Thank you very much for the yearly review! For example, I found normal double-sided to be effective, so it was interesting to learn that you could purchase large sheets to deter scratching. I will also keep the other recommendations in mind! Strictly speaking, I was not sure what to think about the saliva test for kidney disease. So, I tried to look into it more, and I found an article called *"A saliva urea test strip for use in feline and canine patients: a pilot study."* This is also linked on the Kidney Chek website on the FAQ page. If I understand correctly, then I think the description in that article saying _“We recommend that the test be used as an exclusion test”_ means that it is mostly meant for healthy cats with negative results. For example, if you have worrisome symptoms and a negative result, then you are still supposed to take your cat into the vet (for what may be a false negative). I think you also still need testing/evaluation from your vet for a positive result (which might be a false positive). I am not sure if you have personal experiences that influenced your selection of that product. Otherwise, I hope the details in that open-access article are helpful for vets when following up on a result! Thank you again - Happy New Year to All About Cats and all of the other viewers!

I love the Amazing Cats Slider puzzle. I give Teddy treats in it every night (he does not sleep with me), and every morning I find it in a different place, sometimes in a different room!

I have the first level Amazing Cat puzzle box and goodness our boy has really torn at it. My one note to people considering these toys is to use slightly larger treats, certain treat shapes/sizes tend to get 'stuck' and they aren't always easy to dislodge when they end up wedged under cardboard flaps and can lead to frustrated cats who can't get to their treats. We're probably upgrading to the Slider at some point to see how he does with it.

Thank you so much for acknowledging kidney disease in cats. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. I have my baby and she is my first pet. I'm 31yo and I adopted her when she was 9 weeks old(she's now 2) and she is my entire universe. If I can pay to have her live till I die, I'll pay for it so long she has the best health and quality of life. I just learned about kidney diseases in cats and how common they are. The kidney check is just awesome. I already have a cat with CKD and another that probably has it too. I have used the weruva wx and I just LOVE that they've done this. My cats aren't nuts about it unfortunately. Too much fish content except for the 1 that is just chicken. I usually have to add some crushed treats or fortiflora for them to eat it. I'm really hoping they come out with more protein options as fish really isn't all that great for cats nor do any of my cats love it...outside of the once a week salmon and sardines

We're in the same position (Forest recently got back results that showed signs of CKD), and we've been using the Weruva Wx diet, too. It's hit or miss-Forest likes the shredded recipes more than the patés, and it goes down a lot more easily with Fortiflora on top (though she licks the Fortiflora off the top and doesn't always finish the bowl). Though she is a fish fan, so that helps. Some more protein options would definitely be nice.

Thank you Mallory for all your recommendations this past year. We got a Burmese kitten in August and you have been our go to source for food , toys, etc. for our new kitten. We have a Litter Robot 4 and she took to it like a duck to water, and thankfully we have had very few problems with it. We also recently switched her diet to Smalls cat food and have noticed a total reduction of halitosis in her, as well as her coat seems much glossier and softer. Overall I feel like she is healthier on this diet as opposed to the combo canned and kibble we were feeding her before. We also have the Bengal halter for her and she's in process of getting used to it. Thanks again, and please keep up the good work! We appreciate it so much!

If you really wanted to start right with your cats, you should have informed yourself about the big problems with this breed and didn't get them! They suffer from a gene mutation that affects bones and cartilage in their body. That's why their ears are folded, but eventually it will affect the whole body and they can be crippled by a young age! In my country it's illegal to even buy or breed these cats! We should stop the suffering and pain from these poor little creatures 😿

@@bookworm8624 you’re assuming I didn’t do my research. Every animal regardless of their breed has genetic issues. German Shepard’s and large breeds have hip issues and knee issues, should we then ban them too?. Where does this list end.

@Ann You're right there is a very long list with breeds that suffer, because humans breeding them to their liking and in a way that will cause them a lot of pain and health issues. So I think we should not support those breeders and be responsible when we choose a new family member. This will never end if people buy those breeds and breeders don't have to follow strict rules.

