Agreed! The Heel-toe-shifter was one of the sellingpoints for me. I was considering the Kawasaki Vulcan S, but realized I would have had to install a heel-toe-shifter, a USB charger, a gear indicator, a center stand, a pillion backrest, a new seat and a new exhaust for it to meet my expectations. The meteor 350 meets all those expectations right off the showroom. Obviously the Super Meteor 650 is the perfect contender, but it's hard to argue with the price of the 350

One of the best reviews on you tube....and I've seen a lot on the Meteor. I took a yellow Fireball out a couple of days ago. Rode over on my SV650S and expected the switch to the Enfield to show any relative deficiencies. The Meteor pulls well and certainly doesn't feel gutless. The 20HP is compressed down to what you are legally allowed to use on UK roads and who needs to go much above 70mph on a naked bike anyway. Gear shift feels odd but you get used to it. Unless you have abnormally small feet don't 't even think of using your toe under the front shifter. Yes it's odd but brings a fun dimension to the standard shifting technique. Seating position is nice but take it over a surface with ruts or dips and the as you quite rightly showed: the energy from the shocker seems to go in a straight line up your back. On the SV the wrists take more weight and you never feel this kind of shock up the back. For this kind of bike it handles Well, much better than the Kawasaki W650 retro that needs several months notice before it will consider turning into a corner. Actually it handles pretty well and the traditional rear shocks can be felt squirming when you push it a little. I'm used to looking forward in to mirrors but the Meteor ones are so close the rider you need to lean back a bit.....maybe I'm to used to a sportier riding position. I also expected the exhaust to sound anaemic compared to my v twin with street legal FUEL silencer but no...it sounds awesome, so much so I asked the dealer if he had the original pipe on it. He did. Wow. I also agree that the clutch lever is easy to use and not stiff at all. Overall this looks like a quality machine, it rides great given the price point and sounds lovely but most importantly it is a fun machine that put a smile on my face, in fact I laughed out loud when I experienced the exhaust tune. The only thing I would change is the rear shocks, I'm not picky or a tuner but they need to be better at taking, well, shocks really. Would this put me off buying one? Absolutely not, it is superb for the price, a bike with character and that thing one often seeks out, a soul. I'm thinking of getting one. Great job Royal Enfield!

Agreed Tony. It just took a bit of getting used to and after all the shifting method is not without precedent. The American made Harley-Davidsons have had that same heel toe shifter on some models. But I'd have to agree though that the fuel filler cap would have been nice if it had been machined out of metal.

That heel/toe shifter is the most widely used shift mechanism in the world , being on every Honda Cub ever made and being on all the RE 350 and 500 Classics for all time. Imagine how many people have died trying to get their toe under or over a rubber peg just before they crashed. The heel/toe shifter eliminates the fiddling and hunting for the lever.

As a rider of old Brit bikes I'm intrigued by this bike. Seems kinda' like RE have gone from the 50's to the 70's in their design. A good thing in my opinion as that balancer shaft must be a big plus over the old bullet models. However, and I appreciate it comes with the territory, so to speak. The twin shock rear end I would imagine would limit it. You did elude to it and as I also own a Honda NC750S and Triumph Street Twin. The thing that makes me want to ride the Honda, if doing any distance, is the better rear suspension. Apart from that, I do like the idea of a small light bike that you don't need to rev the nuts off. Thanks for the honest review.

Hi, to answer your question, yes I did take to it, but I am further down the biking road. 4 years ago I would have bought this quite possiably, but at the moment I need some with a bit more power. Yes suspension was a harsh but it's still fine for road riding. The NC suspension is just OK but a bit budgety I find. Not sure about your thoughts on that. Over all as a third bike for you I think it could work. It will be a plodder though and a relaxing time rather than a bike that makes you feel your covering grojnd to get there on time.. Royal Enfields always make time stand still⌚👍🍻

A good review of what seems like a good little bike. I realise the cast wheels are there because it's primarily aimed at the Indian home market, who've been crying out for cast wheels on every new bike as they allow tubeless 'repair a puncture by the roadside' tyres, but I wish it had the prettier wire wheels instead. The heel and toe shift are to accommodate flip-flop wearing Indian riders too, I'm sure … The bike wasn't intended as an export bike, but as a replacement for the top selling (in India) 350cc Bullet and Thunderbird models. Shame too about all the blacked out bits… engine, exhaust and bars in particular… on the base model, which I think is the best looking of all the variants. I think I'll stick with my Interceptor.

As someone else brought out in another review, the heel/toe shifter may have been for RE's Indian, home market. In India, many people ride in their sandals, so the heel/toe shifter would be better for them. As a Meteor owner, the shifter took a bit of getting used to, but now, I like it.

I love doing 1000+ mile trips on B roads with overnight hotel stays (through Switzerland, Germany, France, Luxemburg, Belgium and Holland). I think this bike would be lovely for that, might get one actually. Would be a step up from the 110cc 8hp I used on my last multiday trip...

Sounds great fun, 110cc is so good because you get to see everything without whizzing past

Hi great review, really fancy getting one of these bike. Could I just ask did the bike feel to struggle at 70 or did it get there and comfortably stay at 70. Not a speed demon, but on odd occasions that you need to use motorway or dual carriageway nice to keep up with traffic and not feel abit vulnerable.
@exeterrider3 жыл бұрын
Yeap, as I guess you may already know it is rescricted to 71, I felt if it wasn't then it could get to 83ish I expect. It does hold well at 70 and dosent feel like your stressing the engine 👍

Thanks for the great review. I will be getting my A2 license in a few years and am really loving the look and sound of this bike. If you ride in India wearing sandals (normal motorcycle footwear), then the heel and toe shift makes perfect sense. They also only provide a right hand pannier only, again due to Indian bikes having sari guards on the left by law. Looks like India will be the biggest market for these.

I have been waiting for a bike like this for a while,most 125cc bikes are just a bit lacking in power for my needs but this bike will plod along nicely at 65/70 mph and hopefully give good fuel economy,but to make it a true commuter bike would I be able to fit a back box ?
@exeterrider3 жыл бұрын
Yes Jason, I have been waiting too! Topboxes..... Not yet, from my experience it takes about 6 months to a year for one of the manufacters to come up with a frame or design for a rack. I would just make something myself or get saddlebags may be?

Ayup! Great review, really interesting bike, I do like the base version quite a lot. It does seem quite refined over a bullet with a lot less vibrations. I think for the money it's brilliant. If I didn't have a bullet I would really consider something like this. I've been watching the reviews out in India since last year and it's been very positive. Take care and ride safe mate 😊🙏

Hi Quinn, Yes- As we both know the Bullet is a very special bike. This is totally different, it's great not having the vibes but you may miss the torque that you get from the 500 maybe?!

What a nice looking bike. Sounds beautiful. I envision this having a high scrambler exhaust, like the Triumph 250 of 1970. A few mods and you have something evocative. Glad they kept the analog speedo. Seems right at home on those winding English roads. Not so amidst the insane Southern California drivers.
