Who says the Limited trim is not off-road capable? And what is wrong with adding some luxury amenities to the 4Runner? For those who live in the rust belt states, the Limited trim is the only version that offers full time 4WD with the awesome Torsen differential and it excels in slick conditions. The Limited trim is still a 4Runner after all and has Hill Descent Control, A-TRAC, and a 9.6 inch ground clearance with 33 degrees approach angle. No Highlander is able to come close to it in off roading. So I don't understand your assessment on why the Limited trim "doesn't make sense".

I didn't realize limited is the only trim that does full time 4x4.. I don't need the 20in rims.. I'd prefer the beefy tires.. I'd mostly be driving on roads.. so the 20in is technically better, I just like the look of the beefy tires better😊

I love my new 2022 4Runner Limited. I have zero complaints on it. I drove 400 miles to acquire it. I will always miss my 2007 4Runner sport RIP. But I feel like a king driving this black bad boy around. I feel the difference in the bumper truly suggests the difference between off road and luxury models. Off-roading you really want that higher not as great looking bumper. Sorry off road boys that bumper just looks like shit compared! 4Runner will always be the best though!!! Lol!

Here is a fast fact. Most 4runner owners never take them off road. They just like the off road look. The limited gives the option of those who are realizing they are not taking them off road and are a bit more practical in their thinking.

Just picked up my 2022 Limited today. Drove it 257 miles back to North Texas. Absolutely love it. Traded in a 2020 Rubicon which I also loved but needed something more comfortable to drive long distances .Running 75-85mph with a 8-10 mph headwind Averaged 18.26 mpg (hand calculation ) which was only .18 off of the computer calculated number. Only complaints so far are the super grainy camera views, however being able to have the camera turn on below 5mph is very helpful and well thought out. Super comfortable driving position, seat comfort, and visibility. Super high quality fit and finish and build. Is the power spectacular? No. Is it adequate? Yes. Very happy with my purchase.

It makes perfect sense as a package. I want the traditional boxy, body-on-frame SUV with ‘good enough’ off-roading capability, but I want more creature comforts than the other trims have. The day I buy a boring, 3 row crossover like the Highlander, will be a cold day in hell!

The limited trim is for people who want a business class vehicle and need the duty functionality of an all terrain vehicle. I own a farm and my wife is a doctor. We live where it snows heavy heavy. Her not going to work isn’t an option. We live an hour away from the hospital on a dirt road that doesn’t get plowed. We bought a limited trim level because the off roads and sr5 are capable but not classy. We wanted safety features, 360 cameras,and leather heated and cooled seats with the ability to plow through snow drifts. It’s for people who want class and ability in one package. The highlander is nice and capable but a Volvo xc90 got beat up on the farm. We need something tough. I’d put money on it your off road 4Runner spends more time on pavement than dirt

You are nuts. 4Runner limited is way better suv than a Highlander. Highlander is more like a “mom car” vs the 4Runner limited is more masculine looking and aggressive. The 4Runner has more body roll, but is a truck frame, and is actually not that bad.

This guy knows nothing about Toyota or it’s customers. I own a 2011 4Runner Limited so I may sound biased, but I am certainly qualified in my assessment. I purchased my 4Runner because number 1) It is a Toyota 2) It is still built in Japan 3) It is a rugged body on frame design. Now for the reason I chose the Limited Edition instead of the others is that it is the only one available with full-time AWD. At the time of purchase I had two toddlers and safety was my number one concern. I wanted the safest truck on the road and the full-time AWD option on the 4Runner Limited was a no brainer.

