On the other hand the GR86 sounds like such a special car, and since it'll likely be my last ICE car that I'll keep for an insanely long time itd be nice to have something little more special than a Civic. About to step into a GR86 tomorrow, having just sold my heavily modified '08 335i. I too, am learning to be humble. Civic SIs used to be pylons on the highway, now I'll have to ask nicely just to pass one. Many years later, history repeats itself again.. Although still expensive for their class, Honda and Toyota are offering the cheapest most fun vehicles in their segments.

@timothycoyne58742 ай бұрын
I just bought a new refreshed 2025 Civic Si a couple weeks ago. That was after I heavily considered buying a new GR86 over the summer, and which I test drove a few times. I ended up with the Si because it was the better choice for a daily driver for me. Cheaper to buy (compared to the GR86 Premium, which is what I would have bought), cheaper to run due to much better fuel economy (which is a big difference when you're driving 20k+ miles per year like me), and far more practical being a sedan with a usable rear seat and a good sized trunk. It helps that Honda added heated seats, the fully digital gauge cluster and shift lights, and made improvements to the chassis and ride quality. And despite not being fast, it's quick enough for me. The Si has a better, more forgiving ride, and doesn't feel as small nor as dark inside as the GR86, due to the Honda having more and larger windows and a moonroof. Body roll is minimal, as is understeer. I also went with the Si because I like using my car for trips with my wife, as opposed to taking her SUV, which I hate driving. Two other reasons, though they weren't huge factors, were the factory stereo and FWD vs. RWD. Say what you will about Bose speakers, but they sound immensely better than the factory system in the GR86. The GR86 has a very noisy cabin, and the factory speakers are not going to overcome that and still sound good. I didn't want to buy the Toyota and immediately have to upgrade its speakers. I would rather have a RWD car (or AWD but rear-wheel biased) than a FWD car. But with the Toyota I'd have had to buy a set of winter wheels and tires, and swap them for the OEMs a couple times annually, which is what I did with my ND1 Miata for 4 years. Doable, of course, but it's nice not to have to do that. Nothing replicates the feeling of RWD, but the Si's suspension does a nice job for a FWD car in my opinion. All that being said, the GR86 is still a great sports car for a daily driver. Its NA boxer engine is a treat and it looks amazing. I'm sure I'd have been happy with it had I bought one. The Si was just the better choice for me.
