I find the Meteor 350 more to my taste than the Classic, but they're both smooth, beautiful bikes. More important - and as others have commented - too many reviewers characterize both these bikes as being for "beginners." Wake the eff up, reviewers! I've been riding for 50+ years, and have sold my HD and my Victory Kingpin. Why? Because I don't need a massive, loud machine anymore. The RE Classic (or Meteor) let me get back to simpler, easier riding. What's so hard to understand about that, unless you're still addicted to "impressing" everybody with your screaming, roaring engines?

Well posted. This bike spans across the spectrum in all nations. It's for woke hypsters who live downtown. Frugal Libertarians who drive a logging truck. The 75 year old who wants to ride again. A gateway bike that a father buys for their teenager. And it's the 4th bike in the stable for many. What makes it possible is the... Price Looks Engine character Handling Service Ability Pedigree I'm actually torn between this and the cruiser 350. Note, the dealership network is getting better in the USA. I'm 60 miles away from one. Not bad.

I have two machines in the garage now -- a 2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan and an aging, 2006 Vespa GTS 250. The Himalayan is a dream on the many backroad dirt and gravel paths where I live, and the Vespa has been great for pavement adventures. I've been so impressed with the Himalayan that my eye has started to wander to the Meteor, Interceptor, and now the Classic 350. Perhaps it's what I need when the Vespa gives up the ghost. It's at 44K miles now and still going strong but one day... I think the RE line offers not just an entry-level ride, but also a ride for those of us at the other end of the spectrum that are looking at advancing years and a desire for something lighter and less twitchy on the throttle. I don't need something that I can lift the front wheel off the ground with the flick of my wrist. I want something "soft" and comfortable to ride. The Classic 350 might do the trick.

I started riding bikes back in the 60's and this is what motorcycling is really about. Why do you need a tach? Learn to feel the engine, read the road and adjust accordingly and stop relying on gimmicks. A proper motorcycle without rider aids, engine modes, a plethora of electronics etc etc. Learn to ride, to become one with the bike. That's real fun riding, that's real riding. But having said that, to each their own and if a plastic fantastic turns you on. if you're a speed freak so be it, just ride safe. Regards

I don't think they judge them wrong --- there's plenty of retro offerings with mild power that are just better. A used japanese small cc is just going to be better than a new RE in every category. And if you want a good retro there's many, many offerings even like the Kawasaki W800 and it's not like that's a fast bike or will scare off a new rider lol. Honda Rebel 500 used can be found 1000 cheaper than this new etc and its not going to rust or struggle on basic highway speeds.

@@englishsteel-nz6im Rebel 500 is not comparable to this bike. I believe you judged my comment wrong. I’m saying there are bikes that you would choose, then bikes others would find appealing. It’s about choice and thankfully not everyone has the same taste, bc it would be a boring world seeing everyone on a Rebel 500. I could see this being a decent, low cost option for someone just wanting to ride. RE has stepped up the manufacturing quality, look up Ryan FortNine’s video. RE actually had the best testing on trash/wear left during/after manufacturing. Something like 1st oil change comparison.

@@freebehindbars8654 its all comparable. Most bikes on the road are mild bikes actually of some kind-- I see more 400-650cc than anything else in CA and lots of mild cruisers and adv's and so on. Most people indeed want just a cool little fun bike and not something big or fast.... but where these RE fail are rusting, component quality and bolts and rubber coming loose very fast. The engine's may be solid now but the rest of it is not and despite power not being a big concern in this class of bike-- 20 HP vs your average 35-40 HP for your Japanese small CC is a notable difference and none of it's powerful to begin with so enough to highway safely is noted by me. I see no value in these REs and the Himalayan is particularly bad even tho it's cheap. A used DRZ400 > Himalayan. Himalayan retails at 4500-5k here... I mean a brand new KLR650 retails at 6500, a used one with low miles for the same cost as a new Himalayan. I just don't see the attraction.

