2022 HOW FILIPINO FAMILIES CELEBRATE ALL SOULS DAY - PAYING RESPECT TO THEIR DEPARTED LOVED ONES
Every November 2nd, people in most parts of the world celebrate All Souls’ Day. It is the day when we remember our loved ones who have passed away. How do Filipinos honor the dead?
Most Filipinos go to the cemetery to visit the graves of deceased relatives and friends. Some prefer to go on Oct. 31st or Nov. 1st, while some go to the cemetery for three straight days. Others would spend the night at their loved ones mausoleum. Once they arrive, they clean the tombs, light up candles, offer flowers, and say a prayer for the souls of the departed.

Many people who comment negatively have probably never lived in the Philippines, the Filipino people are just trying to remember and show respect for their departed loved ones. Thanks for sharing this video.

Hey Brian my dear friend, I went with my wife and her family to visit their loved ones today. All souls day is definitely a very special and somber day. I am really amazed on how big the cemetery is. We prayed for my wife's loved ones who has passed, and we prayed for my loved ones who have passed. The filipino people are just so amazing and awesome. And it is definitely a celebration of life. Even when things go wrong, the Filipino people are always smiling and, they are always positive. I will never regret my decision that I moved here to the Philippines. I have nothing but love and respect for the Philippine people and their culture. Thank you Brian my dear friend for sharing this awesome video. Please stay safe and healthy, and God bless you, lot, Borges, Miguel, Hannah grace, Bing Bing (Sam), Reynalyn, and the rest of your beautiful family. And may God bless Batchoy, B-2, Rocky, and Earl always.😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Thank you for bringing us to the cemetery. We really pay respects to our loved ones by going to the cemetery and praying for them, being a Catholic country we believe in the Resurrection and the life of the world to come. As Jesus is the Resurrection himself, and said that those who believe in Him will have everlasting life.

I’ve only been here for 7 months and this is my first time experiencing this and my wife put out dinner and candles on our back porch and setup a table here at our house because we’re too far from her family but we did send some money to her family for this. Just another beautiful thing about the Philippines. I actually feel blessed being here in this beautiful country. 😇

Do not be surprised. Yours and ours have the same history. Honoring our departed loved ones and God only knows the living are partying in their graves, some get drunk now they have police and security in the entrance. No more weapons, alcohols and maybe smoking in the cemeteries.

I remember the video with the US officer interred in that place. It still amazes me how nice some of the family mausoleums are. Some of them are nicer than what many Filipinos actually live in. Hats off for respecting their culture.

some of my fondest memories of growing up in the philippines is the family going to the cemetery to visit our loved ones on all souls day, it was like a national holiday, everybody would be at the cemetery just hanging out by their loved one's graves - my grandparents are still buried in the philippines, it's been a while since I went to their graves

Brian, thank you for this video, and I am saying a prayer for all of those both her in the U.S., the Philippines, and around the World for those who celebrate this day. Being a Catholic, with my rich French Canadian Family, we celebrate all Saints Day with a special church mass on this day. I feel with the Spanish Catholic influence In Philippines culture, this is a beautiful way to celebrate our Family Members who are loved but gone now. I have shared this video with my Future Wife, who lives in Guihulngan City, in Negros Oriental, to hear what she will say about this. Thank You Buddy😊

Each crypt in a mosolyum may have more than one person in it. My wife bought the ground for her mosolyum in the local cemetary in her barrio almost a decade ago, and it has two crypts in it. Her mother is in one and two or three close relatives are in the other.

I am not gonna judge people's traditions but to have those structures that look like very nice houses not being used for the living seems like such a waste in a country that has such poverty and homelessness. I also understand that people go to the cemetery to pay their respects which seems a lot more reasonable...

Those are mausoleums owned by private locals. Honouring the dead is a Catholic Mexican tradition brought down through the 300-year Acapulco-Manila trade, while mausoleums are by Chinese settlers.

Most of them they have story to tell. When those people were alive they were not able to live that kind of house. Now the family has financially stable they cannot experience that because they are dead already. Now it is a simple way for them to say thank you and share the life that they have now. It is not useless.

It’s an extremely different experience, but Australia drops its elderly into aged care homes where they are not looked after. It’s extremely difficult to understand but it’s a very nice culture. In Australia most children don’t know their grandparents name. Perhaps we need to consider who’s culture is correct, and I’m confident it’s not ours.

Hi Brian. A little cost info for these mausoleums. First the family purchases the lot. Depending on year of purchase will depend on your cost. The wife and I had a send off for our mother three years ago. We had purchased our lot for her a very long time ago and paid the going rate. Since the lot was already paid for, we hired contractors to build the mausoleum. I’m blessed to have contractors in the family which saved us money. I love how the Filipino culture cherish the souls of the deceased family member. I’m grateful you didn’t use your camera to record the insides of the mausoleums. This can be very sacred to the families dearly departed. Thank you for this video as a reminder to visit family when I return to the Philippines in March. Be Blessed and enjoy your life with your family.
