In this video, I'll show you various places that I've bought some of my favorite seeds online. My favorite place to get seeds is Baker's Creek, but I've also purchased seeds from MIGardener, Kitagawa Seeds, Hudson Valley Seeds and Amazon as well. Below are links to the sites in case there is something you saw in the video that you may want to try growing. I'm not sponsored by these companies, they just offer products that I like growing in my garden.

MIGardener migardener.com
Kitagawa Seed Company kitazawaseed.com
Hudson Valley Seed Company hudsonvalleyse...

Unfortunately, I have a 72 inch TV and have paid for cable for 3 years but haven't turned the TV on in 2 years LOL. I have no time. But I don't believe we have HBO at all in our plan.

Where is the best place to buy seeds for dwarf vegetables? I checked your favorite seed company but nothing came up in their search bar under "dwarf vegetable." Mahalo

It's hard to find a place that sells a bunch of them. Gotta look around and buy here and there. Got my dwarf corn from Hudson Valley Seeds and dwarf tomato from Bakerscreek but you have to read the description to see if they're dwarf. I believe the dwarf at Bakers Creek is sold out by now. Also if you search "dwarf" on Bakers Creek many dwarf veggies and flowers come up...Victory Seeds has a bunch of dwarf tomatoes.

Aloha Misty, this was very interesting to watch. Reminded me of my late Dad, his passion was growing vegetable plants right from seed, a real labor of love. He used part of our backyard as his garden and a small area for him making compost to fertilize the plants. What type of fertilizers do you use for your plants?

Thanks for sharing that memory of your dad. How wonderful that he planted in your backyard. I'll go over fertilizers I use in another video.

How come my posts re locally adapted seeds are deleted?
@HawaiiUrbanGardener
@HawaiiUrbanGardener 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. Never seen those posts. I did notice that YT says I had 5 comments but I could only see 3 at the time. KZbin always does that to me, even on Food Fiend where I addressed that I'm not ignoring you or deleting comments. I checked the inbox where comments are on hold and none in there too. I know YT automatically deletes some comments with dollar signs, accidental grammar errors with a period after a sentence and a letter (it thinks it's a website) and web addresses.

These are some of my favorites as well! I also sometimes order from sellers on Etsy and have had relatively good luck with that. Trade Winds Fruit is great too however, I believe the majority of their seeds are trees/larger plants (though they do have some seeds for veggies too). I definitely related to the seed hoarder comment. I started a spreadsheet for mine a year or two ago and have like 690 something on the sheet and probably another 20-30 or so packs on my desk that I need to add still. I know I have a problem, ok?! hahaha

Wow! What an amazing collection! You're very organized because I just throw them in a big storage bin. LOL Thanks for the etsy and Trade Winds Fruit tips!

Great assortment of amazing looking veg & flowers seeds. Kitazawa is a local seed company (headquarters located in Nor Cal), I was looking over it's seed catalog a few years ago (before I had to treat for subterranean termites, no growing directly in the ground for the next several years). Thx for sharing!

Just out of curiosity, how did you treat your property for subterranean termites? Did you have to have professionals come out? I purchased my house (in northern central FL) a little over 2 years ago and those jerks are the bane of my existence. They 're all over my property. They eat any type of root I try to grow and eat holes into my fabric bags. Even planting in containers doesn't help because they just move in there. Weirdly though, my neighbor says they haven't dealt with this (and they garden too)...

@@AerFaery I'm not sure what H M did, but I live in a townhouse so they pay for monthly treatment. They put some poison in the ground through this green permanent plastic thing they put in the ground that blends in with the grass. An exterminator comes every month to check it and refills if necessary.

@@AerFaery - hi, I just saw your question, the pest control people used Termidor SC (or something like that), he said it will last for 10 years & not to use the lemons or limes for that time

If you have enough room, a kiddie pool with drain holes drilled in bottom and sides work really well as long as you have a good mix of potting mix, perlite, coconut coir and fertilizer. City Mill has them in different heights. Because of the lip on the kiddie pool, the slugs and snails can't get into the vegetables. New Kuroda carrots are "the best."
@HawaiiUrbanGardener

Mahalo for the suggestion but no room for kiddie pools in my space. It's so narrow. 😔

Ok im gonna ask a dumb question. How long are the seeds are good for before you have to throw them away. Or are they just forever good. 🤔
@HawaiiUrbanGardener
@HawaiiUrbanGardener 2 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question. Usually they say seeds will last from 2 to three years max. But MIGardener bought a framed seed packet at a garage sale from the 1930s and tried to grow tomatoes out of them and some of them sprouted. So I think they will last a long time as long as you keep them in a dry, sealed and dark place. I put mine in a small storage bin in the pantry.

I recently planted some cucumber seeds with a 2013 date on them expecting low to non-existent germination and I think I almost all of them came up (planted something like 9-10 and only 1 didn't grow)
