Any updates on the RTV recall?
@moldyrefrigerator Жыл бұрын
RTV isn't an issue. Having "too much" RTV does not mean anything itself...There is no proven correlation between RTV and any negative mechanical consequence. Oiling issues honestly seem to be more related to the general design. From what I can tell, the known engine failures seemed to occur in serious track use when approaching 1.2 G or so. It is my opinion that in a wet sump, boxer config engine, there is a point of lateral load at which the oil tends to pool up in one head or another. I am not an engineer so it is anecdotal based on what I’ve seen on amateur tracks. So please, take my statements with a very healthy grain of salt. But I believe the failures earlier attributed to "RTV" had way more to do with the oiling system just being insufficient for said cornering load. The RTV "issue" stems from social media hysteria over someone's lazy diagnosis, honestly the pickup and system were clearly designed to tolerated a pretty substantial amount of debris before any significant blockage would occur. Dropping your oil pan can easily cause more problems in the long run than completely leaving it alone. Just stop worrying and drive the car. The car has a 6yr/60,000 powertrain warranty.
@ManuNarang Жыл бұрын
@@moldyrefrigerator thanks, but the question was directed towards Toyota. I appreciate you sharing your opinion, and hope you'll agree that while the seriousness of the RTV issue is debatable, it's discussion as a potential issue in the first place is an embarrassment for Toyota and Subaru.

No but most manufacturers don’t put in baffled oil pans till your in 70-80k range if not more expensive. Only 8 cars have blown engines since release. 2 BRZ’s/ 6 GR’s. So actually rare occurrence. Ring Taxi has had No issues running Nurnberg ring day n day out no issues. So very track dependent to cause issues

PLEASE get Toyota/Subaru to release a Corrective Action on the RTV silicone clogging up the oil pickup tube strainer. There is way too much RTV silicone being applied from the factory and pieces are breaking off and clogging up the oil pickup tube strainer enough to damage engines. PLEASE get Toyota/Subaru corporate to fix this issue and use simple gaskets!!

It is *absolutely* an issue when a manufacturer can’t get its process controls right in 2023. Stop making excuses for the manufacturer’s poor quality. No other engine manufacturer dumps ropes of excess RTV into the oil pickup tube.

Obviously you've never driven a 911 Turbo S, or 911 Turbo, or 911 Carrera, or even a Cayman S, or a Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo, or well, heck even even a Cayenne Turbo S can accelerate faster (0-60 in under 4 seconds) , stop better and hit a higher top speed, so what is so extra about this GR86... im not seeing it, nice try but its just not quite there, 220 horsepower and 184 lb/ft of torque is really pedestrian in this age of 700 HP 3.8 liter F6 or over 1,000 HP koenigsegg's

Show me the Porsche that starts at $29,000
@milohajek2 жыл бұрын
@@Lord_Sunday123 when did I say anything about a Porsche for $29,000??? I'm going off the Tesla that a coworker ordered in 2015, and finally got delivery I. Spring 2018, and he complains about it all the time as up here in winter country, it's below 15°, mostly even colder, for 6 to 8 months a year and he's not only lost 42 miles of range over the past 3-4 years, but in the winter it gets even worse with range dropping as much as 17%, which translates to nearly 60 miles of range just lost due to the cold, also the sticker price on his P100D was $108,750 BEFORE MICHIGAN SALES TAX and for some reason, unlike the Taycan, E-Tron and others the Tesla for some reason didn't (DID NOT) GET THE $6k to $8k Federal or State EV rebate so his Tesla actually cost MORE then my Porsche 911 Carrera 4 which snickered in at $103,800+ TAX. These "Sub-$45-$50k" EVs are all theoretical unless you want a Chevy BOLT or similar garage from Nissan, Toyota, Honda and others, and yes there is a guy at work that has had a BOLT for about 7-8 years now and he's constantly getting new brakes & tires, he already had to shell out $7,400 for a new battery pack as it was just out of factory warranty, and basically the only thing he says when we are all leaving work is "we you can watch me buzz off in my BOLT" as he is so frustrated with it he has to make fun of it just to deal with it. Me on the other hand, my Porsche 911 C4 has long been paid off and for 95% of the time my maintenance Consists of a $780 spring maintenance and a $1,200 winter maintenance where they flush my coolant, brake fluid, and do a bunch of other stuff. Otherwise my brakes and tires last me 20,000 miles, the guys at Bell Tire always wonder how I manage to get so many miles out of those Pilot Sport AS/2 and the brakes are so easy I can do all 4 corners with new pads in just over 20 minutes with just a regular floor jack and my basic tools, and I drive my Porsche like it's supposed to be driven, no I don't do the light to light nonsense as I don't speed in town, but on the highway or the long stretches between towns up here, I can hit 150-170 without breaking a sweat and if I keep it around 72 MPH I can average 33.4 MPG, which is better then most of my coworkers Hyundai's, Nissan's and don't even get me started on the pickups like the GMC Denali with the $12,000 Turbo diesel upgrade a guy got 2 years ago for a crazy $94k plus tax. So there you go, wrap that in your vegean encrusted Tesla and smoke your CBD
