Sticking with purely reacting to actual award winners in this video fellas. We aren't celebrity news commentators and don't have anything really valuable to add to the whole "slap" situation. Nor did we have a crazy immediate reaction to it. All the winners got overshadowed by that moment anyway, so we're just going with reacting to the award results as usual.

That's right, i wanna discuss something else about this Oscar. I think I already seen enough people talk about the slap so I don't need to go to that anymore and just focus on the winners. I liked that Dune win big at the technical aspect and Branagh won Best Original Screenplay. Also can we talk about the fact that Dune is Hans Zimmer's second Oscar? That's crazy, should've had like 4 by now including Dune

The Slap really overshadowed the predictability of the results and the ridiculous decision to not present the 8 categories. This Oscars ran longer than last year's by half an hour and they were able then to present all categories live. They have to kill the fluff and the overly long jokes and just focus on the nominees and winners.

Some takeaways other than “the slap heard around the world” (an impromptu name for the incident): 1. CODA defies several stats to win BP. 2. Dune, with several craft wins AND editing, could be poised to give Villeneuve a director’s win next time around and a first sci fi BP victory for its sequel. 3. PTA missed again, and The Academy will be chomping at the bit to award him for a future that is more on the mold of TWBB or The Master. 4. Once again the film with the most nominations did not win BP. 5. The Academy loves Disney/Pixar. 6. Diane Warren missed again in song. She and score composer Thomas Newman (Shawshank, 1917, American Beauty) can’t catch a break, and hopefully will be honored some day.

Will Smith has officialy lost his mind, he is a scientologist with a wife who openly brags about sleeping with their sons friends. He's been mocked for her behaviour for so long and I feel he somehow broke last night and went crazy. After that having a speech against violence and how he is all about love crying on stage? I am shocked he wasn't escorted out of the ceremony. His behaviour was shocking. I don't think Oscars need publicity like that, they are a prestige, classy ceremony and this was giving Love and Hiphop reality show vibes.

@Bjork4s
@Bjork4s 2 жыл бұрын
The original movie was highly criticzed by the French deaf community because it didn't have deaf actors to play deaf characters to the point they got the sign language wrong. When they got the sign language wrong, that's where the original movie fell apart atleast for the deaf community. CODA exists to fix that and made it better by having actual deaf actors to play deaf characters. The community praised the movie more positively than they did with the original. Also one of the producers of the original movie, produced this remake so that's not an issue for it. Good for the French producers gave a blessing for this movie and won an Oscar for Best Picture together with the Americans. It was actually the French producers that approached the writer and director of this movie to remake the original movie, they took the criticism of the original movie and ask the Americans to fix it, improved it, make it better and more respectful to the deaf community. Also remember that The Departed won Beat Picture for being a great movie aswell as being a remake of a Hong Kong movie and Ben Hur (1959) won Beat Picture for being a great movie and a remake of the 1925 silent film, you're not gonna complain about that??

The thing is that The Power of Dog is also an emotional movie (for me much more then CODA) but the feeling that evokes is darker. I don't like that CODA is considered a more emotional movie because it makes (some) people cry, a film can touch your soul in so many ways... CODA is only a heartwarming remake with good acting and that's literally it. TPOTD is very thought provoking and is all of the categories where it was nominated. I am probably more upset then I should be, but it just irritates me that we are rewarding something so formulaic and seen already so many times... Also, where was this hype for Sound of Metal last year, a film that is actually, in my opinion, much more worthy of this attention.

The Academy needs to change if we want to get more unpredictable Oscars. We're seeing the same movies & performances win over and over again to the point that creatives know exactly what they need to make to get an Oscar. Something like "Oscar-bait" as a concept shouldn't exist. All Oscar-bait means is that the same movies get nominated and win over and over again. The Oscars have a type of movie they award. And with saying "This is the best film of the year" what they are effectively saying is that some movies are categorically worse than others. For example, by not nominating Animated Films in any other category but the animated feature category, the Oscars are saying "Animated Movies are in general worse than Live-Action Dramas". If we want more unpredictable Oscars, the Academy needs a drastic overhaul. And that's not gonna happen, is it?

Not really. The past 6 Best Pictures - Moonlight, Shape of Water, Green Book, Parasite, Nomadland, CODA ... That is a quite diverse selection of films. There's no "Oscar bait" trend there. The good thing about The Power of the Dog loss is that for many years to come it will gain more respect and appreciation. It joins the ranks of Saving Private Ryan, Brokeback Mountain, Social Network and Roma - all amazing runner-up films that should have won. I even feel the Bennedict Cumberbatch narrative has gotten much stronger now! Mark my words, he's gonna win an Oscar in the next 5 years or so. It's just a shame not 1 acting performance was awarded for the film. Despite that, it was such a boring end to what has been a chaotic season. I will say what CODA's win does for the deaf community is fantastic! Hopefully we can see more representation. And Kotsur is amazing and 1000% deserving! Hope he gets many more roles after this.