It’s amazing! You post you don’t know what the advantage is? Besides being a little better addressed inside, you forgot, and didn’t even mention one of its “most” important qualities….full time 4 wheel drive!! For many people (including myself), they live in a place where they have this season called winter. A limited model with all four wheels turning during half the year when there is snow out, is definitely safer than 2wd, which what all other models drive in unless you specifically shift into the 4wd mode. On top of that, if you are doing hiway trips in slippery cold winter conditions, the limited has an advantage. The non limited models are NOT recommended for high speed driving in their part time 4wd driving modes. Do you understand the advantage now? A limited is not speed restricted to having all four wheels powered- hope this helps

Thanks for your comments. I am currently waiting the arrival of a 2023 Limited and was extremely concerned after this review. I thought maybe I had made a mistake going with the Limited but I thought this review was awfully picky. I currently have a 2008 SR5 4 Runner and I my thoughts were that I wanted something more premium than my current SR5 but also wanted something with off road capability IF NEEDED. I'm sure I could put more aggressive tires on the Limited IF I wanted to make it more off road capable if needed even though I have NO PLANS to ever be taking it into the back country (I have NO PLANS to make it an Overlander). If I want an Overlander I can convert my 2008 SR5 and beat that vehicle up. The overall reason for the Limited is IT IS A 4RUNNER and It has a PROVEN RELIABILITY. That MATTERS MOST to me.

Limited not for off-roading??? With the right tires, the drive line is similar to the Land Cruiser - the benchmark in off-roading. While at the end of the 5th gen life cycle, 4Runners are still hard to find - new or used. I have a '01 SR5 and a '13 Limited. There is a reason why to buy a body on frame vs Highlander. The TRD Sport is what makes no sense because its a Limited trying to look off road. AKA the budget limited. I sense some jealousy in your review. No way a TRD Pro with their tires rides smoother than a limited. That is just not true. The Hylander and 4runner are not in the same class. Your review is all screwed up because everyone gets comfortable with what they know. You just bought a TRD Pro and your familiarity with it hampers your attempts to do a review. Highlander has a crappy AWD system (front wheel biased) and the Limited has one of the best true AWD systems ever made (with center locking differential). Also, the limited is way better then any other 4runner when it comes to snow and or wet road conditions due to that same full-time AWD system vs the Part-time systems in the other 4runners (including your TRD pro) which are useless on road and pretty much designed for offroad use only. So, to me, the limited make more sense then any other 4runner for most owners out there except the few who actually take their cars offroad and only in those conditions.

Wow! This review was very entertaining. I assume you're doing most of this to get clicks and comments and its probably working. Good for you. The 'talk as fast as I can" intro did get my attention right away. The free flowing flippant opinions are an unusual twist but it kept me listening to see what was next. However, I think I'll stick to reviews that are based on reason, research, and facts and leave the opinions to the viewers. As for the topic, I can't say it any better than the other viewers. I'm on my third Limited trim and the only other vehicle I considered this last time was a Nightshade which is still a Limited trim. I've never been off road but I like the capabilities, feedback from the road, positive handling, and safety. Its just the right seat height for my long legs to slide straight in. I have plenty of interior room to bring along friends and I can tow a trailer loaded down with BBQ equipment. It rides down the highway like its on rails. It has nothing in common with a Highlander including car shoppers.

I absolutely love my 2019 Limited 4Runner and just ordered a 2023 model. The feature that I won't live without is the full time, full differential, four wheel drive system. Without such a system you really only have a two wheel drive vehicle when driving on highways unless road conditions are really slippery because you can't drive a part time 4 wheel drive system with the front wheels locked in on the highway. Many times the highways will have patches of slippery areas with mostly bare areas. I had three Rav4's before buying my 4Runner and loved the all wheel drive system in them. I don't do off road trips but want all wheel drive to navigate the harsh winter conditions in Northern New York. I have owned many part time four wheel drive vehicles and the full time system is in a different league! I wish that the full time system was available on some of the other trim levels of the 4Runner because many of the features of this package are wasted on me such as the moon roof. In the early 1970's, General Motors sold pickup trucks with a full time four wheel drive system and I fell in love with this technology. At the time I was driving an FWD Marauder Truck off road at work and this had 10 wheels with all wheels driving through differentials. An air switch on the dash locked all the differentials and the traction was amazing!

