Welcome to day nine of Plantmas 2021! 🌿
Today I'm setting up my 2022 reading journal for tracking my reading in the new year! I've loved using my reading bujo this year to journal about my favourite books read and track stats and goals. Is there a spread I missed that would come in handy in my reading bullet journal? Let me know in the comments! 🥰
Watch all of the Plantmas videos here: • 🌿 PLANTMAS 2021 🌿
For the uninitiated, Plantmas is a series I do in December every year where I post a new video every day for the 12 days leading up to Christmas! It’s my version of vlogmas and it’s always a lot of fun 🥰 Make sure to turn on notifications so you don’t miss any giveaways, since they are only open for entry for 24 hours after posting ❤️

I think it would be really cool to have a spread that goes along with your bracket where you can jot down some thoughts on each of your potential favorites and why they made the list: if they made you think about new perspectives, if the plot took you on an especially emotional journey, etc

I am starting my first reading journal in a square A&O notebook too, and am finding that the number of grid spaces in this works so well with a lot of evenly spaced columns/rows. Loving it! Anyway, here's the list of spreads I've got planned so far, but would love to know what other spread ideas people have: -2022 new release calendar (formatted like a future log) -Book Bingo (I used this as a fun way to include stretch goals and challenges for myself, instead of a regular checklist) -30 before 30 (turning 30 this year... the same idea as 22 in 2022 but in a shorter time frame) -Book of the Month (for anyone who uses BotM - just keeping track of what each month's picks were, what I picked, and my add-ons) -Books & Lala's Literally Dead Book Club and Buzzwordathon Challenge (or whoever's else's book clubs you follow. just to see all the years picks on one page ) -A to Z reading challenge -Owned Backlist (in an effort to hold myself accountable to read the books I bought!) -Wishlist (putting this opposite of my backlist will hopefully discourage me from buying too many new books! maybe implement a reward system for finishing x amount of backlist books = 1 new wishlist book?) -Haul vs Unhaul list (tentative idea - but could help control the physical book intake) -Daily Reading Tracker (not sure how much I will actually like this yet....but going to try it) -Year at a glance stats (number of books read each month, fav book of month, etc)

some year-long spread suggestions that i use in my reading journal and that i find really useful: - a little calendar where i color/mark the days that i've read something to keep track - a book bingo that encourages me to read things that i don't usually read so i can complete it (for example: read an autobiography, read a 800 page book etc) - i also have a page for rereads to see what books i go back to

this looks great! I've been doing a reading page in my bullet journal every month that I call my 'monthly bookshelf' where I list all of the books I've read that month and include categories like publication year, author nationality, format or edition I read from, genre, etc. But seeing this setup definitely makes me want to dedicate a separate bullet journal for reading and include more spreads like these. Some other spread ideas: -a list of books that you want to reread this year -you could make like a bookshelf/library page with all the books you currently own (if you tend to get rid of books, you can do one bookshelf for all the books you have in your library at the beginning of the year and then another one for at the end of the year so you can see what books you've decided to keep or give away and what books you've added to your collection throughout the year)

Maybe a 'previous favorites' spead. Where you show your favorite books from previous years and/or your all time favorites. Or books you want to re-read. Really enjoying the cosy vibes in these videos!

I use a series tracker and a daily page count tracker (basically like a habit tracker where I color in a square based on the number of pages I read each day), and I find both of those spreads to be really helpful.

If you were looking for other spread ideas you could try a reading bingo, where you have a few different “challenges”, like read a romance, read an author from the UK, read a book from 1980. It can be a bingo of your choice and helps to broaden your book choices too!

