For its’ 100th anniversary, one of America’s most iconic bikes has been completely reimagined by America’s first motorcycle company. The new Chief is the perfect blend of old and new - a timeless design supplemented with modern technology and performance, and zero compromises. It retains its classic compact stance, simple steel frame, and 64-inch wheelbase. With the Chief’s timeless design, dedication to Indian Motorcycle’s legendary past, and unobtrusive modern technology, the only people it will disappoint are the ones who hoped to keep it in their rearview.

Interesting! I’m thinking of doing the same but haven’t done the research yet. Other than the tire spoke design and the tire size, what’s really the difference between the chief bobber dark horse and the chief dark horse? I mean you can modify the chief dark horse to have forward controls and mini apes, so….

Same here. I just completed the MSF course for the second time last month. Waiting for my license to get in from my home state. I was going to get the base model Chief at first due to price point, but after realizing the Infotainment system only comes on the Dark Horse and higher models, I put my $500 towards a Dark Horse. Hoping it comes in this month sometime.

@Borinquen Bobber This is certainly not considered a "Big bike" and I don't get those people telling you what and not to buy, buy what you want. I went basically from a 190kg Yamaha MT07 (FZ07) in the States to an 400kg Indian Challenger, no problem at all. This bike is small and fun to ride, that's it.

"Test rode" this bike at Tucson Indian yesterday. It looks cool, lots of torque, etc. but from my limited around the block ride, I still prefer my Scout Bobber. Also rode the new FTR, would have loved to give it a proper ride, up Mt Lemon or Mt Grahm.

You can outfit it with tank bags, saddlebags and lots of other touring stuff to use it that way. The only complaint may be range. Then again, that depends on the person. I don't mind stopping every 125-150 miles for fuel since it gives me a chance to look around and get hydrated.

Not trying to be a hater. I think the FTR 1200 is a great bike but...it sounds like a Briggs & Stratton when he revs it. That being said honest question; Belt vs Chain. Does it matter anymore? Are belts as good as chains these days?
@mattshaggs2931
@mattshaggs2931 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on application. Road bike with moderate HP, belt all the way since there's practically no maintenance required. Off-road use or high HP capable of high speeds? Chain. Chains require maintenance but are tougher overall so they can handle high speeds/power or the occasional rock being tossed into the pulley teeth.

Cheezz, I am 5-11 30. Yeah I have a long torso and relatively short legs. I saw this female motorcycle KZbinr who came out and said that her inseam was 2 in higher than mine but yet she was bitching about seat height and actually lowered her first bike. To her credit she got a clue and later said that was a mistake and the next bike she bought she didn't lower it. Motorcycle seat height was never a thing for me or any of my contemporaries when we were riding 30 or more years ago. Why is it turned into a thing in recent years? I think part of the reason is some unfortunate wording and concepts in the msf that makes it sound like a big deal.

It is, but it's a big understressed 49 degree v-twin; it doesn't make a ton of power. It's rated to make about 120 ft/lbs of torque at around 2900 RPMs, which is a lot of torque. At such a slow engine speed, however, total horsepower is going to be quite low. Less than half of what a modern 1000cc sport bike makes, in fact. HP is equal to torque times RPM divided by 5252. So this bike is probably only making around 65-70HP whereas modern literbikes make close to (or more than) 200hp. They make less peak torque (80-90 ft/lbs), but are able to apply it at far higher engine speeds (over 10,000 RPMs and sometimes a lot higher), which means more HP.
