If I’m not mistaken, the reason why Mercedes’ leather seats are a more expensive option is because they are trying to take a stand against animal cruelty. I have an E class and you the seats don’t have real leather and I’m actually glad they don’t. They are great seats nonetheless.

This came out in 2019 as a 2020 model and still ages like fine wine. Just like the XC90 this GLS still seems fresh. Maybe 2023 or 2024. More than likely for 2024 it’ll get some slight updates as far as the exterior just like the X7.

That’s what I love about German car. The trim levels can be so basic but then they turn into avatars or Lego’s whichever way u put it. You can really get the prefect one for you just by having all these options. Even though u are very much overwhelmed with so many packages and options.

I have loved both of my GLSs but my husband wants to buy a different SUV. I think the GLS is the best because of safety but I’m finding it hard to find proper crash testing videos, safety data and comparisons. He is looking mostly at Audi Q7, Prado and Range Rovers. Any suggestions?

The GLS just nails so many areas that buyers of this class demand. The refinement is perhaps its biggest trademark. Despite the fact that MB has tried to sell this as the "S-Class of SUVs" for years, this is the first iteration that seems to really earn that badge. The ride is supremely comfortable, easily outclassing most underneath something like a Cullinan or Bentaga. But I have more own airballs, brothers: MB Tex at $90K is just unacceptable. Yes I know the world is becoming increasingly accepting of "vegan"(read: Pleather) interiors due to the insurgency of EVs, but this is a MERCEDES! And in this light of a color, the graining detracts from an otherwise nice interior(although the design is a bit cautious overall). I also think the plastic gear and turn signal stalks are appallingly cheap looking.(the true S Class has aluminum stalks). One other question brothers: You guys just tested the Expedition Timberline with the high-output Ecoboost. It seemed like that vehicle was faster than this GLS. But I do know that MB I-6 is silky smooth, so I guess you have to pick your poison.

Looks great on the outside, but rides super rough and the transmission skipping around 2nd gear is uncomfortable. Also, I HATE that Mercedes abandoned the brown 2nd color inside (floor, dash, door bottoms, matts, etc) for black. The "paint every flipped house gray" trend died fast and now we're still stuck with this cold white/black interior... bring back the tan/brown!

I go back and forth all the time on whether or not I should trade my 2018 GLS in for one of these bad boys. Mine is still covered by MB CPO warranty for another year and a half, so I’ll probably pull the trigger this year if I’m gonna. I think my third row is slightly roomier though, and that was one of the primary deciding factors when I picked my GLS over the x7 and Q7.
