I've just bought one of these. My previous bike was an 2005 Kawasaki ZX10-R which I've owned since new. That's just become my new track bike. The "deal breaker" for me on this over the Ninja 1000SX is the ability to have sat nav and phone displayed and useable via the bike screen. The gearbox is sublime on this too, as Suzuki gearboxes generally are. This is also IMHO a little more "sporty" than the Kawasaki which probably edges it on the touring side. If you're coming from a full on sports bike you won't be disappointed with this up to lower treble figure speeds. It gets long in the tooth when you get to really silly speeds which are best left to the track anyway. Both this and the Kawasaki are great bikes though.

I took delivery of a GT 3 days ago. It's simple: the S1000 GT is a more comfortable GSX-R1000. It's a GSX-R you'd be fine riding an entire afternoon together with friends. The engine tuning for off track, street oriented power is superb. It's there and most definitely very smooth. But smooth doesn't mean slow. If you want a more comfortable sport bike, you'd have it with the Suzuki GT. I considered the Kawasaki SX. But the Suzuki is the much better looker of the two. The Kawasaki's ho hum looks seem to be a makeshift model with "NINJA" slapped on the side. And I'm sorry, but an adventure bike is NOT a sports tourer. How those two became conflated is beyond me. Sports Tourers are both these and the FJR and Concours. An Africa Twin is a big dirt bike. A V-Strom is a monstrous mess and a Tracer is a joke. LOL

First time here and I've really enjoed this simple 'feel good' review. I took the GT and the naked GSXS for a back to back test ride, and I must say that I was more in love with the naked GSXS. The wind felt cleaner and the bike was more exciting to ride. I have also noticed the seat/ bar reach position was more comfortable 'for me', strangely. Great review, subd!

Hi Angus. When you said that a throttle is a bit jerky, I noticed you were in the A mode. A mode is the sportiest and most direct one. Most people prefer B mode, which smooths it out. And for B roads I believe you can set damping softer. Obviously wouldn’t do it mid-ride and on all occasions, but set for the majority of roads using during rides .
@redangrevival
@redangrevival 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks yes I thought that was the case! At first I found it tricky to distinguish between A and B modes, however that sensitive throttle was definitely in A mode. I believe the damping is adjustable manually. B mode did feel like the best mode for most of the time. C mode is a noticeable difference, which I think is good 👍 Cheers

@@redangrevival Yes, a lot of people have said that. The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT is the more sporty one, the fun one, and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX is 4th generation, and slightly more refined. Neevesy from MCN, complained about the tyres, brakes and short gearing, but, nothing that can't be easily fixed. The short gearing won't really bother me. But, I did notice that other reviewers didn't really agree. Looks wise, I thought the 1000SX might have had it, but the S1000Sx has grown on me, especially one in Metallic Triton Blue. They're very similar bikes, but all things considered, I'd go for the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. The better dash with much better phone integration, and it will display maps without needing another unit on the bars. But, to be honest, I'm lusting after that 2005 K5 derived engine! I did have a Yamaha Ténéré 700, a nice bike, with great engine, but not the bike for me. Like all adventure bikes, I found the bike too top-heavy, and it spoiled my enjoyment. You literally felt like you could drop the thing at any time, and I'm 6' 2"! Putting your foot down and finding it had gone into a pothole in traffic, or stopping on steep a camber, could be a bit dangerous! Also, why spend all that money on a big heavy bike you're never going to take off-road, and camp sites don't count! Buy a road bike - long live the sports tourer! I got a fantastic deal on a new Suzuki SV650, and sold my Yamaha Ténéré 700 later on. I couldn't be happier, it brings a smile to my face every time I ride it. When I got my SV serviced last week, and I sat on the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT, I was really impressed with it. I spoke to the mechanic about the brakes, and he said changing the pads transforms them. I plan to get a demo one day soon, I'm still going to keep my SV through! Apparently, I heard on the grapevine that the replacement for the SV650 is going to be fitted with a parallel twin, so it will be the end of an era. So, expect the old model to be in demand, and they're already a bit of a classic.

I hope it does well; we now know Suzuki is not exactly swimming in cash and besides, I'm a bit sick of the massive ADV trend. @@redangrevival Interesting and correct ; ) When you started the bike the temp gauge wasn't registering an engine temp, because it was too cold. When you rode out of the driveway it had just registered 25 deg and was still idling at 2000 rpm, that's the fast idle warm up cycle. Watch from 3:00 your first gear change was quick enough to not let the engine speed drop too much. Your 2nd change was too slow, the revs plummeted then the engine cut out. When you ride during the warm up cycle, the engine cancels the fast idle, that's why it died, and when you tried restarting the engine it wasn't too happy, the idle speed was low, lumpy and rough. Eventually the FI worked out what was happening and reactivated the fast idle (2000rpm) and it sounded much happier. Again, not the bike's fault. We live, we learn. Ride safe. PS normal operating temp for that engine is over 70 deg C, and warm idle speed is 11-1200 rpm.

@@redangrevival Knowing enough to let your bike warm up a little is not specific to this bike my friend, nor was the bike's reaction to the way you rode it. That you didn't recognise what had occurred is a rookie mistake, and that's ok. Learn from it. An experienced rider would have let the clutch out while rolling and the engine would have fired up again. Then again an experienced rider would have let it warm up till the idle had settled OR used the quick shifter, because it's there. "Why have I never had it on another bike?" lol, is it really so difficult for you to admit your mistake, even when it's pointed out to you, that you still need to blame the bike? It's pretty obvious you haven't been riding for very long, things will happen to you "for the first time" for some time to come. If this is the way you respond to making an error (new information) then you'll be making the same mistakes repeatedly, as well as new ones, and that's kind of risky and dangerous. 3:33 "I think I'll let it warm up a bit. It's a brand new bike, it's got like 58 miles on it or something. That's weird, it's a glitch in the system I'm sure. it's a brand new bike and needs to warm up a bit" You're so close to getting it. Yes it does need to be warmed up, at least till the idle has settled. And the only "glitch in the system" was the hardware/wetware interface. Or to put it another way, you.
