Great video, I have a 21 fe 350 and have been using the Motorex synthetic, past two times I changed the oil I was quite overdue and both times I drained it the oil looked new like I didn’t even need to change it, good stuff.

Oh wow that's great. It does also depend on the user and how you use it 🙂. But yeah that frequent interval is a little tedious for me

That’s a good tip on the “Run the bike for a minute” before the sight glass will measure correctly. I just did the break-in oil change on a BMW G310R and found that I also had to wait a few minutes *after* the initial run to let the oil level stabilize in the sight glass.

No need to lay the bike on it’s side at all. Keep 2 or 3 new filters on hand stored in an oil filled mason jar ready to go for next time. Pre-saturated. This shows you why you always change the break in oil very early ON ANY NEW ENGINE. You don’t need to wait until 465 miles for the next oil change. I did my 2nd oil change at 200 miles, then started to follow the schedule at 465. Each oil change it gets cleaner and cleaner as the wearing surfaces get broken in. I didn’t like the idea of riding over 400 miles with shavings still circulating around. That’s a really nice bike. Enjoy it!

Oh, imagine to have to lay the 750/850 on it’s side for doing an oil change. They are a little heavier to lay down controlled and to raise up again I guess.

Since this bike can't carry too much heavy load. It would be better option to plan stops to places that sell the oil. But pack the tools and filter.

Hey I am about to buy a 2020 fe 350s with 500 kms on it and i am worried that the first owner hasn't changed the oil for the break in. Question: When did you guys stop seeing shavings and from the first to third oil change; how much did the shavings dissipate ? Thank you for your help.
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff, we haven't changed the oil more than once because I am still recovering from surgery this entire time. Not sure what your experience was but I've worked on many vehicles and motorcycles old and new in the past and when they are new there's always a little bit of shavings but they dissipate over time. I've not really had issues with that happening. Wow only 500 kms. Why they selling it?

So how often you should change engine oil based on manual instruction on fe350 s ? I am considering between crf300l and 2023 fe350s.... Anything that i should noted for both of it ?
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hendra, if you are lazy like me, I will choose the honda crf because it is cheaper and maintenance interval is longer as in i think around 4k miles? Not sure but regular bike internvals between oil changes. instead of every 15 hours per the husqvarna service manual for the FE 350s. although fe350 is way lighter 250 lbs vs 337 lbs wet weight. the fe350s is more of a real dirt bike in terms of maintenance which means more frequent maintenance and if that doesn't bother you then it's a great bike. I like it, even though it's not my bike, I take it from kyle all the time and it's fun to ride it off road. definitely not as cheap as the honda, meaning if you need parts, also more expensive. Also 350 is very tall, but if that doesnt bother you either then it's all good. Good luck! -Pam

Awesome guys! What size is the mosko moto you have on there, is that an 80 or a 40?
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 3 жыл бұрын
The 80L but this is the older version. This isn't the revolver so you cannot twist the panniers up or down. But it fits okay. It fits better on the 701. The reckless 80 is already too small for motocamping compared to the Backcountry panniers lol. I don't think i can do reckless 40. And especially Kyle 🤣 he CANNOT pack light 🤣🤣🤣. I can see the 40s doing ok for hotelling. But then if the 80 fits. Might as well use the bigger one.

I just bought one fe 350 2023, the user manual says “check the valve clearance” Do you really need to ? 😮
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 2 жыл бұрын
Yes is it better to check it it you want to keep the engine longer. If you dont really smashj on it or beat it up or ride it aggressively then maybe you can be relaxed in the maintenance. But if you ride aggressive and beat the engine, it's better to keep the recommended maintenance schedule. I have been meaning to do a video on valve clearance for this bike, but haven't found the time lately. Congrats on your new bike!

I am wondering: I want to buy an fe 350 and use it 90% in the city and then maybe go through the woods on the weekend. Do you think I still need to pay attention to the 10-15 hrs oil change interval or this only meant for heavy enduro action? for cruising it seems a bit crazy to me. thanks :)
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 2 жыл бұрын
Imho, you can slack off a bit if you dpnt use it for its intended purposes. As evidenced by another comment here on this video. If you go smash on it in the woods frequently, then you should be doing the maintenance more diligently. Hope that helps!

I would recommend that you change the oil after the first 2 hours of easy riding. Then 5 hours then 10 hours. Then check the oil at the next 10 hours and maybe you can stretch it. If you do that it will run forever

@@TrackOurJourney shavings from what?
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 2 жыл бұрын
This website better explains the reason. as you keep the maintenance going later on you see less if even no more shavings after the first break in service. (of course later on (many miles later...) you may see it again, but then that would then be more of a concern). www.motorcyclistonline.com/how-much-debris-is-normal-in-oil-after-motorcycle-break-in/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIt's%20possible%20this%20material%20may,oil%20changes%2C%E2%80%9D%20adds%20Ethell. "“It’s possible this material may be due to machining or assembly debris left in the engine that wasn’t knocked loose or picked up initially by the magnet,” says Wright. “He will probably see more (debris on the magnet) in the next two oil changes,” adds Ethell. So the consensus is that it’s not uncommon for an engine to keep spitting out swarf and break-in debris long after its initial service."
