thing should be redesigned.

@@JeffManaAnytime The EP8 makes a rattling noise when rolling over obstacles. You can hear the rattling in one of Rob's videos in which he tests different bikes. Ive heard dozens of different accounts of this now. Sadly the frame of your individual bike can even amplify that rattling, depending on wether its carbon or alloy. In some bikes it can get really annoyingly loud, in others it seems to be much less noticable, but the bottom line is that they all do it. Its not a manufacturing fault, according to Shimano the rattling is due to design, but thats of course quite a problem for everyone who hates such noises coming from any of his bike components.

@@JeffManaAnytime its underpowered, It would be one thing if you got longer battery life because of it but you actually get less, poor design.

Rob Unrelated question but a challenge. If two riders climbed the same hill, one on full power and the 2nd on the lowest setting. Could the first rider get to the top of a hill and charge. Would they be able to get the battery charged up higher than the remaining level on the 2nd bike. Always wonder when doing longer climbs would it be better to go on turbo and then charge at the top of thr hill.

As a Specialized rider, I've been on one since the late 80's, I wanted a Specialized ebike, I test rode the Turbo Levo in 2018 and fell in love with it. I can throw my leg over any Sepcialized bike and absolutely rip trail. Then the component shortages happened, and their prices went through the roof. It had me looking at other brands and I chose the 2021 Rocky Mountain Altitude in the fall of last year... Their Dyname 3.0 motor with 108 nm of torque is super fun and I can go almost everywhere in ECO which allows me to ride close to 50 miles with 4500 feet of climbing without flattening the battery. I live ant 9800 feet and have taken it up to 13,300 feet in a single ride on a fire road, single track is still mostly illegal here.. I am thinking of buying another one in a few years! Rocky flies under a lot of radars but has a really good Geo!

I agree with your pick of the best all around motor . i have the older gen 3 which i love . it has a smooth natural feel and distinct assist levels . I also have a nox with the sachs rs motor . This is my favorite motor for hill climbing . it has four assist levels with the eco mode being hardly noticeable . the second assist level is the one i use for about 70% of all riding and the third for steep hills . the forth level is ,well ridiculous . i rarely use it as the third level makes the bosch turbo mode seem like the brakes are on . so for all around do it all , i think the bosch wins easily . For raw power the sachs destroys the bosch .
