Ford gives the 2022 Maverick a standard hybrid powertrain, and that equals great fuel economy in all sorts of driving. Although we have to think the Atkinson cycle engine helps more for highway fuel economy.

You claimed that the Maverick has a CVT transmission "that has some downsides" (04:09). Wrong. The Maverick has an eCVT transmission that employs planetary gears and bears NO mechanical resemblance to a CVT transmission with belts. Moreover, eCVT transmissions have proven themselves to be very reliable in real world use (and smooth, as your noted while driving the Maverick Hybrid), unlike CVTs that have a bad reputation that you alluded to in your video. I suggest you do your research and get the facts right on the vehicles you review.

We have put just under a 1000 miles on our Hybrid XLT. The noise level inside is less than my 2020 Hyundai Tucson Sport. It is very comfortable to ride in and fun to drive. The speakers are not very good at volume greater than 6 or 7 but when we play music through the radio using our Sirius/XM APP, it sounds great at even higher volume. Our truck is used mostly around town as my husbands job is less than 3 miles away....but, we have taken 2 trips. One was about 400 miles round trip and the other was about 300 miles. Around town running mostly battery, we average between 38 and 50 MPG.( depends on traffic, stopping and starting, etc..) On the trips, we averaged 37 to 38 MPG running almost completely on gas. I am sure there is no other truck out there that can come close. We are thoroughly enjoying our truck and absolutely enjoying less trips to the gas station. By the way, the Maverick replaced a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport that got about 13 MPG. Big difference for sure.

I drove 202 miles up to Wisconsin the other day in my XL hybrid. Going between regular and sport mode and averaged 45.9 mpg in mine. I think the main drawback you guys had getting only 32mpg is the fact you had it in eco mode which really only benefits low speed driving as it tries to use more battery only mode. But for highway all it’s doing is sending less power to the wheels for the amount of fuel that your using. Eco mode is designed for short distance stop and go destinations. And btw I was shocked when I drove those 202 miles and my gas tank was just over a quarter tank gone xD

This is in all Ford makes and models with drive modes. My little brothers 2.7Eco in his 2020 F150 gets about 3 mpg better in sport mode than in ECO mode when he is on the highway for long drives. This is him going from San Antonio TX to Lubbock TX straight, we were both like WTF this make no since. Then I had him use eco mode only when he was driving short trips around SA for work and what not and it gave about 1 mpg over is Sport mode long driving. Right now he gets about 27mpg at 75mph in sport mode on long trips and 28mpg in eco just doing short trips around SA. It's crazy.

My 83 Ranger diesel would average 30mpg when I was driving it to work 45 miles one way. I got as high as 36 on a trip once and that included going to the top of Pikes Peak. Eco hwy mpg is similar to hybrid even with way more power. You can still order eco now, find a dealer that orders at msrp they are out there. For dirt roads to the campsite, driving in snow, or 4k towing, awd is worth every penny. You also get upgraded independent rear suspension. My Mav eco awd 360 lux 4k was $30,710 including shipping. That's 1/2 the cost of a full size. Buying a base hybrid with a big markup to 30k or more off the lot makes no sense because that will buy a lot of gas. And if you wait for a 2023 hybrid, msrp likely to go up again since inflation was announced at 7% last month. Ford has to pass increased costs to consumers or they won't survive.

Pay less at the pump but have to pay again sooner? Or pay slightly more but it’ll last for a while longer, this is without mentioning that the ecoboost is gonna have wayy more aftermarket support than the hybrid, so you’re gonna be able to get more power, more torque, AND more mpg with the right tune and parts

Interesting take, and I'm sure others feel that way also. I needed the 2.0T in order to get 4k tow, but admittedly the hybrid will likely be more reliable in the long run. Simpler, less stressed motor and transmission combo. But you're right about the power and mods.