The most predictable Oscars in, at least, 20 years. It didn’t have any surprises. I was expecting, idk, maybe Nightmare Alley wins production design, maybe editing for another film, or even an upset in the adapted/original screenplay. The lowest moment was indeed the “Chris Rock/Will Smith” feud, the tension destroyed the mood and everyone was so tense that kinda reflects in the speeches.

Props for being excited about these awards when the only surprise was for a category tucked away in the pre-show and revealed over Twitter almost as if the Academy was ashamed of it. For me Oscar night is no longer my Christmas. The feeling the Oscars give me now is how I feel when I wake up on New Years morning with a nasty hangover, try to remember what the hell just happened and am told by my significant other that I'm better off not remembering. But I still have a cute photo of Troy and Youn Yuh-jung acting adorable to remind me that hey at least one cool thing happened before I blacked out. My Christmas morning is Oscar nominations day. On that day as a movie enthusiast, I get excitement. I get surprises. I get the unbridled potential of hey, this really cool thing might actually get recognized and appreciated because I delude myself into thinking voters will actually go out of their way to watch it. And I can pretend that certain categories will be treated with respect and dignity... instead of being told that animation is just for kids, that the highly deserving Documentary feature winner would have his moment upstaged by a scandal, that 8 awards would be announced over Twitter ahead of time, that a substantial chunk of the In Memoriam callouts would be tucked away on a website while the others are shouted out by a rousing choral dance number and that all of the fun I would soon have speculating on outcomes would feel like I simply wasted my time when I could've just hopped on over to Oddschecker hours beforehand and knocked out an almost perfect Oscar ballot. With that all said, you two have been a big part in making this journey a memorable one for all of us. The one exciting part about so many predictive stats being broken is that we should hopefully have some legitimate conversations in the awards space instead of simply being told x can't win because y and z didn't happen. And that is most assuredly something to celebrate and look forward to.

The most disgusting thing about the whole mess was Will Smith equating himself to the real Richard Williams after he lost his damn mind ... like wtf, that man had to silently sit in the crowd and watch his young daughters experience vile racism, but taught them that you rise above it and silence critics by winning fairly. Will Smith tried to buy his kids Hollywood careers and even that failed. What a loser.

I hate to sound like a Debbie Downer but this was the worst Oscar's show in a long time! So predictable! Mass didn't score an original screenplay nomination and Belfast won this category. Seriously? Also, "Cmon, Cmon" was so much better than Coda and it failed to score even one nomination. Moreover, Ann Dowd and Gaby Hoffman were overlooked for their vibrant performances in Mass and Cmon Cmon but Judi Dench was nominated for Belfast? Jessie Plemons and Ciaran Hinds were nominated for Best Supporting Actor over Woody Norman? How is this possible? Coda won best picture over Power of the Dog? And as much as I love Jessica Chastain, Stewart and Kidman were more deserving of the best actress award this year. Chastain's victory seems more like a lifetime achievement award than it does a reflection of her work in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Furthermore, momentum should not determine a nominee's chances of winning but supporting Coda seemed like the hip thing to do as soon as The Power of the Dog's light began to dim after being celebrated as the frontrunner for months. Also, what's the point of watching the Oscars, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guilds if these voters clearly think the same repeatedly. The same people kept winning the same awards in their respective categories for each awards ceremony. Where is the diversity of thought? The politics of these awards shows is why film lovers have been gradually tuning out over the years; So many brilliant artistic achievements slip through the cracks while more mediocre works are revered!

Yeah you do know the producer of the French movie is involved in the American remake as a producer too right? Also incase you don't know, the French movie was highly criticzed for not having deaf actors to play deaf characters, because of that they got the sign language wrong. When they got the sign language wrong, that's where the film falls apart, atlleast for the French deaf community. Nevertheless it got nominated for 6 Cesar Award (France's Oscar) and CODA got 3 Oscar nominations and win. So yeah the original movie had enough recognition at their own country, so is CODA in their own country

I do think it was the right decision to keep this video to just talking about the awards. I think it has the unfortunate effect of being a “oscars reaction video” that is not reflective of what it was actually like to watch the show, but is instead what it should have been like. So thanks for being professional. This was the most disgraceful, unpleasant Oscars in history. Going in we already knew they weren’t prioritizing the film nerds. Cutting the categories didn’t seem that bad while watching the show, although some of the winners have already expressed disappointment at their speeches being cut. They “brought back” clips, but besides the acting highlights they were only three second excerpts while reading the nominees, no behind the scenes or effort to clue the audience into what the movie does to earn it’s nom like they’ve done in prior telecasts. The twitter awards hilariously backfired. Instead of uniting movie lovers, they confused everybody unfamiliar with movies like Minimata or Cinderella having rabid Stans. Nobody in the audience clapped after these clips and they were extremely awkward. Then the slap happened, which as bad as it was could have been saved since Rock seemed to own up to it, but then Smith started screaming and it immediately overshadowed any of the deserving winners for the rest of the night. Instead it became a nightmare waiting game for Will Smith’s Oscar speech, which was creepy and made matters worse. It was impossible to feel enthused watching the show even if you don’t care about celebrity drama, because the fallout continues for the rest of the night. It was like going to a party and then somebody pisses in the punch bowl; people just want to leave.