Well said. A lot to be said for an inexpensive, affordable bike with a single cylinder. The engine has been modernised with counterbalancers to eliminate harsh vibration. The bike has brisk,adequate performance for a country of origin where that,cost,reliability and quality are the main requirements. Also a bike that's easy and inexpensive to maintain.

I walked in the HE dealership only because it was on the way to Aprillia dealership, just to kill time. I saw Classic in military green and really liked it. My wife did too. We talked about it 10-15 minutes and asked the sales guy if it could be ready before closing, 1.5 hours left. It was tight but, rode it back home. Things happen when most unexpected. Now I need to sell one of other four.

Perfect classic styling. It may be aimed at young riders, but some of us older and more experienced riders, who are looking for something easier to wrestle around with our arthritic bodies, could find this bike perfect. Since I live out here in the wide open and wild west, I'd like a few more horses to haul my butt down the road at 75 with ease. Maybe a 450 or 500 cc version would better fit the bill for guys like me.

On paper, it doesn't sound like much but you'll be surprised how well that little engine performs. You're right about it needing 10-15+ hp for the highways, but i'll recommend taking one for a test ride before making up your mind. Cheers

I own a classic 350 since 2019, its a carburated engine. And the thing is it does not heat up that much to require liquid cooling. Never have I ever been uncomfortable due to excess heat in all these years on my motorcycle. Its just so easy !

My ‘23 Halcyon green classic is an enjoyable ride; used appropriately it’s been a great bike. Seems to be bulletproof in build quality too. Thumping along at 50mph in the rolling farmlands of N IL and S WI has been a real pleasure. Money well spent.

Fuelling is definitely not abrupt on the J series engine, Royal Enfield have absolutely nailed that fuel injection, smooth as silk on mine.

First of all. It's a great looking classic bike. 2nd. 20bhp Is great for smaller freeway and city riding. But like 80% of the US major highways, it's not going to cut it. It needs to have a min +35HP. Having no extra power on the highway for takeover is extremely nerving The weight is great for highway winds and turbulence but it's lacking in extra power. Maybe someone will have a bigger bore kit for the single cylinder. Either way the Classic 350 is one of 3 options for me if I can get the Signal Grey color scheme. Rebel 500SE and Meteor 350 Stellar Blue are my other options..

RE should make bigger Engine with same Classi Retro design with minimal features, so that its Riders will feel the real thrill of Bike riding. Dealerships are rare here....and models are limited to what the dealer ordered.....I have a Bronze and Chrome here in N.E. Arkansas, but had to go to a Memphis HD dealership as it's the closest..with a small portion of it's showroom carved out for Royal Enfield.

The 500 has more power and that is a plus for it. However it shakes and vibrates enough to make your hands n feet tingle and become quite unhappy. The new 350 is smooth. The issue for me is that the new 350 bike is not freeway fast. It has enough (just) power for city riding and up to 55 on the B roads. It can do 70 in good conditions but it would be thrashing it to cruise at 70. It will slow down to 60 or less with a strong headwind or any decent hill. It is not going to overtake with any urgency at these upper speeds. The 500 will do 70 consistently and can overtake in reasonable time at these speeds. BUT the 500 is quite uncomfortably viby doing that higher speed so few can cruise it at the higher speeds for long. So if you are okay at 55mph cruise for any longer trip then the 350 will be fine for that. If you are tough and don't care about the vibrations the 500 might be your thing.

The 350 is smoother and the 500 is both noticeably faster in top end and accelerates noticeable harder. As to useable power?? don't know what that term means in this context. I suspect if you are vibration sensitive you wont ride the 500 fast? Maybe? However: 500cc engine 27.2 hp @5250 rpm and peak torque of 41.3 Nm @4000 rpm. 350cc engine 20.2 bhp @ 6100 rpm: Maximum Torque: 27 Nm @ 4000 rpm Physics and size matters.

