Why don't they make the front fender adjustable up and down so like if you get into some sticky mud it don't get clogged in between your fender and tire as I went through a corn field one time with a bike with close front finder and mud built up and about a half hour later on the road I hit a bump and the tire rubbed the mud and flip me flying over the handle bars. If you can make a adjustable windshield why can't you do the same for a front fender.

I have the same question. I had the first 1290 SA from 2015. It was an awesome road bike and decent in gravel. Too big for single track. An absolute thrill to ride in a twisty mountain road with aggressive riding (leaning it over). I worry the R might lose the thrill of the twisty tarmac. Love to hear your thoughts.

Impressive riding skills! I chose the S model and gonna fire it up first time in about 2 weeks - yay! The best for me would have been the sporty looks of the R plus the chassis of the S. I am curious how the wind screens will perform. I prefer to have a constant, smooth stream of air against the helmet (like in sport bikes) instead of turbulences. I have the S and R screen, as well as the extra spoiler to play around with. Some combination should do the job.

Lovely bike, but the foot pegs really need to be bigger (longer), and the exhaust heat shield interferes with the right heel, even with size 9 1/2 feet - even after "Rally" pegs installed. Oxygen sensor gets hit by right heel too... would hate to damage it or the wires going in to it. The heat shield should have been made to protect it (sensor) from contact too.

Hi.Maybe I would like to buy this bike, but I`ve one question to the owners: Did you have any vibrations on the handlebars in some speed range ? thx .
@FethiWebist Жыл бұрын
It rides smooth. Once when the road was kind a swimming pool during heavy rain, it felt like the bike were trying to keep grip on the road. That sort of vibration is actually feels like a feedback, which I think is good. There is a video from someone riding on the autobahn up to 247 km/h. It is worth to watch it.

You did a great job hitting the points that hard off-road riders want to hear. 👍 I have definitely considered this bike for my “more road friendly” bike. I know some GSA guys will comment on that one 😩 I have had two GSA’s but I like a bike that feels more like a dirt bike off-road.

With KTM, reliability is always a little in question..especially the first year they release a new bike. I have a 2014 1190R that exploded on a trip to Utah. With that said, ktm has addressed a lot of the criticisms that people had about those bikes..lower seat height, lower center of gravity, easy air filter access, less heat from the engine. I’m sure this thing is killer..but does it win out against the new triumph tiger 1200, or a GSA? Quite frankly, I still think the best bike ktm ever made was the 990…

Still nursing my 990 and agree with you 100%! No sure how long I can keep her purring along so the new 1290 is looking better and better. The parallel twin of the 890 R is just a bit soulless after you've listened to that v twin for a decade. Happy to see the chassis and maintenance changes but not looking forward to riding a super computer. Sure wish they would do a 1L LC8 with nothing but ABS and a USB port. :)

If it has 5 or 6 different drive modes, could they make a fuel economy mode for HWY road trips ?
@CurtisBrandt2 жыл бұрын
The KTM big twins get pretty good economy for the stonking power output. Right wrist features eco mode.
@dimosk73892 жыл бұрын
its actually really economical, considering its power. on my 2016 1290, traveling at about 170km/h, it consumes about 7 lt/100kms. thats about 34mpg going at about 105mph. on mountain roads, when youre touring, it consumes about 6lt/100kms. thats almost 40mpg. for a 160hp, thats really good figures
