2022 Subaru WRX - Cobb Shift Plate Install

Today I cover installing the Cobb shift plate along with Perring shift bushing. This plate helps shorten the total shift length by up to a reported 35%. Links to product below.

Oooo bro your going love this mod! The shifter was the first mod I focused on when I got my 22 WRX in oct 2022. Immediately got the shift stop, shifter bushing and cobb shifter plate. Originally I set the pin on cobb plate to 35% with stock shifter. Felt good, though this being my first manuel, after a few months I desired shorter throws. I Installed the billetworkz STS and stupidly didn't think to adjust the cobb SP pin🤦‍♂. That was a total of 70% reduction 😳 It was crazy short to the point where I had to slow down my shifts to allow the sincros to line up, also incedabilby notchy and required some force to move the stick. Moronically I drove it like that for 9 months likely done irreversible damage to my transmission 😣 until I was looking YT videos specifically on how to shift correctly on the 22 wrx as you could imagine at that setting the herky jerky shifting was so hard to smooth out and read in the comments that 15% short throw by ether the STI STS or cobb plate was where it was at. The light bulb clicked 😂and I moved the cobb plate pin to the 15% spot. 50% reduction at that point the jerky shifts and feel of throws were slightly improved requiring less "muscle" to get into gear yet still noticeable notchy. Though being a small guy at 5"8" I needed to lean forward to get it into 5th with the smaller shaft height of the billetworkz STS. I never liked the shorter height of the stick, the next week I took out the billetworkz STS and reinstalled the OEM shifter keeping the cobb plate at 15%. OMG! that was the money setting for me! Instantaneously my shifts wear smooth as butter. The car feels much more happier at 15% reduction, gives ample time for the sincros to line up while still being able to shift fast with the stock shaft height creating more leverage as it requires less effort on my part being able throw the stick around with as little as one finger compared to needing my entire palm around the knob with force to get it into gear when the billetworks STS was in. I'm probably the only 22 WRX owner who has tried 15-35-50-70% reduction LMAO!🤣 Sorry for rambling on here but people learn from stupidity and don't go 70% IMO Maximum 50%, though that's still xtreme for the WRX transmission. In the end it's all about what feels comfortable to you. For me, OEM shifter, shift stop, perrin shift bushing & Cobb shift plate @ 15%. 🤙

For me getting that pin back in was the biggest pain. How am I supposed to knock the pin back in if I can't see whether its lined up with the hole or not?!

I noticed when you were rowing through the gears you seem to get resistance going into 6th. Have you experienced this while driving?

Yea 4th 6th and R seem to have a bit more resistance than before. Like noticeable but not problematic.

how did you jack up the front end? i see you backed it up on ramps in the rear. i couldnt find a good jack point especially since the suspension bottomed out

The pinch welds on the sides. That is the designated lift site. Once I jack it up I use a jack stand. Then I move to the opposite side and do the same.

@@Flatline_WRX do you use the special pinch weld attatchment for the jack? pinch welds just seems like they could bend easily

It’s really not that much more effort honestly but the shifting is way better. Like when I get in now and drive it feels great

Nothing can void your warranty. The dealership has to prove that X part installed caused a failure.
