It’s only existed for a handful of years, but Samsung’s Frame TV has captivated millions. The 2022 Samsung Frame TV is just the third version of this popular chameleon of a television, and it boasts some improvements and new features.
I recently purchased the 65-inch 2022 Samsung Frame TV for my home and in this review I’ll tell you what it’s like to own, how it works, what it can do, and how this new version compares to the previous one, and if I can recommend it for you.
What’s new on the 2022 Samsung Frame TV?
The 2022 version of the Samsung Frame TV isn’t a revolutionary redesign and it doesn't innovate a lot over the 2021 version, but the changes Samsung has made do go a long way towards improving it. The major innovation is the addition of even more glare resistant glass, as well as an optional rotating wall mount.
I have to admit, I felt a bit extravagant upgrading from my 2021 The Frame, when on the surface it seems that the only major difference is a piece of coated glass, but I can attest that this new anti-glare, low-reflection panel technology featuring an embossed Matte Display makes a shocking amount of difference in how the TV blends in as art in the home.
What is Samsung The Frame TV?
To take a step back and explain what the Frame TV is and why you might be looking at it, it’s a high quality 4K TV that displays realistic gallery-level artwork (Art Mode) on the screen when the TV isn't active. Far from looking like a screensaver or placeholder, the combination of high resolution art, with the no-glare glass and a light sensor which helps the TV adapt to your room and the time of day means it is better than a CIA agent at hiding in plain sight.
While there is a good amount of free artwork you can display on The Frame, and you can add your own, it’s almost essential to sign up for the Samsung Art Store to open up a wealth of art options for your space.
Art Store costs about $70CAD/year. You can choose to display one piece of art at a time, or have it rotate through a gallery’s worth of your personal favourites.
The 2021 Samsung The Frame also had a feature called Ambient Mode where you could access moving imagery, weather info and some more interactive elements for your screen. The feature does still exist on the 2022 Frame TV, but it’s now integrated as part of Art Mode, instead of being a separate feature. More on that coming up.
Is Samsung Frame TV really better at glare? How much of a difference for new anti-glare coating make?
In my previous testing with both the original Frame, launched in 2017, and in the 2021 version, the screen is definitely a soft matte design, but this new version takes the small amount of glare those older versions did allow and makes it vanish completely. I’d say that the earlier versions blocked about 80-90% of any glare, then this new 2022 Samsung The Frame minimizes 95% of it.
Samsung says the coated glass also avoids fingerprints and smudges better than before, and I think that’s also accurate.
What’s in the box?
The 2022 Samsung Frame TV operates a bit differently. In the box, aside from the TV you get a remote control, wall mount, and the Samsung One Connect box and cable.
The One Connect Box links to the TV with a tiny 3-4mm cable and it’s long, meaning you can run it into cabinet (it doesn’t need line of sight) or around the corner from the TV. I opted to run conduit in the wall and hid the cable out of sight.
The One Connect box is the place where you’ll plug in your cable box, streaming or gaming devices and a sound bar. The box is meant to hide out of sight so you don’t end up with dangling dongles cluttering up your decor.
One last item… I added a Sonos Bean 2nd gen sound bar to my set up for improved audio, since the built-in speaker, while it’s okay, it’s amazing. You can check out me review of the Beam 2nd Gen here on the channel.
Using 2022 Samsung Frame TV: Art Mode
Art Mode is what distinguishes this TV from all other televisions-even those marketing a ‘Gallery Mode’. When The Frame is not displaying video, you can enjoy it in Art Mode where you get super high quality, high resolution art prints or photography.

I hate having a TV I barely use dominating my lounge room and so haven't had one and have happily just been using my laptop for netflix/movies for a few years. I'm now very tempted to give one of these a go with the no glare screen. My room is very bright and wherever I put it would have to be near a window so I really appreciate the brightness/reflection details and footage from different angles. Thank you! 📺✨

Great, informative video. Expecting delivery of my 55" Frame tomorrow. Looks like I have days or weeks of "dialing in" the preferred settings. Best thing for a TV since the "click remote" was invented many, many years ago.

Hi great review I have recently bought the TV which is great. a question I have is.. So I uploaded photos onto a USB stick which the TV detects in full size 16 x 9 as a slideshow but then when I put it in art mode The photos come with a mat around them. Is there a way to remove the mat so the photos are full size to fit the frame?

Looking at this product for our new home. Wondering what other TVs are "competitors" to this one. I have an LG OLED which has a great picture so a bit worried about how this TV would compare with an OLED when actually watching TV. Thoughts?