Thanks for the recommendations. I immediately purchased the smelt treats (slightly less expensive on Amazon) and the Amazing Treat Maze. Looks like my kitties will be having a belated Christmas. One of my cats has a special fondness for a simple woolen spring toy. They look like flat pipe-cleaners that have been wound into a spring. The spring-iness of the one remaining one is long gone. It is basically a limp piece of fabric, and still my one cat carries it around. Your video reminded me to find some replacements. Amazon didn't have them, but I found them at PetSmart. They are called Whisker City® Spring Toys Cat Toys - 4 Pack. My cats and I thank you for another informative video.

I rescued my cat when he was already 15 yrs old. He was used to going outside with his previous owner, and when I adopted him, I had a secure outdoor area he couldn't escape from. Now I moved to a 7 th story apt and he doesn't have outdoor access except a small balcony which he's not impressed with. I want to be able to take him for walks but he has so far refused letting me put a harness on him, I can't even get a collar on him! He's so stubborn. I'm just wondering if I should give it up or keep trying, I just don't want to keep wasting money on harnesses, or have to keep returning them (I've gone through 4 so far). Any tips would be appreciated.

Awesome content. Some of these were pricey, but a few seem well worth the cost. I have 2 litter robot 3s. I don't plan on getting the updated version. $700 is just too expensive. I am hoping to add a 3rd robot 3 soon. I do find them on Facebook marketplace on occasion and the wonderful thing is that it's so easy to replace every single part of the robot. They have a couple refurbished ones in stock right now for $410. I just keep thinking how much cat food that could buy and I'm trying to stock up a lot of food as backup because the economy is so bad and they're predicting a shortage of canned foods across the board.

I really wish the sleepypod harness could have worked out for me. It’s clearly well made, however even the small was too large for my cat (fully grown mind you). Difficult to return as well. I’ve tried so many harnesses and don’t love any of them :( wondering if you could do an updated comparison review and especially talk about comfort and security? For example Travel Cat just released an H-style harness that’s really easy to put on and take off. I’m wary about the H-style putting strain on my cat’s neck but it’s Travel Cat so I’m inclined to trust they know what they’re doing.

For the time being, no-we've had some issues with the company asking us not to do a review of their product. I had many problems with the product being impossible to carry, falling apart easily, and not sifting out all clumps. However, we've decided to respect their suspicion that we may be biased against them and not publish a review sharing these problems.

Bangle harness, you didn't have it on right. It's my ragdolls harness and I own both sizes. We put it on him over 10 times a day. It is the best one we've owned from when he was a kitten. I wouldn't purchase any other again.

LR4 was absolutely amazing UNTIL it stopped one day. Mid cycle. And customer support took a week to reply to my “ticket” just to tell me to try “turning it off and turning it back on” 🤦🏻‍♀️ luckily they let me go ahead and return it.

I was going to buy the Magic Towel until I read the ingredients and saw that it has lavender in it, which is toxic to cats. How could it be safe for cats with the inclusion of lavender?

Hi Lara, here's what the company founder told me: "When we created the formula, our research showed that diluted lavender oils were safe for cats. We added a very insignificant amount of lavender oil in the formula which also vaporizes during the manufacturing process when the towel is heated during high temperatures. We believe most of the lavender oils have evaporated, and the towel does not have a very lavender-like scent."

Thanks, I appreciate you reaching out to them. I wonder what would be the point in including it, if most of it vaporizes/evaporates during production? I still don't think I'd be comfortable with it, especially since it's lavender oil (when I read the ingredients, it just says lavender, not lavender oil). Also gotta say that I'm not crazy about them stating on their website that "lavender oil is non-toxic to cats and dogs," as that's just not true. 😕 Regardless, it's not worth the risk to me; my cat is already prone to GI upset. I wish they had a formulation without it! Oh well.

Love the channel. However, many of the suggestions are very pricey. I think it would be great to see more value options. Also, many cat owners (the vast majority as I understand it) feed dry kibble. Many channels have stated kibble is a big no no, and the rationale is pretty sound, but I don't think there is much science behind the notion. So many people have cats in their late teens who eat kibble and so many vets say kibble is fine, it would be interesting to see the issue discussed in detail with an animal nutritionist.
