I will just get the mirror without the defroster, too much to tear apart IMO.

The defroster plugs in to a plug behind the mirror... all this wiring was for the turn-signal function.

its only for the turn signal, not the defroster.

As of now we don't know of any way to add mirror defrosters on a base.

Where is the grey connector located is it wrap with the black tape

Not sure why they never answered, but I finally got brave and pulled the tape... Yes, that is where the connector is. If you have access to the wiring diagrams, it's noted as B181. It's a junction connector, so there are no wires coming off the other end. Cautionary note: be careful removing the tape... I foolishly used scissors and snipped a 24AWG wire connected to B175, which partly goes to the ECU. A serious struggle to repair in that tight space.