What a gorgeous set up! And as for spread ideas I think it’d be nice to have one with all the information you usually put on your monthly reading logs (genres, authors ethnicities, audiobook/ebook/physical book, rating, etc) I personally think it’s nice to look back and see my year in books and how they reflect how I felt at the time

I really like using a series tracker in the front of my reading journal as well as a goals page. One thing I did that I absolutely couldn’t go without is a “master list”. It’s two full spreads where I list the title, author, page count, genre, source, rating, and date completed. It’s just a great place to dump info about the books even if I don’t have the time to write an entry for it. It’s also a great place to reference when it’s time to evaluate those yearly goals.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but maybe a book to adaptation spread? I'm the type of person who prefers to read the book before watching the movie/tv show, so this could be really useful in keeping track of what's being adapted that you might be interested in also watching. I also think it would be interesting to track authors. Sometimes I don't even realize how much I really like an author until I look back and see I've read ten different books by the same person over a surprisingly short period of time. It ends up being a timeline of what authors/genres/writing styles are coming in and out of "fashion" for my taste. It says a lot about where my mental space is at when I look at those periods.

I track a looooot of things in my reading journal, but I'm always looking for inspiraton. I've recently posted a flipthrough of my 2021 reading journal for my blog, in 2022 it will be my 4th year with a reading journal and I love it. Some ideas for year long trackers could be: - series I've finished (or made progress on). I read a lot of series, so this is always helpful for me. - audiobooks I listened to/loved. I personally pay for my audiobook service and so I find it nice to keep a track of how much Im using it and also just what books I really enjoyed listening to. - reading goals. I like having all of my thoughts about my goals in one place, otherwise I tend to forget about them. - reading challenges. I don't know if you're into those, but something like the A-Z challenge is always fun for me to fill out through the year. - a 5 star book list, where you can list all of the books you've given 5 stars to through the year. I love the book bracket idea, I might add that to my 2022 journal.

I am a Year 6 teacher and I know that kids these days don’t do as much arts and crafts at home. I am still teaching 11-12 year olds how to cut properly with scissors - they tend to just hack in any which way. Same with glueing things! Makes me sad. But I make up for it by doing lots of arts and crafts in my class. Also, Shadow of the Wind is an AMAZING book. X

I am also reducing my reading goal this year as a person who reads 100~ a year. Not because of the stress like you, but because I feel like racing to hit these big targets means that we don't have enough time to really consider what we read, digest it, and retain it! First year ever, I'm going to try and read 50 or less by reading slower and more thoughtfully

I think I’m gonna create a “kit” for special bujo decoration. A set of papers, washi tapes, stickers, pens, that go into one box and kept with the journal to continue adding to spreads with some boundaries, which can keep it beautiful and consistent without becoming overwhelming, and also push/encourage creativity. Thank you for the inspiration. This setup is lovely. 💕

In my bujo I have two spreads you minght consider. One is monthly tracker of the books I want to read each month (for me it's one classic, one book from a longer series, one non-fiction and one "reading the word" book). It helps me see how I'm doing with my goals in one place. Second one is any reading challenges you might want. For me its "reading the word", where I try to pick up stuff written by the authors of different nationalities, but It could be "reading women" prompts, or any prompts list you'll find on booktube or anywhere else.

I think another good tip about art journaling (which is kinda what you are doing) is to first and foremost, make it for yourself. Use what you like, experiment with new techniques, imitate things you see that make your eyes happy. Give yourself permission to make mistakes. If you have a page that turned out particularly well, go ahead and share it, but otherwise do it for yourself. Giving your self permission to fail and practicing are the two keys to artistic expression. And it doesn't have to be good to have value! Enjoy the time doing it and feed your soul!

This seems so fun to do. I’d love to make one of these someday. I like the idea of a series tracker. I also think a good spread idea would be one where you could retire down books that have been suggested to you. That way you don’t forget them and you can reference it for ideas when deciding what to read.

