The 2022 IAU 24-hour European Championships took place September 17th - 18th, 2022 in Verona, Italy.
Irish Team
5 women (Aoife, Lorraine, Sinead, Nichola, Ann) and 8 men were on the Irish team. Both teams were very strong.
When the race started there were 29 Federations with 236 athletes on the start line with Ireland's Women team finishing in eight position and the Men in ninth.
The individual titles went to Aleksandr Sorokin from Lithuania finishing with a new world record distance of 319.614Km (4:30K avg for 24hrs) and Patricja Bereznowska of Poland with a distance of 256.250Km.
Sinead competed with 3 guide runners (Chris, Jessie, Miki). They guided her around the course safely. Sinead stood out in the race because she was the only one using a guide runner. Competing in ultras against able bodied is tough. Most ultra runners know who Sinead is and they are aware of her visual impairment. Most runners wished her well each time they met on the 1.528m loop.
