I've owned my '22 Premium for about 9 months now. I don't drive it everyday- I just hit 2800 mi today. Fun car and my first Subie. I've had none of problems mentioned in this video. As far as the info screen- I only listen to the radio occasionally and use the climate controls- everything else I don't care about. I'd rather listen to the ETS exhaust I installed anyways. Good luck to everyone.

I've driven this car more than I thought I would in the last year or so. I do all the maintenance and have only used OE filters and Mobil 1 oil every 3000 miles. I've run maybe a dozen SCCA AutoX events in this car so far. I just turned over 38,000 miles on it today in fact. How much longer until the RTV clogged engine (still under warranty) blows up?

I’ve had my 22 premium 6-speed WRX in black since July and have over 12k miles. The infotainment system is the biggest issue. I’ve updated the software and it didn’t help. It’s overall glitchy, but the real problem is CarPlay disconnects and reconnects - doesn’t drop the call, but you can’t hear the person on the other end for about 10 seconds until it reconnects. My dad bought a 22 outback when I got my WRX and he has infotainment issues too. I’ve had the starting issue, but only happened 3 times when almost new then never again. It always immediately restarted after the failed attempt. Some rattles yes, but seem to be weather dependent and have subsided as they car breaks in (the overall build quality is pretty solid). No issues with the fuel door, it works perfectly every time. Absolutely love this WRX even with these minor issues, it’s the perfect daily driver for me in NY - comfortable enough even with a 120 mile/day round trip commute 3 days a week. I put a set of vredestein wintrac pros on a set of enkei PX-10s and it’s unstoppable in the snow.

Half year in with my 22 WRX. Can confirm that infotainment is a problem. I don’t really use CarPlay but for the couple times I use it. Had one freeze to the point that the music freeze and just keep making the same tone with Apple CarPlay. Had 2-3 times phone disconnects and reconnects itself with the infotainment system. Everything else so far it’s okay.

A bunch of cars are having the freezing infotainment issues. I'm pretty sure its the apple car play. My last two cars have froze when my wife would connect her iPhone with a failing lightning cable. Glad to know a couple of these aren't just random occurrences on my car. My mom and I both have one, she hasn't had issues with the car not starting but I have multiple times. Both our infotainment systems have shit themselves multiple times. Mine sometimes likes randomly lunging forward and back at low speeds with no means of triggering it. 1st or 2nd gear between 5 to 25 mph it happens randomly.

Mine was one of the first off the assembly line, took delivery mid-April 2022. Mine had the cranking issue and there is a TSB for a software update to the ECU to fix it. Haven’t had the gas door issue. Mine had an improperly installed windshield from the factory that in colder weather would creak and pop like crazy! Luckily after Subaru engineers looked at it, they replaced the windshield. I did have a bad rattle in the headliner that sounded like a loose bracket, I eventually dropped the headliner myself and found a sunroof bold not tight and the washer would bounce around. I do get dash rattles over uneven pavement that I may try to sold with felt tape. Even the GR Corolla has reports of lots of rattles so I think it’s just the nature of economy cars turned performance cars. Overall I’m happy with my WRX.

I've had a 2022 Premium since June. Glad to see that the infotainment issues are not just me. What's not mentioned is that the USB ports below the screen also shut off when the screen shuts off, which can be annoying if you have anything plugged in (I have a dashcam plugged in here until I find time to hardwire it in). Since June, my screen has "failed" three times and has turned back on 5-10 miles down the road. My biggest worry with the screen turning off is not the A/C or Heat, but rather my heated seat! When it's cold in the morning, I like to turn it on to the lowest setting but I still find myself turning it off eventually. On one of my screen "failures," I was stuck for 10 minutes with a burning rear end! No issues with the gas door yet. I live in Colorado and have had a few icey fillups. I have had ignition issues twice. I thought I had not pushed the clutch all the way in, but after seeing this I have had the issue as well. Luckily not often. Lastly, about the engine failures in the BRZ, why aren't Ascents failing? Why aren't Legacy or Outback XTs failing? I know it's scary to hear the BRZ is having issues, but maybe it's a FA24 issue and not a FA24T issue.
@AutoEnthusiast
@AutoEnthusiast Жыл бұрын
Oof sorry to hear you have been dealing with all the issues! As for the engine failing, my off the cuff answer is you might be on to something, but also they are driven and tuned very differently. Like in the BRZ, the WRX is tuned for performance, and their driving conditions are much different. It's hard to pin point, but we have seen other engines fail in past history with other cars simply because they were being driven too hard and outside of the design standards from the manufacturer. Sounds silly, but has happened with a fair amount of USDM and KDM engines.
@Fordster22
@Fordster22 Жыл бұрын
@@AutoEnthusiast The small issues I've had luckily do not outweigh how much fun this car is to me! It's a great, fun daily driver that fits what I want. I can definitely agree with your comment relating to different driving styles and tuning. I don't think people drive their Ascents like I drive my WRX haha! A quick note about the Infotainment system: My sales guy said they were expecting Subaru to release wireless Infotainment systems for 22 WRXs sometime mid-2023. He said Subaru would reach out and we could get them swapped out under warranty. This means we will be able to use CarPlay/Android Auto without a cable. Hopefully when they roll these out, the bugs will be resolved? Fingers crossed.

