I lease a 2020 LR Disco Sport...a refreshed exterior and the vehicle is just great. This is my second LR. I just love the brand. The ride is very smooth, I live in Minnesota USA which has long cold frozen snow filled winters and this car is a snow monster. It can power through 2+ feet of snow with ease.....I have never been stuck and the cars gripe is fantastic. The car weighs 4600 pounds which gives it that quintessential LR heft that you will love. She slumbers a bit from zero to giddy up.....but is agile from 20-40 mph or 40-70 mph. The turbo kicks in well with no jolt. The car is incredibly comfortable. I am 6'1 215 pounds with an athletic build and I love the drive position and overall airiness of the cabin. The sliding 2nd row seat makes for above average leg room in its class and beats all competition. The lease ends in 6 months and I hope to lease another Disco Sport. Not one mechanical issue, just a pure joy to drive on and off road. This vehicle excels on the old off road log trails of Superior National Forest!

Great review as always Paul! I own a 2017 HSE D150 with 57,000km on the clock from new and it has been flawless. I regularly take ours off road for family holidays, beach camping etc - and it is a very capable off-roader when tyre pressures on the 19" Pirelli's are set appropriately. The only thing that hinders it off-road is the clearance of the front cross member. Apart from that it does everything we need it to do for daily family life while also being very capable when given the chance for some light off roading. I've also driven the face-lifted model and it is an excellent step forward for the model. As the kids grow we'll need more cargo space, so considering either a D5 - or a Defender, cause they're bad-ass.

This is not just a facelifted Discovery Sport. It's a completely new car as it's been built on the new RR Evoque platform. The old platform of the previous model was so problematic, with the worst problem being the B pillar detaching from the body on the upper end, that eventually they decided to ditch it.

It's been almost 10 months since I've booked my Kia Sorento GTLine AWD diesel and now with all the waiting was just looking at alternate options. The Discovery sport came up as a capable option but just the price and the features you get compared to the Kia are no where near it. Half the options are additional extras which, if I end up paying, easily exceed the Kia top spec by around 20k. Would appreciate if you could do some comparisons between such vehicles too. Btw appreciate the detail which you put into your reviews. Keep up the good work Paul👍🏻👌🏻

Thanks for the video. I like the design of the new model. I had a 2017 diesel and really liked the design in and out. Down side was quality of build (eg. loose cables resulting in noise, damaged roof rack cover strips, faulty DPF sensor) and issues with diesel partical filter constantly blocking unless I drove long distances every week. I had to have the car towed to dealer on multiple occasions in 3 years. Oil issues too due to contamination. If the quality of build issues were resolved and I was in the habit of driving 20km every trip it would be a fantastic car. Even though I had a bad experience I really liked the design. I suspect most people would not face the problems I had
@StephenFogarty20232 жыл бұрын
A pity u had this experience. It was found that the DPF does not like short suburban driving. For that reason, if that’s your driving style, LR strongly suggest to buy a petrol motor, but they did not know this until 2018. My 2017 DS diesel has been perfect and excellent build quality

@hedydd22 жыл бұрын
You should not have the oil and DPF issues with vehicles built since the last facelift, which was a rather major and essential remodelling of the front bodyshell. This was specifically to make room for the DPF to be mounted on the end of the turbocharger flange rather than a fair distance away under the front seating area approximately on pre-facelift models. The early remote location was a total disaster due to the exhaust gas cooling excessively and preventing the DPF from burning the soot residue. The previous Ford engine’d models fitted fine but the Ingenium just didn’t. They never had that issue with the longitudinal Ingenium engine models such as Velar, F-Pace and Discovery5 etc, due to there being plenty of width available for a close-mounted DPF from the outset. There are also timing chain issues with Ingeniums of whatever orientation of the same vintage. Best be aware of that issue also.

Awesome review as usual. I have a first gen 2015 built 2016 model SE fully optioned, 170KW and just over 32,000km. Poor reliability initially always had problems with the electronics, ABS, overheat on a hot day causing electronics to fail or screen restarts, tail gate auto open or close for no reasons that hitting people. Had to replaced the battery and some modules few times in the first few years. The issues still happens on some rare occasions and after 5 years now the top of the roof 's B pillar is detaching and leaking water inside the car on top of my head under heavy rain or car wash (The car has no sun roof optioned can you believe that!?)! Any of these issues no matter how small after warranty, are very expensive to fix (ie: side minor costs over 2k ,body scratches costs 5k+ per side for the paint etc). The car is also slow to accelerate with huge turbo lag on daily stop-start driving between traffics with bad fuel economy. Very lousy depreciation rate either, other car dealers would not pay more the ~20k for a trade in for a 93k car originally purchased! I don't think I will buy another Disco Sport after this...

They make interesting vehicles that have probably the best interior design of any similar vehicles. However, I chose a Kia Sorento 2.2 for its reliability and performance and value for money. Mainly the reliability and back-up for a long warranty period. Discovery Sport and Volvo XC90 were the alternative choices, all diesel. My previous car was an XC90 and I have had many JLR vehicles over the years. My long experience with Land Rover, the company, has influenced my choice significantly over the years. Negatively.

Besides being able to slide forward and back, Row 2 seats can also recline, to aid seating comfort. Row 2 seats have a 40/20/40 split fold function Very convenient. Row 2 USB ports should be standard !! Silly LR Australia !! My 2017 DS has done 85,000 kms A 132 kw / 430 nm diesel HSE model I’d highly recommend the diesel motor. Sharkfin antennas on vehicles are for satnav, that’s why they are on the roof - “line of sight” to the sky. That’s another reason the antenna labelled I the window is as such. There are demister lines in the window as well as antenna ones for the FM etc. A bit of a shame you didn’t take it off-road and up your “log mountain” and the rest of that area.

That's not true, it's for aesthetics. Sharkfins are perfectly capable of having all the necessary antennas for DAB/FM/AM/GPS within them and many do.

@@ln5747 No. They don’t waste materials and wind drag/noise on the roof for aesthetics. It’s for GPS. And yes it CAN include AM/FM etc but they were originally for GPS/SATNAV as that isn’t suited to a wire antenna or one built into the window. That was my point. Usually they are separate though not always. Primary reason is and was GPS. Other antennas built-in are secondary. Also people who cover their sharkfin with a roof platform will seriously degrade their satellite reception.

@@jerrymyahzcat nonsense. You don't need a sharkfin for GPS. Most do include FM etc in the form of helical type antenna. They are built in because they can be, so as not to have a 1/4 wavelength antenna which is poor aesthetics and no longer required.
@jerrymyahzcat2 жыл бұрын
@@ln5747 never said you NEEDED a sharkfin for GPS. I said that’s what they are used for typically. And yes they can include other antennas. But they don’t always.
@ln57472 жыл бұрын
@@jerrymyahzcat you said a sharkfin arose because of GPS, I said it didn't, which is correct. It arose due to technological ability to fit everything inside a sharkfin (or Windows etc) and aesthetics. Zero need for a sharkfin for GPS.

I was looking at buying this, except the long long list of extras was shocking, $500 for fog lights, $600 for rear charging ports and no option for a sunroof that opens?! It’s beyond a joke, I don’t know how they convince anyone to purchase a land rover. Walk into Volvo and got a top spec SUV that was better quality and had everything on it. Land Rover needs to lift their games the interior is from 2015- horrible

So a Fortuner’/Everest is quicker than this even after being much lighter than the ute based SUVs