ALTHOUGH YOU DID A GOOD JOB IN THIS "COMPARO" TEST, AND I THOUGH THE PICTURE QUALITY WAS REAL SHARP AND CLEAR, I'M SORRY, BUT YOU ACTIVATED ONE OF MY "PET PEEVES" I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE HAVE "JUNK" BLOCKING THE VIEW ON THEIR WINDSHIELDS!! ESPECIALLY THE LAZY GUYS THAT LEAVE THEIR HANDICAPPED SIGNS HANGING ON THEIR MIRRORS, EVEN THOUGH THEY ALL HAVE PRINTING IN BIG LETTERS : CAUTION!! REMOVE BEFORE DRIVING!! I KNOW YOU THINK YOU CAN SEE AROUND THE CAMERAS OKAY, BUT, SOMETIMES WHEN YOUR DRIVING ON CITY STREETS, AND YOU MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON RED, SOME IDIOT IS ALWAYS GOING TO STEP OUT FROM BEHIND THE LIGHT POLE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, AND YOU WON'T SEE HIM IN TIME!! OTHER THAN THAT, GOOD VIDEO!! CHAS ORVIS, PLAINVILLE, CT.

Gosh it's tiresome to hear people say it's good for the price point. My question is if it were 40K - the average cost of a Good car- would you still say this is a Good vehicle? If the answer is yes. Then nevermind saying it's good for the price point. Just say this is a great vehicle. Good mileage and ride. Smooth acceleration ect.

@ThePowerOfOneThePowerOfTwo 2 жыл бұрын
But the price point is a huge part of the appeal. I'm sure there's much better options out there for 40k. But for what you can get sub 30k, it's a good buy. From what I hear everything is acceptable, not exceptional. That's about what is expected for a pickup at that price

It amazes me how people worry about fuel mileage when I never really seen a hybrid get poor fuel mileage. Most 4 cylinders get 25 miles to the gallon so anything over that is a bonus.. Personally, I don't purchase a vehicle based on fuel mileage as I purchase a vehicle based on it's capabilities. That's just me as I find fuel mileage irrelevant on modern vehicles. That's just my two cents on the issue.

Thank you I completely agree. Unless - you drive 50K a year, then the gas really does add up but not for most people putting 15K a year on. For me the Hybrid maverick is the right vehicle because I love that eCVT and the smooth acceleration. I also don't like the sound of the EB - high pressure fuel injectors and all the extra stuff to break. But NOT necessarily worried or stoked about the fuel economy

@@mikesawyer1336 The most efficient time a hybrid is useful is excessive stop and go traffic. Most other times a hybrid is less efficient than a non-hybrid at open highway speeds. If most of your driving is under 35 miles an hour then the hybrid is perfect for you. You live out in the country where you only have two stop lights then a hybrid is practically pointless. They are exceptions though.

Eco mpg hwy not much different than hybrid. If this is a road trip vehicle for camping and skiing, you are better off with way more power and capability. And you can still order the eco now before the price goes up again. Ford can only build about 70,000 Mavs per year so with the pent up hybrid demand, my bet is getting an order in before Ford closes out 2023 MY will be difficult or impossible. You can be ahead of that crowd by ordering an eco now.

33mpg is literally what the window sticker says it will get. In what way is that disappointing? And yeah, you’re getting 28-30 in your FX4 because that’s what it’s rated at. If you do more city driving, go hybrid. If you do mostly highway driving, either engine is fine.
@JamesD-HB
@JamesD-HB 2 жыл бұрын
@@HEMi1995 Yes the hybrid saves no mpg on the open road because the gas engine is doing the work. If the truck will be mostly a road trip vehicle, get the eco with AWD and 4k tow for better suspension, more passing power and overall capability, like handling wet dirt roads to the trail or not have to stop and chain up on ski trips.

@@paladin3116 hmm also not true... Let's test that theory...Explain how hybrids are pointless on highways in the mountains smart guy? Hybrids are awesome on the steep grades due to the regenetive braking. With ICE all the kinetic energy is lost as heat. Plus, altitude does not affect the electric performance. I live at high altitude and hybrids/electric cars are everywhere.

Agree with Padadin. This was a terrible test of a hybrid's fuel economy as compared to the eco-boost drivetrain. Highway driving has the least regenerative braking per mile travelled.

You clearly don’t know what you’re taking about. It gets 42MPG CITY and 33MPG HIGHWAY. Guess what this video was demonstrating… highway 🤯 hybrids are always more efficient in the city because the battery assists with stop & go traffic, increasing MPG. The battery does basically nothing on the highway, so more gas is used. Use your head, Pedro.

When the cab is bigger than the bed, and iit runs on electric motors and batteries, it stops being a pickup truck and becomes a golf cart. That thing is a joke. I'd take a 1990 Ranger with a good V6 over that thing every day of the week. Then again, I actually use trucks for work, not commuting to work and the grocery store. LOL.