The subaru ascent has the fa24dit. I've heard of 3 people having this exact failure. Rtv in the pickup line. I just changed my ascents oil at 64k and noticed small flakes in the drain pan. I'm hoping it was left over from a blown compass cvt I drained. I'm cutting the old filter tonight, but I'm going to be highly upset if this engine gives out 4k out of the warranty period. I really hope they put a recall out or something.

I've had my 22 WRX for 6 months and have 14k miles on it. I don't track the car, but I definitely drive a bit aggressively. No issues so far, but maybe getting frequent oil changes (did 3k for the first 2, and then 4k for the next two) helped get rid of some loose RTV. My infotainment system did bug out once or twice in my first month, but never again since then. The only other issue I've had is with the Eyesight constantly disabling for no reason, but a firmware upgrade seems to have fixed it.

Thanks for the great content. I've been subscribed to you. I think for the last year or so. I'd love to know what basic mods you can do to the new WRX that would enhance its fun factor or drivability. I don't care about diffusers or blow off valves or any other BS that doesn't actually make the car more fun... Although maybe that's not fair. I have no experience with turbos and or blow off valves, and I can imagine that they do have a fun sounding effect to them. But you know what I mean. And I'm not expecting for you to comment here, but maybe it might be fodder for a future video. I was always curious for the previous WRX and or any turbo car if you can tune it for more power, can you have can you have two tunes that you can switch on the fly or not necessarily on the fly but relatively easily, with an alternate one that actually is geared towards efficiency?

Hey Josh! I appreciate the video recommendation, and it's now penciled into my schedule! The short answer is yes and no to your question. If you are stock and using OTS or even pro-tunes, you can flip through tunes by simply reflashing your ecu which is a relatively quick process. But if you are modified, your protune or applicable OTS tune will be supporting those mods. You can have a tuner prep multiple tunes for your setup though, regular tune, burble, econ, etc.

Because of the internet, now one person reports it. Other people start looking for it and it becomes an internet phenomenon. Every car has problems but be aware that this is a bigger problem of reporting than it is of the car, the vast majority of times. Not saying that the problem doesn't exist, just saying that the pervasiveness of it gets overblown due to the internet and then people like this making videos about it. If you believed everything on the internet about every car, you would never buy anything because these videos and problems exist everywhere.

Not trying to be a jerk at all by asking this but did you follow the break in procedures Subaru recommends with these cars being brand new? I'm very curious to see why yours failed. Very unfortunate but still intriguing. Hopefully, it was just an oddball failure. Fingers crossed you get the answer you want soon. Had my 22 Premium since October (7500 mi), I've had some longer crank starts but never a failure to start. I have had an infotainment problem, screen didn't turn on one morning and restart of car and restart of the infotainment did nothing. AC controls and music (thru bluetooth) still worked, and I could control things, but it just wouldn't come up, total black screen. Tried it again a few hours into work during a break and everything worked fine again and it hasn't happened since (a few months). I've had a couple subarus so I know they have their quirks, but I'm too much of a subie fanboy to not love the car.

Don't be. Every single car has issues, especially after a redesign. Follow your maintenance schedule, break in the car properly, and treat your car like a daily and not a plastic toy and you should be okay. Most people throw on a bunch of aftermarket cheap mods and abuse the car THEN go online and complain that the car os trash.

My 2022 wrx restricts boost when it’s cold out. The colder it is, the more it restricts. The car is always at operating temp when I get into boost. It only makes a peak of 7psi at 25°F. At -15°f it only makes 3.8psi. It peaked at 12.3psi over the summer. The car is a turd in the cold when turbo cars are suppose to feel faster. Anyone else have this issue?

The idea that a engine valve can turn on and off is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that he said this and recorded that is just insane. Engine valves do not turn on and off. It's got to be some spark or gas related issue. That's why cars don't start.

There is another issue I'm having that I can't seem to find anyone discussing and that is what feels like a misfire at 1900-2000 rpm under light acceleration. That's normal. Set the vents to feet and head and you will feel it less.
@DenverDave5280
@DenverDave5280 2 ай бұрын
This is usually caused by the fresh air mode being left on while the HVAC fan is turned off. The fresh air intake for HVAC is right near the wipers and gets a 'forced air induction' type of effect while the car is in motion. Thus, air is forced in from the outside and moves through the vents, especially at higher speeds. To confirm this hypothesis, set your HVAC to recirculate before turning it off and see if the vents stop emitting air. *note - recirculate will not engage with windshield defrost or defrost/feet vent mode active; the recirculate intake is the defrost vent and must remain in fresh air mode if either defrost mode is active.