Installed our 43" in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago. We had access behind the tv to an open area to hide the huge one connect box. We also got the teak frame. The features of the TV are great! We love the ability to turn the TV into art when not in use. The tv is as close to the wall as possible and really sells the art hanging look. The matte finish also works well. Navigating the smart menu, and changing inputs is a little clunky for my liking. My main gripe is picture quality. We got our 43" on Black Friday for $200 off at $799.99. The picture is similar to our $350 bedroom TV. Anything more than 5 degrees off center viewing and the color and black levels diminish quickly. It also doesn't help that you can see our main OLED TV and the difference in picture quality is huge. I would have purchased a similar sized OLED for the same price, but the aesthetics of the matte screen, frame, and picture mode won out as it is not a main viewing TV.

Cons: Why after 5 updates to this TV model over the years, can it still not be configured to pull Art Mode images from a folder on a local network (WiFi) server and rotate them on a schedule? When you do view photos via DLNA (i.e. manually advanced slideshow) the TV outputs them in 1024 x 768 or so ... on a UHD screen ... *WHY?*

Thanks for your review. I checked out a few others but yours was definitely the one the pushed me to go for it. I got the 55 inch model and I was expecting to be wowed by the art mode (It is phenomenal don't get me wrong ). I was however more impressed with the brightness, the picture quality as well as the matt finish which handles light reflections like a champ. Alot of reviews focused on the non OLED panel and made it seem like a big sacrifice but the screen is good enough to hold its own. I still do feel the Samsung photo bezels are still over prized.

Unfortunately, unless you use an in-wall, fire-rated type of conduit, most areas prohibit cables like the Samsung "invisible" variation that is bundled with the Frame from running inside of walls. This is because the cable carries power to the display. Samsung did make a cable that was rated for in-wall use but it's expensive, bulky and virtually impossible to find. There are also conflicting reports as to whether the cable works with the 2022 models. I asked Samsung and they they maintain that the solution is not officially supported. So... if you want to mount the Frame on a wall and hide the cable, you have a few options: 1. install a fire-rated conduit and use it with the standard cable; 2. suppress your OCD and leave the cable dangling below the TV or concealed behind a surface-mounted conduit, shelf etc.; 3. add a power outlet behind the TV and mount a backbox in the wall to hold the One Connect box. Option #1 is tough to source out because it's more common for commercial applications. Option #2 isn't elegant but it just takes a bit of creativity. And for most people, option #3 means hiring an electrician, buying a backbox and hacking up the wall behind the TV. In the end, Samsung has avoided the whole issue by simply saying that the invisible cable isn't very noticeable. For a premium lifestyle technology that is based around making the technology less obvious, not having a real solution to hide the cable is a major shortcoming.

I'm really torn. I love my frame 49 and the one connect box. I can't decide between a better picture via mini led in a bright room or the matte coating of the frame (a big jump from my old version). There are some great deals on the 75 and 85 this month as well here in the UK. Like you I love it just stays out the way and doesn't dominate the room like a none frame TV. Also no risk of burn in Vs OLED for a family TV.

I think the TV quality is great. I do have a pricier and fancier television myself in my media room, so this is definitely a supplemental screen. Even so I don’t have any concerns with watching programming, particularly at night or in low light situation. particularly the 2022 model with the anti-glare glass is definitely worth it. Do yourself a favour and just buy it already; it’s on a bit of a sale right now and it’ll arrive before Christmas: amzn.to/3UNbA0L

Hi Erin I have been looking forward to your review of this TV as I find your reviews very useful. I think you do a great job of straddling the line between giving your take as a regular user whilst also being an informative reviewer and knowing all the facts. I have a question: have you used some of the higher end OLED TVs from this year? For example the Samsung QD OLED or Sony Bravia's A95K? Reason I ask is because I know The Frame is a QLED and I was just wondering how the picture stacks up against them.

Thank you so much for the beautiful compliment, Gareth. To answer your question, yes, I have tried some of the new OLED TVs, and they can be amazing. If you don't need the 'hide in plain sight' aspects of the Frame, and instead want a superior video screen, OLED is the way to go, and we do have an OLED in our media room. I love the Frame because the video is still great, but I don't have to look at the blank screen. Are you trying to decide?

Be careful listening to this review about objective video results. This is a great TV if you want a TV that doesn't look like a TV, but for information about its video qualities refer to Rtings instead. You're not paying for a quality TV set here, you're paying for the One Connect box, the ability to hang it flat and put a bezel on it, etc. It's middle-of-the-road as far as TV's go.