Alot of people are upset that this guy is saying this is not the model to get for offroading. Completely agree with him on that point, you could def go down some gravel roads and what not but with the extra skirting on the bumpers, the lower profile tires It looks like a onroader for sure. Soccor moms, running around town to your nail appointment or yoga class, perhaps grabbing your latte😂 will all work with this rig. The explorer and offroad adventurers all other models are great for that. Ive got a 2020 SR5 premium and a 2003 v8 4runner with full time 4wd and it is a nice thing to have especially for people not very knowledgeable with when they should switch to 4wd. If your knowledgeable in that department than i actually prefer being able to switch from 2wd to 4wd and its a little bit better on fuel.

I have the trd sport which shares the styling of the limited minus the chrome. The same suspension but without the full time 4x4. The main downside of this trim is the 20 inch wheels that firm up the ride and don’t have the tire replacement options of the 17 inch wheels. Put 17 inch wheels with off-road tires and this will work off-road just fine. Main limiting factor would be the side steps affecting clearance.

I have a 2022 Limited 4Runner. An observation: on your scrolling through the gauge info centre screen, I noted your TPM were indicating 44psi in your tires. The recommended pressures are 35psi on the 20" wheels. This might explain the rough jerky ride you experienced. My truck was delivered to me @ pickup @ the dealer with 47psi in the cold tires; I was shocked @ the ride. Next day I corrected them to 35psi-BIG difference. You may want to try that-it may not change your mind for your intended use-but it sure helps the ride immensely. Comparing this truck and its capabilities to a Highlander (as good as that vehicle is) assumes the driver is never on rural roads. One doesn't have too be a hard core off grid traveller traversing boulders on a 15 degree incline to appreciate the 4 Runners ability to reach the cottage on an unassumed (not regularly maintained/plowed) road in winter, while using it in the urban environment the rest of the week to appreciate its ability, clearance, cargo capacity &, in my opinion, smooth performance. More nimble than the 2 Sequoias I previously had (which were excellent when the kids lived at home and we travelled as 5. But as empty nesters now, this is a more reasonable size to navigate & park with storage. Not great mpg, but when coming from a Sequoia........it's a 30-35% improvement. Baby steps on downsizing, I admit. lol

It is quite possible that the young man who is the reviewer here is rather pigeonholed in his perspectives. I don’t think there’s a single non-luxury manufacturer that doesn’t have a high zoot version of their sport utility vehicles that’s not intended to able to do rock crawling. I am a active outdoors fellow at 62 years old who has a boat that with trailer weighs right at 5000 pounds. I can’t tow that with a Highlander, I don’t plan on doing lot of rough off roaming, and a full-time four-wheel-drive system is a smoother drive line experience and more importantly when my wife is driving in inclement weather as I live in northern Indiana it’s a lot safer. This is just one weird review lol

I’m a mom of 2 so I need the comforts and helpful luxuries, but I am also more into off-road style and always have driven more rugged vehicles. We also live in an area where we are mainly just going from A to B but sometimes do need to utilize some of the off-road capabilities. (Family farm). So It makes sense. Currently own the TRD Premium and looking to purchase the limited because of the kids. Keeping the TRD though. Love our 4Runners. Cover all the bases.

I live in Minnesota where the roads are often a mix of ice, snow and dry pavement. I have no intention of taking the 4Runner on hardcore off roading adventures. (Have an ATV for that). But I might take it on a muddy dirt road or Forrest road. Also, if my wife drives it, she wouldn’t like having to shift between 4 and 2wd on icy/dry roads. So for me, the limited makes total sense.

The Limited and TRD Sport both drive smoothly and are capable 4WD vehicles. The drawback in both is the XREAS suspension, which gives the smooth ride and prevents body roll, but isn't as reliable. This comes as an owner of a 2023 TRD Sport.

