This is very nice for a body on frame SUV. Better than my 94 Mazda Navajo. (Loved that vehicle). It will fulfill my light off-roading use and is quite nice on the road. Is it a unibody SUV? No. That engine and five speed transmission is buttery smooth. When I I want good gas mileage, I will hop in to my Mazda Miata. I bought the 4Runner for the long haul. I feel like they've sliced and diced the 4Runner line into way more submodels than they need. The only reason someone would go for this, as opposed to the SR5 Premium for a lot less money, is the styling (if they prefer the front bumper and 20s). I doubt most buyers really care about the XREAS, and without the full time Auto 4WD system, I don't see the appeal for the price.

TRD marketing has been an goldmine for the American market. Remember the Scion days? Toyota was forever trying to reach the "young cool" market. They failed with Scion, but hit the mark with TRD. We considered a TRD offroad 4runner... but when you look at the specs and compare it to the GX, LX, LC you see what it's missing for people who actually LIVE off road. Not saying the 4runner isn't awesome, it is. Im.saying TRD is the new Scion branding.. it sells to the young people who used to think Toyotas were boring.

TRD is nothing more than fancy badging and a worse ride than normal. Making matters worse they're not putting TRD/Offroad stickers on a Rav4...a street hatchback car, and people are stupid enough to buy them based on badges rather than actual capability.

Heated and cooled seats are solutions to a problem car manufacturers created to get more money out of you. Leather and it's likeness is a terrible material for cars and was never meant to be a "luxury" material. The opposite actually. I have cloth seats in my Taco and never have issues with my seats being too hot or too cold.

The TRD Sport has the same 4Runner soul. I like the look but I'd rather get a 2022 Off Road Premium. The 2023 turbo hybrid doesn't interest me. My only problem is paying the dealer markup, or the "market adjusted price", but I will have no choice.

That’s the issue I ran into recently in looking into 4Runner options. TRD OR had a mark-up of at least $5-7K over the TRD Sport. Ended up making due with the TRD Sport and using the money saved to upgrade accessories (wheels, rack, rock guard). The 4Runner “soul” is what I cared about most!

The outback with the CVT could not make it up those hill. It would also get stuck in samd/beaches. The outback would also last 100-150k miles max, and not for ever like the 4runner

@@mallninja12 my other car is a forester. I know these quite well. The outback would get stuck in the sand way sooner than the 4runner, mainly brcause of the locking center diff and better clearances. Moreover, the gearing in the outback + the CVT mean you have very little low end torque. This is commonly known as the main weakness of the outback. The 4runner had more power + a low speed transfer case means it has much more power will going up hill. Another limitation of the outback is the suspension geometry. You have much much more articulation on the 4runner. The outback is a great car, but its sever steps below the 4runner.

I was very disappointed with the 2017 4runner limited I recently test drove. It both handled and rode worse than my 2004 Hummer H2 that's been in two car accidents (without being repaired) and has about 100k more miles on it. I'm gonna test drive a GX460 to see if it's any better, it's definitely got more power but hopefully the ride and handling are better. Head to head comparison videos of a GX vs 4Runner, LX vs Land Cruiser, or even Aviator vs Explorer would be really cool in the future.

I think all 4Runners are specifically designed for going off-road and are built to be really good at it, regardless of the trim model. With that said, the only difference between all the different 4Runner trims would have to be the level of off-roading capability. Depending on your budget and your over-landing off-road needs, the base SR5 model would be good enough to provide you with the minimum capability required to conquer most off-road terrain obstacles….but with that comes a classic but very simple 4wd system which means it’s off-road performance capability would really come down to the drivers skill….so the higher the trim model, the more capable and much more sophisticated off-roading system and off-road driving aids it gets to further increase its amazing off-roading capabilities….except in Limited trim, for that trim is more of a “luxury” street orientated model, yet it retains it’s basic but still very capable off-road capabilities…

Why is it even called "TRD"? I believe that Toyota wants to get rid of some parts before they change to the 6th gen. It seems like they have a lot of components left of the Limited edition, which is (no offense) not the most popular trim. To attract more buyers, they build an "SR5" with "Limited" parts and call it "TRD", because TRD is the most desired 4Runner trim. Basically an entry level 4Runner with parts from a higher level and the most popular name. It is still about $1,000 cheaper than the TRD-Off Road. Is it worth it for an advanced SR5 without any of the TRD off-roading features? A question everyone has to answer for themselves.
@wildbill23c2 жыл бұрын
They're trying to put TRD and Offroad stickers on everything in order to get idiot buyers to buy their junk. They put TRD badges on a RAV4 so you can kind of see what's going on...if you put stickers on something the idiots will buy it. Its not any more capable than any other model in that line but those stickers will sell the vehicle.
