Toyota cannot afford to not build these because they are the best seller to UN, government and non-government organizations. The Hilux, Prado and Land Cruiser get softer and more complicated by the year so these organizations will be looking at the 70 Series even more in the future.

@@eamonnixon5765 Not with the 70 series, the 76 (wagon) like in this video hasn't changed in its entire run here (first was early-mid 2000's, early ones rare as they didn't really become popular in this form until 2015ish, at least for city dwellers) except for the bonnet in 2016 and if you go back prior to that, when it was a JDM Prado, from the windscreen back its the same car shape wise all be it with lighter duty running gear and smaller engine options. The 80-100-200-300 series are what changes, not these real 4wd's.

So he ordered a 76, six month wait on that, and in two or so years, after all the hoohaa has settled down, he'll sell it (prob make $$) and order a 300 . For me, I'll hang on to my 200.

@@jean-louishamid5285 I have the 4.5 litre V8 diesel which I had remapped to put out some serious figures like over 850 Nm at the wheels. Toyota did sell the petrol V8 in Australia for a few years but very few bought it as the diesel outperformed it by a large margin in power and torque. The price of unleaded here made it a very expensive vehicle to drive. If you can buy the diesel, I thoroughly recommend doing so.

But you have probably the best cruiser out there for real off-roading, well set up 105's are absolute beasts in the rough stuff, in low range your lack of power is almost meaningless! I have a 76 and have driven with more than a few 105's off-road and they are outstanding. Just throw a decent motor in it, 1hd-fte ;) Then its honestly probably the best of all worlds. I mean with the $80k this costs you can still get great reliability from any other Toyota product without it feeling barebones and from the 80s. A Prado if you want a SUV, Hilux if you want a ute, Camry if you want a sedan, etc and a high spec model of each of them with creature comforts to keep you happy into the next 20+ years should you choose to keep it that long. It will still run. What matters more is you enjoy driving it.

Toyota should have made these 6spd manuals and given it the twin turbo.

Yes, that would help. Or even an auto option?

@@PDriveTV especially with fuel consumption, performance and engine noise. My view is that the auto might not be well taken as this car is supposed to be retro/oldschool. I'm sure Toyota wouldn't want to make the same mistake that Landrover made with the defender. In my humble opinion the Ineos Grenadier is what the defender should have been.

@@GRcorolla-bt3mn Why would you need a full time 4X4 on a dry, sealed road surface? That's why they have free wheeling front hubs. Part-time 4X4 user selectable is best, no need to burn extra fuel to turn the extra parts & avoid wind up / hard steering on hard surfaces.

@@GRcorolla-bt3mn Besides being pointless, Toyota Landcruiser 70 series suffer from wind up if you drive them on hard surfaces in 4x4, read the owners manual if you don't own one or have no idea. P.S Only a complete idiot would drive really fast in snowy conditions in any car.

@@dustyfarmer Maybe, but Andrew who runs the channel 4xoverland had mentioned the importance of a full time 4x4 system. Maybe the most important uprgade would be coilovers and higher suspension travel.

I still don’t get why we can’t get these in the U.S? Frustrating. My old FJ62 will have to do.

I personally don’t get everyone’s fascination with these, $80k in 2021 for a SUV that feels straight out of 1981. Not a SUV person myself but I can even see the appeal with normal Landcruisers. Unless this is specifically used in the outback and deserts, but even then it feels like there are more people who think this is iconic than there are people who would actually need one in a remote place.

Good car but not worth 80k

@@mez6256 I wouldn’t even pay half of that for it looking at that ancient interior, but I recognise I’m too suburban to appreciate the durability of it. I’m happy with my top-spec Mazda3 with pretty much every luxury you can expect for the class. For the $80k this demands I’d get a 330i or A4 Quattro, luxury with a bit of oomph is more my kind of jam lol.

@@tonybennett638 no lol basic shit for a $80k car like an automatic transmission option, steering wheel audio controls, keyless start or dual zone ac. I drove a base model 2000s Lancer for years, and even then the interior didn’t feel like it was out of the 80s. Doesn’t even look very crash proof looking at how thin the doors are. It just feels ridiculous when you look at how nice a $35k Camry is in comparison, or even a 10 year old Camry at that, why does it cost Toyota so much to build such a basic barebones car they’ve been making for 40 years straight. 95% of people would be doing far better in a Hilux or Prado. Only a rare few in a super-remote area really needs one of these.