I can not believe Toyota does not put the Torsen center differential in more trims. It is by far the best differential design made. Thank you for doing this video, this has been a huge pet peeve of mine for ages. All I see driving around here in 4Runners are soccer moms, which is fine great, to each their own, live your life how you want too, but dealerships should be honest with people (which they obviously aren't). Not only are buyers getting a vehicle designed to be rugged and off-road capable (with the loss of all the things you mentioned -- MPG, comfort, ride quality, etc) but they are losing the most important thing as a family person -- safety. The Highlander is an IIHS Top Safety Pick + the 4Runner couldn't earn a Safety Pick rating if Toyota paid the IIHS.
@K.H1914
@K.H1914 2 жыл бұрын
it’s soccer moms just trying to act and look cool tbh. I mean I can’t knock anyone too harshly if they have the means to buy any vehicle they want b/c it’s their purchase, however, most people who buy vehicles in America just buy for style and capabilities that they NEVER or RARELY use. like a “My vehicle can do all of this but I would never let my vehicle do those specific things.” But i can’t blame dealers for not telling buyers what they should drive or push them into another vehicle they weren’t looking at unless the buyer is unsure what car they are looking for. Also in a business world, if the 4runner is more desirable, and more profitable, hell yeah they wouldnt say anything to the buyer. Sometimes you cant change buyers stupidity. Also i agree, Toyota has SUV’s that soccer moms would be better off driving but again, buyers stupidity. it’s weird
@Wild1995
@Wild1995 Жыл бұрын
Fast fact: Most 4runner owners NEVER take them off road and that even includes the TRD Pros and TRD Off Road models. Limited buyers are more practical in the sense they are getting the smoother street version of what others are driving. This is why Toyota created the TRD Sport. It looks off road but its a budget limited. They are listening to their buyers.

@@K.H1914 You may feel buyers are "stupid" (your words) to buy a Limited. They are not all soccer moms-but what's wrong with that? I may feel that I can't relate to someone who wants to tear up the countryside crawling uphill over boulders at less than walking speed not to get anywhere but a piece of ground wide enough to turn around and head downhill back to the highway. I'm not criticizing the fossil fuel usage/not criticizing anyone really simply because it's something I don't do-and I don't refer to them as "stupid". It's fortunate that the 4Runner avails itself to a variety of buyers from hard core off road enthusiasts, to those in variable season driving conditions for whom a solid, reliable, capable BOF truck exists.

@@barrywiseman7012 honestly i wrote a really REALLY long message in response, but there’s a 90% chance you wouldnt have read all of it so i will keep it relatively shorter than the one i was going to reply with. I believe in the U.S market, people pay for aesthetic and/or features just to say you have it, but never use to it’s full extent. Automotive company’s take advantage of that and finesse buyer’s. They use their past reputation to keep sucking us (the consumer) in and keep raising the prices and not evolving. instead, we never branch out to other brands that objectively have evolved and do more. If you’re an all around person that likes to do offroading, but are also a daily driver, than the 4runner is a great option. Take the off-roading aspect away, there are plenty of SUV’s that have better engines, safety, comfortability, gas mileage, tech. that are BOF. and are catered towards daily drivers. the kicker also, is that the 4runner limited starts at 48k (and i aint even talking about Toyota markup’s)…so objectively for that price it’s an abysmal vehicle if you’re only using it for on the road activities. That’s why i say buyer’s stupidity or choosing to be ignorant 🤷🏾‍♂️. However, I never said you couldn’t be that way, if you got the money for it and that’s the vehicle you want…get it!! but dont try and tell anyone you got it for any other reason other than you like the brand and aesthetic of the vehicle and that’s the ONLY one you want, or you got a great deal on it. B/c if you did actual shopping around for vehicles and what’s the best on the market for a BOF SUV, the 4runner should be one of the LAST you would consider. It’s the same thing with a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Ford F-150 Raptor, the Ram 1500 Trx, so on and so forth (even then, raptor’s and trx’s have phenomenal driving on the road). if you’re going to sacrifice things that are essential for on road daily driving capability, for an off-road experience, for anyone to go around and never use the off-road experience, you’re throwing your money away.
