does the non turbo have enough power to move the VCX50? I have two vehicles with turbo now, and both have turbo and heat issues and don't want a turbo vehicle again.

Absolutely it does, ppl don't need the turbo in any Mazda other than a family loaded CX-9, they like the turbo. People will tell you otherwise but globally the majority of proud\happy Mazda owners are N\a motor 2.5. The turbo adds great off the line power to get up to speed. Great power when quickly downshifting to pass. And drinks up more fuel quite so on the low RPMs. Pros and cons I guess you could say! Wouldn't worry about Mazda's turbo.
