Hey John. Congratulations form Sydney Australia. I was really excited to see your 200-14 at 1000y, that's fantastic. I've only shot a couple of comps in Sports Hunter class but winning a match in my first comp at 700m with 100-10, perfect score, I was ready to retire!! I love your videos and hope to be half as good as you, both as a shooter, competitor, and a great person. Thanks for your inspiration and humility, much appreciated.

John, that's fantastic you shot your first clean!!! Congratulations!!! Now it's time for you to take that national crown. Good times with great folks. The way DZ is this year, it will be just like this in terms of conditions for V2. Yesterday, temp was about 45-55 with winds switching with head and tail running about 7-25mph with humidity about 92-99%. Fog was so thick you could barely see the 1k targets let alone the rings. Had light drizzle we had to keep cleaning the objectives off, because it would take just a couple minute to completely close off any detail comprehension with the water droplets. Not a good day to test a new load. We just shot a steel challenge, and guys I consider good PRS and bench-rest shooters miss a lot. Calibers that at 1k you see hold a 3-7" group and on cold-bore hit the bullseye consistently even in 10mph wind have a cold-bore hit in the 5 white area. Just blown away by how bad it was. It took about an hour of car heater before I could feel my hands again. Hopefully, V2 will have better conditions. It's not exactly rare weather in the Cumberland Plateau to have cold weather in early May through early June, but whew, been awhile since I've seen it like that.
@FClassJohn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yeah that sounds like fun! I'd always rather shoot a match in bad conditions over no weather at all. That's how last year was there, hardly any holds outside the 10 rings all weekend for most of the competitors. Will be a lot more interesting if the weather falls apart for the match for sure.

@@FClassJohn They have 2 ranges, there is a smaller small bore and pistol range on the other side of Houston. When I was a member there, you rarely ever saw more then 10-20 people there. The Addicks range is way more popular since more people shoot pistol and 22s at those ranges.

Congrats on the clean! I got a chuckle imagining you as you described the your nerves on those last shots. I can relate. Beautiful rifle as well. I haven't shot F-Class in years but love to watch your videos. I was curious if you knew what the setups were of those .308's? Are they running 215's, AI, with additional barrel length to hang with the 284s? I didn't know that 308 was ran that much in F-Open.
@FClassJohn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Regarding the .308's, if you're referring to the .308's in Open, those are .30 cal bullets but being shot out of a magnum (300wsm ). In fact the winner of F-open was shooting a 300wsm.
@rhurst8852 жыл бұрын
@@FClassJohn Okay that makes a whole lot more sense... threw me off that on the score sheet there is one specifically called out as a 300wsm while the others say .308 - Thank you for clearing that up. Was breaking my brain.
@FClassJohn2 жыл бұрын
@@rhurst885 The problem is that some people enter caliber and some enter cartridge. It depends what the question on the sign-up form was but often times it says caliber in which case .308 is correct even though the cartridge is 300wsm. Semantics at its worst sometimes.

I went to become a member at that range signed up and my first match the director was such a dick I regretted showing up we were helping in the pit all day too. The members I hung around were fine, but the director acted like he didn’t want none but his couple of buddies their. Even the members told us he was a jerk. Waited through 3-4 months of moved qualification dates and canceled. It’s a shame because it’s a nice range.
@FClassJohn2 жыл бұрын
That sucks to hear. I know talking to locals they say it's a really tough range to get in to, but I didn't hear anything about how it was run.
@savageguy252 жыл бұрын
@@FClassJohn someone has to die to join practically. I have a sub MOA $4000+ rifle I do PRS style shooting out to 1100 with but have a thread protector with a target crown to replace the brake so it’s legal for bench rest, I also have a 40XB in 7.62 that shoots bug holes at 100 i can run redfield aperture sights or a scope on it. We show up to shoot and he’s asking about our rifles and starts talking a bunch of crap about how they suck pretty much, but his buddy has a somewhat similar cheaper rifle and it’s the best thing ever lol. Everything he says is reasons we couldn’t do it instead of seeing what we could do. We buddy up to a small group and they are great, but the director of that match and his buddies really didn’t give a good impression this was a handful of years ago. Like I said we show up and start asking hat they need help with and we ran targets so shooters could get a break. It’s not like we showed up acting a fool and getting in the way. I just started shooting PRS style stuff more maybe I’ll try again at bayou later. Also you could only shoot 1000yd I think on Tuesday or Thursday then so you had to be retired or have a ton of sick days to make it out. Really bummed us out we were excited when we got spots to join.
