10k mile oil change intervals on an engine that's both turbocharged and has GDI simply isn't the best idea in the long run, I've seen inside some of those engines with higher mileage and even though the oil itself can be analyzed and show to have life in it, I've seen buildup around the piston rings after continuous 10k mile intervals. Another thing to keep in mind is if your using any vehicle for towing that typically will fall under the "severe service schedule" which normally shows a lower mileage interval in the maintenance manual, typically 5k miles under "severe", one other thing to mention is this engine is running on "synthetic blend" oil, which is the (minimum requirement) to maintain the warranty but a full synthetic oil with "SN-Plus" stamp on back that meets and exceeds the Ford specification would be more ideal of 10k miles is your goal.

XLT FX4 owner, I always change it at 5000 miles... 10K is too much IMO

To each there own, but I run full synthetic and do an oil change every 5000 miles. Back when I ran regular oil, I did it every 3000 miles. I have 3 vehicles. One of them is a 97 gmc sierra with a 5.7 engine with over 340000 miles, and we recently had to replace the intake gaskets and the oil pan gasket. While we were in the engine, it looked pristine. I was actually shocked! It still runs like a new truck. No ticks or knocks whatsoever. I'm aware of all the lab reports saying you can go longer, but seriously, why take the chance. Engines are expensive...

Yaaay! Was looking forward to this. Great info and useful here, nice to see that the maverick's oil is so normal after maxing out the tow rating on that epic west coast trip.

On the 2.0 turbo I go every 5,000 miles. I own the truck and plan to keep it for a long time. The Ford mechanics both told me every 5000 miles I'll have no issues long term.

Just a tip for people who want to collect their own oil sample, don't collect the first cup/0.5L, because those are always the dirtiest, wait a little and collect your sample to have more accurate result. I used to be an oil analysis, so I sort of know what I am talking about.

I worked years ago as a lubrication engineer for Conoco. Now I use only Valvoline, no synthetic oils. We drive our vehicles to at least 300.000 miles. Oil changes every 2500 miles. So far, we are driving cars that have never had their engines worked on. It's Valvoline, or nothing !

I was waiting for a video like this one. I had an hybrid 2023 maverick and I did my first oil change at 13.000 mi (when the app told me to ) . So good so far !

I wouldn't t be concerned either since the Hybrid uses full synthetic and the gas engine doesn't run all the time. I would totally be concerned going 10k in an Ecoboost because Ford only uses synthetic blend in those. Clean oil is the lifeblood of the turbo and heat and dirt are its worst enemies. P.S. I liked the video, just a natural born skeptic I guess.

Pretty much guaranteeing that engine will be toast right outside of warranty.

congratulations my friend you saved $35.00 for that pesky oil change. Just make sure to sell that truck to a friend at 59,999 miles so the engine blows on him.

Hybrid owner, thanks for doing the oil analysis. Interesting results, did an oil change on my GR Corolla at a 1K miles. Only have around 450 miles on the Maverick and plan on doing an early change on it too. Cheap insurance

Blow by fuel into the oil will cause the viscosity to be lowered.

You did a nice job, but. I'd never follow the manufacturer's oil, or any fluid change interval, they get incentives from the government to specify high oil change mileage. The CAFE gas mileage standards are insane, and oil change intervals are incorporated. Secondly, the intervals are designed to get the engine (or transmission)to the end of the warranty, they are happy to sell you a new car then/ I'm inclined to listen to "The Motor Oil Geek" who changed his new car at 500, 5000, and then 10,000 miles. A direct injected turbo engine should be changed every 4000, or less, IMO.

With it being a turbocharged engine you shouldn't go 10,000 mi in between

Dude, this engine has been used in dozens of cars since 2015. Being in a Maverick did not change anything. The answer is, change at 5k. At least you did not call the panel on the bottom a skid plate.

Nice video! Just a couple of free suggestions. Before pulling the plug snd filter, I like to remove the oil fill cap and pull up the dipstick. I’ve heard this gives a smoother and more complete drain. Also, just a pet peeve, but I’ve never understood using the dirty oil to lube the new filter gasket. Why not do that with fresh oil?
@mechanicbuilt
@mechanicbuilt 2 ай бұрын
Yes ive done the dipstick method and cap method i should apply it to my next oil change video . Out of the hundreds of oil changes using old oil has been standard in MOST cases. im assuming you dont want to contaminate your new oil, or accidently spill out more then what you want. When i used oil barrels with fill nozzles i use to pour a smidge in a cap and use fresh oil, you only need to apply a film of oil, so that little cap gets wasted. Though yes! If you can you can use new oil though a film of used good oil never hurts either 😅

Plenty of videos showing ford with turbos at 7K oil changed intervals clog the little screen on the oil feed line to the turbo. Destroying the turbo, Have fun replacing the turbo at about 65K miles. But hey you save pennies not changing the oil an extra few times. .

For 10K is real black. My hybrid engine at 11K was still clear and can still read the dip stick. In fact the oil coming out was cleaner than the I was putting in. But I do use ethanol free gas

If you don't have a funnel you can cut the bottom off of an empty oil bottle with a box cutter or knife. Now you have a funnel.

I changed my oil at 1000 miles and to my surprise the oil filter was as heavy as a brick. Just a thought of caution. Also I manually tightened splash guard cover and two screws were already stripped. Cheap retainers

Follow the owner manual. New synthetic oil has enough additives to last 10,000miles or even more depends on the engine design.
