The brakes on the models S and plaid were if I’m not mistaken the same brakes as on the 5th Gen camaro ss which aren’t even adequate for that car. After owning a 500 wheel camaro ss I can tell you that for sure those brakes aren’t adequate to the point where I upgraded to the Zl1 front brakes, bigger calipers and rotors. I would have liked to hear comments about the ride, handling, noise and comfort, compared to the previous generation Model X. We have a Model S and Model X Raven/Perf and now have Plaids also - working on selling the Ravens. Here's a quick take: The new suspension is much tighter and sportier than before - more taut, but still comfortable. The sound isolation is definitely improved - but not quite as big a leap as you might think. But the dual pane glass and a few other changes do make it more quiet. The stereo - IMHO - is a BIG improvement. Gone are ANY loose parts that could rattle or distort the sound. Everything is beefed up to handle the full 1000 watt output. The new materials are super nice- on the Plaid you'll find metal and Alcantara where you used to see plastic trim. The new carpet is deeper and more luxurious. Everything, every material is just a step better or nice, while still being familiar.

I own both a 2019 GLS and the new X (albeit long range, but except for the tri-motor drivetrain, it's identical). I can confidently say that it is a very comfortable car, and the ride is smooth. To be more specific, I think the two have very different types of comfort: the GLS is more of a couch; it has a plush ride that feels like pillows over bumps, which does mean, however, that there is a lot more lean, pitch, dive, and roll, making it less comfortable in that regard; in other words, the X deals with the bump in a more noticeable, yet much faster way. The seats are more conventional in the GLS and seemed almost too simple at first compared to an S class, but you never get fatigued. In the X, the seats are pretty much thin marshmallows if that makes sense; not too well bolstered, but you can sink into them when sitting properly. As for sound insulation, it is quieter in the X due to a lack of engine noise, and as for wind and tire noise, maybe maybe the GLS is quieter, but we are really splitting hairs here. Keep in mind I have the smallest available wheels on both cars: 19s on the GLS and 20s on the X. I noticed that the noise cancelling feature in the X isn't really noticeable until you listen to music: the 22 speaker sound system blows the GLS's Burmester out of the water with the right EQ calibration (which I found was by lowering everything to the minimum and heightening what you wanted to be more pronounced; that way the speakers aren't forcing certain noises out; they simply inhibit what you don't want to hear as much of); the sound system in the X is closer to a pair of open back headphones than it is of a stereo; you feel the sound of each instrument; no mushy middle sound, and a lot more bass available. I can't speak about the sound insulation and the suspension compared to the old X since I've only test driven it once back in 2015, but I think comparing it to the best similarly priced 3-row luxury SUV is a good reference point. Hope this helps. Edit: after a 7-hour road trip in the X, my points still stay true, although I will accentuate that the suspension is more taught and large bumps are more pronounced than in the GLS. I tried to take notes on my lap with the computer on the seat next to me in both cars now that I have done a road trip in the X as well, and while I had no issues in the GLS when I did a road trip in that car, I did get some back fatigue in the X, and my writing was a little more sloppy. I also want to point out that the suspension was in "low" during this road trip and I should have set it to high.

@rousseau3272 жыл бұрын
@@LOVE-VIBES-X-PROJECT-CARS Your first question is completely doesn't make sense, because people buy performance SUVs all the time from BMW, MB, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc. Why would you buy an SUV for performance? Because you have kids, you like the extra space, you like the extra ride height, or maybe you just like how an SUV looks, but you also like to go faster than anyone else with a normal SUV. The fact that Lamborghini made the Urus should tell you all you need to know about demand for performance in the SUV space. These buyers could have easily purchased a mid-tier X5 or GLE, but they went with M and AMG versions of it. Just because YOU don't care for performance in an SUV, doesn't mean other buyers don't. The fact that you're even bringing the Rav4 and 4Runner into this conversation is completely idiotic. Those cars are also bargains. They even more of a bargain than the Tesla is, cause they're way cheaper, very capable, reliable, and have good build quality. That does not mean the Tesla Model X is not a good bargain as well compared to other performance SUVs you can buy. Just because the 4Runner is a bargain relative to the Model X, doesn't mean the Model X isn't a bargain relative to a more expensive SUV, such as the Urus, or a Cayenne Turbo.

I recently had an idea for hard button vs screen control: keep hard controls minimum (volume knob, and a couple others for HVAC). Then keep a blank slate area close at hand. Upon that slate you can place buttons/dials with neodymium magnets and wireless power. Simple toggles/switches dedicated to particular functions that YOU want. Some people want instant access to specific radio settings, others may not care, and want a heated steering button. Maybe a premium dial with an oled screen you can program to micro adjust drive settings, suspension height, or whatever. But you choose what additional dials/buttons you want, and can change them as you wish. Strongly stuck to the slate with magnets, and powered wirelessly. Maybe just a flat surface vertically under the screen, or horizontally near shifter.

One of the best points made, that yoke steering wheel would probably cause more problems if someone was trying to dodge an accident than not. The idea behind not changing the external design of the car is that it costs more money and takes more time to do. Tesla wanted to get these refreshed model S's and X's in to production and to the consumer quickly and so re tooling the entire body shop, which would have taken a lot more time and money, was not an option. So tesla said screw it and stayed with the older design.

Model S plaid now has package for better breaks costs 20k extra
@adodoes87702 жыл бұрын
@@alanshaji6 plaids should come with better brakes as stock, they are the sport versions after all. Forget the weight, anything that can accelerates quickly and has +1000 hp should be able to stop really well over and over again. For a normal model s or x these brakes are okay, they are pretty quick, but the brakes will get the job done. But you can't double the power and not touch the brakes. These are sport versions and they NEED better brakes, the cars are too heavy for them. Every other manufacturer does this, compare a normal bmw 320d to an M3, it doesn't just have a more powerful engine in it, everything is upgraded with the engine.

At the price point of the Plaid, it may be best to offer the high performance brake kit as an option. I, like the majority of owners will primarily drive on public roads, mainly on city streets and local highways. Even with aggressive driving, the regenerative braking removes much of the energy, making the standard brakes more than sufficient. Let those with intent to track the Plaid invest in the brake upgrade. Conveniently, Tesla has made that option available.
@skifree02 жыл бұрын
" the majority of owners will primarily drive on public roads, mainly on city streets and local highways. Even with aggressive driving, the regenerative braking removes much of the energy, making the standard brakes more than sufficient" With this I ask....Why buy a plaid if you are ONLY doing stuff in which the standard brakes are more sufficient...It's not like the normal Model X is slow by any means...The plaid fundamentally doesn't make sense if you are trying to sell a ludicrously fast SUV only to turn around and say "O but don't use this extra power because we didn't good enough brakes on it" the "use case" was never the problem with this car. Every manufacturer knows brakes are sized to the capability of the car, not the use case the driver most likely intends to use it with.
@izsakitt37112 жыл бұрын
@@skifree0 I had a P90D, now the Plaid. I do enjoy the acceleration during various daily driving scenarios. I don't do repeated rapid stops from very high speeds. I do believe, majority of owners use it in that way. Again, the brake upgrade is available for those who need it and want it. Most cars can overheat the brakes by repeated stopping from higher speeds or even on extended downhill driving, so most cars are designed with that deficiency.
