I’m on my sixth Nissan product, first Frontier and I change my oil every 5000 miles. I still have a 2007 Xterra and 2010 Pathfinder both no issues.

I used to use 20K mile oil made by Amsoil in a ford I had but I could never go that long. I was afraid my dad would haunt me. I once wrecked my bicycle and needed stitches but dad changed his oil before going to get stitches. It was due! Honestly full synthetic oil I change at 5K.

3K to 5K is my choice! oil is cheap, engine is not cheap!

Nissan trucks are BEST small trucks. I have a 2007, 2017, & new 2024. I always changed my oil every 5,000 miles. 2007 has 323,000 miles on it, 2017 has 192,000 miles. MOBIL 1 O-20W always been my oil. I was Castrol & changed over because Mobil 1 Synthetic is best. No complaints. Always changed my plugs & drivebelt @100, 000 miles. Brakes as needed. Usually last about 60-70,000 miles. Oil & tire rotations is the main thing over 100,000 miles. Change automatic trans fluid @every 30,000. My first 2 trucks are 5 speed manual. New is automatic. 9 speed trans is different but smooth. I don't like that the engineer took the fan off the engine. It was better that way. In future, I will have to replace dual fans separated from engine. Not a long lasting move from engine. Overall, Nissan trucks are OUTSTANDING.

You can disable the backup assistance to keep it from beeping and braking when towing.

Here is your next small project, Protect the oil pan with the oil pan skid plate, Z-1 has the pan plate. Inexpensive part, get the bolts with it. Z-1 sells a magnetic drain plug for the 3.8 and get a few oil filters from them to.. great prices.

I changed my first oil at 1200 miles which was 2 months old, and it was black but yours at 3000 looked thicker also. I was monitoring the dipstick oil color and when it started to get a good shade of black decided to change it earlier then next one at about 5k or 6 months old and thereafter. Now 2 months after the first oil change and oil is cleaner than first 2 months. I do a lot of short trips and I think 1 year is too long. If you change it yourself oil is cheap.

Id say oil change intervals are very dependent on the filter you get, filters have different mileage ratings, and premium filters can keep the oil more clean. Oem filters 5k is the max id go.

when I do a oil change, I don't take any panels off. I used to. on my old Xterra, which is basically the same thing. Now I just go through the side. It's easy. just sit by the front wheel and reach your arm through the front/side. yah, it kinda makes a mess, sort of. but its not to bad. oh, and that extra .4 or so quart of oil in addition to the 5 qtrs, I use Lucas HD oil stabilizer. every 5k with mobile 1 synthetic.

If you plan to keep your truck awhile and you drive a lot use your full synthetic oil and change every 5k or 6 months…… oil is much cheaper than a new engine. The places advertising 10k oil changes are usually saying that so they can claim cheaper cost of ownership during the warranty period but after that they don’t care and all Powertrain repairs are on the customer…… but also some provide a fine print such as Toyota on my rav4 where they say I can go 10k but only if I can check mark 10 things in the driving habits and environment. if I can’t check all of them they say 5k full synthetic or 6 months and if your using synthetic blend 3500 miles or 4 months……

Save your engine, damn good catch can here.. J&L oil separator Company. I got black easy install see the video they have. Mine only gets 15% full at 4k miles.

The manual for these trucks says 5,000 mile oil changes if operating under “severe use”, 7,500 if not.

You should always pre-fill the oil filter with oil!!

I'll ask you the same question that I've asked all the other guys..... why? ______________ (your answer) (My reply) What about Toyota , Subaru and VW (just to name a few) that have vertical oil filters..... they're always empty when you shut the car off and start them back up. Does that mean they're always starving for oil in every start up?

I’ve never filled the filter on hundreds of oil changes on numerous types of cars, trucks, tractors, etc and never had an issue. It’s not even possible to do that with cartridge style filters.

That may work if the filter is straight up on the engine, spill half of the oil out when horizontal and make a bigger mess.

If you activate the "P" button and reverse, then go forward and reverse again have to press the button again every time. You can go through the menu and deactivate it but will reset after engine is restarted. Its a safety thing, but why not have the button stay activated until you deactivate it as an option.

Man the placement of the filter makes it damn near impossible to change without getting oil everywhere. I used a oil zorb blanket underneath the filter and still got oil everywhere

That's why I got it everywhere cause I put the oil blanket on top of the drain spout whatchamacallit. Learn something everyday thanks for the video man. Even for something as simple as changing your oil.

Toyota shot themselves in the foot with a turbo engine. That's a German burnup the engine deal that won't last. Toyota deal did a terrible move. I see more Toyota tacomas on lots than ever since turbo 4 cyl ( Tacoma) & 6 cyl turbo in Tundra . Thank you Toyota for increasing Nissan more on the road. Both trucks are good but Toyota not good now for sure.

Mileage is not great! Agree. But I generally get over 20 MPG because I'm pokey... Get 24 mpg on long trips: BTW you forgot to put oil IN the filter before reinstalling. The manual shift does exactly what the Tacoma manual shift does. The way to think of this is the sifter locks you into the highest gear. So when you are in stop and go traffic, move the lever over and put it in 4 or 5th gear to keep it from hunting up to 6-7- 8 around town - works great!

I didn't forget.... I just didn't do it because I'm not making a mess for no reason! So many vehicles with vertical oil filters that empty out every time they shut off and they don't have issues..... one start without out won't hurt it.
