2022 Ram Rebel G/T Review

*I misspoke on the tire and wheel size. The correct value is 275/70R18*
I jumped on the opportunity to test this Grand Tourer Ram Rebel with the V8 hemi and eTorque. It's a great all around truck, with plenty of power, towing capacity, and an excellent ride. It could use a bit more payload capacity, at 1320ish It's in the realm of a midsize truck.

The zero to 60 should be much quicker in tow mode as it holds the gears longer with different shift points

I haven't tried that for tow mode, but I doubt it makes a difference. I, and many others, have tested full throttle runs in sport mode vs normal mode and there isn't a difference at full throttle. Less than full throttle does provide for a different feel, and probably different acceleration times.

@@EngineAdventures tow mode changed shift points on transmission increasing torque to the wheels sport mode is more about stiffer steering suspension & in some cases opens valves in exhaust for improved sound in most cases especially on newer trucks you'll have a noticable difference as tow mode holds lower gears increasing rpm & changing lock points on torque converter id suggest trying it yourself both a run without tow mode & again with it you should be happily surprised

Console shifter is a must! It’s a sport truck! The turn dial to shift was Ridiculous and with all the storage in that truck removing the console shifter is senseless!! Dude enjoy the truck and the fact that they finally put a console shifter in there! It’s a great truck and I always wanted one myself but drove a dodge with a dial shifter for work and absolutely hated it, and I felt like a dork so I steered away it until I heard they were finally putting the console shifter in the 2022 model year and like a ton of other people out there who feel the same way are now looking to buy one! And don’t forget their going electric so this is possibly one of the last tough Dodge trucks we’ll see!!!!

And that's why Ram makes it! People want it, and that's great. Personally, I don't see any benefits to it as you put it in drive and don't really mess with it again until you put it in park. Manual transmissions are a different story, and there a stick makes sense. I'd rather have 6 seat capacity than a giant shift lever for an automatic. If you like it then 100% go for it! One of the best things about car culture is the diversity! I think aesthetically it looks better and honestly feels better to drive that way, but functionally it makes no sense.

Nice truck, I really enjoyed the video. I have question about air suspension, does it have any concern with them in term of reliability? As I am thinking to trade of with my Jeep Gladiator due to bigger room space and luxury as I am using it for commuting 80% - 90%, and for now some off-road during weekends, but I am not sure if I will regretted :). Another question, do you think GT is worth it over regular Rebel?

I don't care much for the GT, but that's just my opinion. Air suspension is strange because Semi trucks will go over a million miles with reliable air suspension. I know passenger vehicles are different with electric pumps instead of motor driven ones. I would expect at least 100k miles without problems.

Does the exhaust drone in an annoying way at highway speeds?

Just a bit when towing, you'd be fine even at max payload, but the extra wind resistance from a trailer can keep the truck down a gear on the transmission, making the engine rpms in the range where it drones.

I love the new Ram GT Rebel. Love the console alone. Yup just for that. I have a 2019 Longhorn and just love it. Just wish I had the console though and it would be the perfect truck. Cheers

Juat an FYI, Part of why you're not getting quite the gas mileage as you'd like is cause the gt package comes with the 3.92 rear end instead of the 3.21 it would normally come with

With the 8 speed I'm not sure how big of a difference it makes, but that is definitely something to consider. I have no idea what the EPA estimates are for (could be for a regular ram 1500 with the 3.21 and not the rebel with 3.92). Thanks for the input!!

There's one other camera besides the backup camera. There's a camera in the 3rd brake light on the cab. Flip the rearview mirror inside the truck and it will turn into a screen.

Really dont like the front end, lots of features but not worth $20,000 extra. Rather have column shift and bench seat for extra leg room. Lookin forward for off road test. Awesome review as always.

The cold air intake and exhaust system are a benefit. Also the GT has some additional standard features. Not saying you should or shouldn't get it, just that it's worth it for some people.

Many reasons, however it's more what you'll expect when you're actually driving. I could brake torque to build power for a better launch, but people don't do that in their normal daily driving.

It's tow rating is 11,224, and I was only towing 10,990 🙂. In reality this trailer was very low and stable, it was no problem for the truck. I do recommend only towing this much with a Rebel if you have decent experience in towing.

I see you're up to date on your Italian "Gran Turismo" means grand touring or grand tourer in English. I can't decide what grand tourer really means and neither can most manufacturers. Probably a luxury 2 door coupe that focuses more on smooth cruising at high speeds than on pure track performance.