Yeah... that's what I'm thinking. I'm on a vintage Honda twin they haven't made in a long time that I logged 60k mi on in 6 years. Still mostly feels new but it blew an oil seal at 50k and another one at 55k....$100 repairs but that's a royal pain on a mountaintop somewhere. However my CB250 gets 19hp and is as smooth as a sewing machine. Most of the compliments are a bit left handed in this review. Clunky shifter, only 5sp, no guts after say 50mph, no tach so mysteries abound as to where its weak range is, harsh jerky but humble throttle, low seat, thumpy motor. I just looked at a Desert Sand one with 30 miles on it (bought at auction in Dec)at a local dealer willing to dump it at $3700 + fees. I wish it had a Yamaha 330cc twin in it that made 39hp. I can't see 20 HP on a 420lb bike with a 350. It would probably struggle to teach 65mph. Too bad really because the ergonomics look really good. Think I'll buy an MT03 or CB500 instead.

5 more HP would have made a world of difference on the highway. Royal Enfield is really underpowering their engines to save on cost to keep it air and oil cooled. Saying that the engine can easily put out another 5hp without any changes in cooling or transmission. 5 HP would have made highway driving not really an issue... I bet a firmware change is all that is needed to get the extra 5HP or more... I got the INT650 and the bike is Amazing but if the 350cc had just a little more HP i would have got one of those...

I have looked at one just this past week. I don't think a 6'7" rider is going to be real happy with the handlebar/footpeg/seat triangle. It's just not than big physically. But I'd love to try one out, being 5'7". It's a very attractive motorcycle.

The 350 is not a particularly quick bike, so you'll basically know in which gear you are depending on the speed: like if you're doing around 50mph (/90 kmh) you will most likely be in 5th gear. On bigger bikes without a gear indicator (like my Yamaha XJR1300 - which can achieve pretty hefty speeds from 2nd gear onwards) you will have to rely on a combination of speed and number of revs to know which gear you're in. But that's not your case :)

My daughter has this exact bike (Well, may not the exact one but same color scheme). While the bike is not mine I do ride it from time to time, you know, to keep the battery charged and the tires inflated while she is waiting on her lower seat to come in the mail. A father's got to do what a father's got to do! I would have to say I disagree with some of the things this guy has said.... The guy my daughter bought it from weighed about 275-300 pounds. He never bottomed the bike out. I weigh 200 pounds and I haven't come close to bottoming it out on speed bumps or pot holes in the road. In fact, it rides better than my '99 Goldwing. As for the clutch - maybe his clutch is not adjusted properly? There is no squishiness or anything other than very smooth shifting with her bike. As for the weight - it might weigh that much, I don't know, but the bike feels like a feather and handles better than a moped and turns on a dime. It feels extremely balanced and light and changes direction with ridiculous ease and precision. Its almost as if it were on rails. Brakes- I'm sorry but he is way wrong on this one. Brakes are extremely good. So good in fact I can get within inches of a car bumper while braking or giving it the gas and never worry about hit hitting the car. I accidentally did that when I was changing lanes in a line of busy cars. It was very responsive and did everything I asked it to do. It has no problems at all stopping quickly. I honestly think the brakes are so strong that If I were inclined to I could lift up the rear end by hitting too much of the front brake but then again, that would be a bad thing but they are very adequate and capable. Low end Torque - he didn't say much about this so I don't care if it only has 20 horsepower. It has enough torque to keep up with cars and even go around a few. Since I am also prone to motion sickness, I feel it in the pit of my stomach when I get off the bike. He is right though about it attracting attention. Pulled up at a store to take a small break. In less then 20 seconds a guy walks over and asked me about the bike. But I will say that normally these bikes are not coming with the above seat. They come with thicker seats so a person 5-4 or less (maybe even 5-5) will have problems touching the ground because of how thick the seat is. The above bike has the lower seat which does not sit the rider as high so yeah, of course, a 5-4 person can sit on it. My daughter is 5-4 and she cannot reach the ground at all with her current seat. She had to order the lowered seat like the one in this video. Oh yeah. One more thing. I have no idea why he says this but the bike is NOT jerky letting on and off the throttle. I would suggest that his throttle is not adjusted either. My brother adjusted the clutch and the throttle and they work very well. Perhaps he has not ridden it or does not know it needs adjusting? Dunno. This bike is just as smooth getting on and off the throttle, maybe smoother?, as my Goldwing with 6 cylinders and a much more powerful engine. I am very impressed with this bike. Its solid as a rock and rides like its on rails. The bike is so responsive in handling that, in my opinion, beginners should have no problems avoiding accidents with other cars. It's so responsive its almost as if it is part of your body and that is something to be said about a motorcycle.