When I set up my reading journal for the year, I make a spread for all of the books that I own and haven’t read with a bubble next to them to check off when I read them, a series tracker, a bar graph of genres to color in when I finish a book, a bingo board type thing of book challenges, and a giant wish list of all of the books that I want to buy

So glad to find this video posted today while I was working on my own Reading Journal! I like to include series of books I'm interested in exploring during the year (novels/graphic novels/manga), a page for book recommendations I receive (as a librarian, I get a lot!), books I physically own that I haven't read yet, any book challenges I am participating in, and a Year in Review page where I keep track of how many books I've read in print/ audiobook/ ebook/ manga/ graphic novel per month - I put it at the beginning so I can see what category I'm favoring and if I want to try mixing it up the next month. I also create pages like you did in your video. It's a lot to set up, but I use them and have enjoyed being able to refer to them throughout the year! This year I've even added a verso page, just for fun :)

I don't have a reading journal, but I was thinking of adding a page in my bujo for "Characters I met in 2022" (in the books I read). I read a lot of classics and often its hard for me to remember the names of the minor characters. I thought a name, the book, and a sentence of description in a list format could be fun. It might be a nice addition to your Reading Journal, too.

I just got back into my bujo journal and completely started over now that I have a better idea of how to do spreads! I have two "book review journals" set up with just the title and author with the rest of the page blank for a photo of the book and my review for Goodreads. However, I was still looking for ideas on how to incorporate my reading into my bujo, and you gave me so many lovely ideas with this video! Now I'm a new subscriber!

I love my format tracker (physical, kindle, online and audio)! I did it through tallies this year but it could also be really cool to draw an empty bookshelf and colour-code the formats! I also love my rating pages, I stick each cover in a little "frame" with the star rating underneath, it's a really visual way of seeing the books I've read throughout the year! I do have a "series in progress" page as well, where I write all the series I'm in the middle of, plus some space for new ones! I write down each title and cross them out as I read them, which is really satisfying! I hope this might give you a few suggestions!

After getting the December subbox notebook last week, which is much closer to a square (8 x 10) than I'm used to, I finally understand the hype! It's been fun to use. I have an A5 I want to use as a reading journal though. I would definitely like to see more spreads as you make them! I think a series tracker, or recommendations list (if you get a lot) would be very very helpful, I always forget about series' names and to keep a lookout when the entire book list isn't out yet, and I keep having to look up the reading order. Having an overall stats page would help since you usually have your monthly stats - it's up to you if you want that at the end of the journal, though.

First, I have to comme t on the decor of the beginning of the bujo! I've thought of doing that with my journals, but honestly haven't even finished it lol. This is the second reading bujo I've seen today! I'm so thinking of doing one.

This looks absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the inspiration. Have you considered adding a genre tracker or challenge? I added this to my reading journal to get a better idea of what genre I really read throughout the year, and like the most. But also challenging myself to go out of my usual book genres and try out something different.

I like the square notebook, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to buy some yet. The spreads look really amazing and calm (as the reading itself is 🙂). Thank you Elizabeth for showing us your reading journal setup.

This encourages me to set up a reading journal in 2022. I have started a rather large series of Fantasy books which is something different for me. It will be a challenge and I would like to make notes and goal would be to do this series in 2022. Thanks for sharing as I am an avid reader thanks to my mother for reading to us a we grew up and gave me the gift of reading, it never grows old or boring. Suggestion for a spread is Authors, do you have any favorites? A spread on those who made made impact on your life? I feel books can impact my life as I love true stories the best but want to read all kinds of books vs one kind.

When you described how you don’t know what you’re doing when having all these materials beside you and just play around with everything, I felt that so much lol! That’s exactly why I just journal/scrapbook because making an actual yearly bujo, I’d have to plan and sketch the pages and I feel stressed bc I never know what to do 😅 But I was also wondering if you have a Pinterest with your dark and light academia aesthetic that I can follow and save as well.. or if you just search up dark academia and save whatever pops up, because that’s what I do 😩

@@PlantBasedBride I did. Do you take part in any challenges? This will be my first year doing one. I’ll do A to Z where I pick a book for every letter of the alphabet. I like you 22 books in 2022 book spread. That a good twist.