I love the design of this bike. I love the price too. Unfortunately, the engine is too weak. At least for Europe. I guess it's fine for India. You cannot have top speed of 115 km/h. Simply not practical. If they make a version with 15-20 hp extra, I would gladly pay 1000 euro on top, to buy an usable machine.

Interceptor 650 twin from RE stable offers 45+ odd hp, tops out at 170-180kmph with comfortable crise speed at 140+kmph, and costs may be a 1500 bucks more on top.

These RE bikes suck-- they're cheap for a reason. The engine's are decently reliable but they rust and the components loosen up fast and become rattle prone. Plus, holy hell they're slow even by small bike standards--- for same price just get a 400-500cc used japanese bike.

I think all things considered, power is the function of torque and gearing is simply an additional layer of torque distribution, or rather letting the engine stay at the ideal rpms for the proposed speed for the produced torque. Surely the assumption is torque vs rpm without the consideration of gearing whatsoever but also these long stroke motors gearboxes are generally designated to not produce power at the expense of torque and thus the spread in the gearing is a lot more wider than short stroke criers which will pop and die because of the gearing and torque.. well it's not omnipresent unless it's an 800 or something. But these long strokes from royal Enfields usually makes up for the unavailability of high rpms with a good selection of gear choices to make the motor feel tractable at nearly all rpms and all gears Maybe the 5th gear would be an exception to some extent. Just sayin the torque imbalance is not as apparent as small short strokes.

@@arunvignesh7015 You make it all too complicated. When fuel burns, it makes power. It makes power at low rpms. It makes power at middle rpms, it makes power at high rpms, it makes power at ALL rpms across the rev range. Fuel is not torquey. When you use the power to turn a crank or a wrench or anything else with a handle that spins something, it applies a torque to that thing. The only thing a rider cares about is the torque to our rear tire as that is where it matters. The torque on spec sheets IS NOT at the rear tire. It's a calculation of the engine's crank torque based on the power read by a dyno. Meaningless. People think torque has something to do with acceleration, but it does not. You can apply a 50 ft*lb torque to a bolt that requires 60 ft*lb to spin and the bolt will not spin. Torque is simply the power made by the burning fuel divided by the rpm of whatever that power is spinning. Nothing in the engine changes when you shift gears. The engine makes power across the rev range regardless of the gear your in. What changes is the torque and the rpm. First gear provides high torque & low rpm to get the mass moving. Sixth gear provides low torque & high rpm to keep the mass moving. Think of your bicycle. Easy to pedal in first gear to get you going with the power from your legs. That's because that gear converts that power to high torque & low rpm. Tenth gear is hard to pedal, but provided the same power from your legs, you can go much faster. Ever hear a bicyclist call himself "torquey?" Why not, he's the engine? What we feel is acceleration. Why moto journalists can't just say that a bike accelerates well or poorly has always amazed me. Instead, they tell us about a calculation of the engine crank's peak torque they read about. They give everyone some kooky idea about physics that engines provide torque at low rpms and then it turns into power at high rpms. Utter nonsense.

@saddlebag Well I am not that well adept with technicalities but I think what it means that this is a bike that is meant for higher gear at lower RPMs rides which is down to the superb low end torque. After all it’s a long stroke motor and the initial gears are short to make it happen. Of course it’s not a hustler and revvs out at 6K+ RPMs. I have a G310R with similar torque (28 NM) but it requires revvs to have fun while the Classic happily chugs at low-mid RPMs without revving out the motor.
