I’ve had the base model about 4 months now. I’m 53 years old and I’m starting to think this is the best thing I’ve ever bought. I absolutely love this car. It’s incredible. The Prius engineers deserve better recognition for these last 20 years. Just incredibly reliable car

My girlfriend bought this car, I was not thrilled with the choice but seeing that 64 mph to the gallon on the dash and being being able to fit a full size coffe table in to the car was mind blowing for the guy at Value City. The car has grown on me , and understand the praise the car gets. The Ultra 21 Connects and she gets the Emails and phone popups on the display , , which is awesome. Yelp app was a no go. I bought one and love it! In full hybrid I have been getting mid 60 mpg at 70-75 mph ( highway) . Around town I generally don’t drive more than the ev range so no gas is used. My current tank has a 1/4 tank left in it and I have gone 896 miles, my Scottish blood smiles at that. It’s smooth, keeps up with traffic, takes hills fine, just a brilliant little car.

If I am alone in the car, driving conservatively, I get 33-34 miles on electric. Four people in car with the AC on, I will get 25 miles. I never thought I would buy a hybrid, but with CA gas prices and having solar on my home, I pay virtually nothing to drive 18k a year. In hybrid mode only, I have gotten as much as 88 mpg. I don't care about looks or technology. I just care about getting from point A to point B. My ongoing MPG average is 220 MPG using both electric and hybrid combined. 11 gallons of gas gets me 2000-2400 miles between fill ups. I love this weird looking car.

My car charges to 31+miles. I've gone over 40 miles on the single charge. You're right. It's all about how you drive the car. If there isn't a car behind me I really hyper mile. I take my time and when going up a hill, just before getting to the top I take my foot off the accelerator and let the battery recharge as I go over the hill. Now it's downhill and the batter recharges even more. I coast into stop signs before stopping. I end up crawling to the stop sign. but like I said, if no one is behind me I can do this. I'm trying different ways to get the car to push the electric range. What I described is one of them. But I won't do that if there are cars behind me. I want to be respectful to them as they try to get to work, or an appointment. Something else I do is have a planned out route to work. I miss as many stop signs as possible because accelerating from a stop really takes from the batter. So, I get on our local main road quickly only stopping at one stop sign. The other way I make three stops. Believe it or not that makes a big difference in electric mileage. Things like this get me further on electric. Remember these cars are designed for high mileage. They aren't super charged gas guzzlers that tear down the highway.
@dylanhughes5944
@dylanhughes5944 2 жыл бұрын
@@beebob1279 the only highway tearing down being done is from overloaded trucks. In fact, every pothole you've seen starts from said overloaded trucks, growing only when any other vehicle rides over the cracks which then develops into potholes.

The battery in the Prius is air cooled and therefore it is a good idea to run the cars AC to keep the battery cooled. You will gain range with a cooler battery. I have not figured out where the cut off point is... but having AC off in hot weather is causing the opposite result and lowers the rate of charging (regen) too

Just bought one. I was driving a paid for 8 cylinder to work about 45 miles one way, plus some small trips in between my return home. When I did the math on what I was paying for gas, I found I was spending enough for a car payment. So when I found I could get this car for about what I was already paying for gas, it was a no brainer! Ten days driving this car and have not yet visited the gas station! Great Deal! If this keeps up, I’ll be looking like a total genius! 😁

One thing I hate about hybrids is how loud the engine sounds when trying to accelerate. It feels they often use too small of an engine to help get extra great fuel economy. Since the Prius was designed from the ground up to be a highly fuel efficient hybrid, the engine was better chosen for this car and it doesn't sound angry or like it is dying. Must say, this is a great and relaxing commuter vehicle!

I noticed that warm days gives better mileage. Not bad for driving 150 miles on an average day. After watching your video, I have come to the conclusion that the Touring Edition is basically the test platform for the Prime. I run it in power mode because of the amount of hills we have in this area, and I also actively use the surge & coast method of maintaining my mpg. Thank you for a great video.

I bought this car 3 years ago, and am very happy with it. The efficiency is incredible, the plug in hybrid concept gives the best of both worlds (90% driving in electric mode with no sacrifice to available range). Passengers are often surprised at how much power it has in electric mode. Comfort, quietness, sound system are great. There is very little changed on later versions than mine - except for fixing minor weaknesses. I would buy it again, and I don’t really understand why it is not one of the most popular cars on the road.

I have a 2018 Prius Prime and after watching your video they have changed very little. I totally agree that the big screen layout is poor but I have learned to live with it. I live in a city of approximately 50,000 and as far as I know I have the only Prius y Plugin. When I purchased the car I found it hidden on the back of their lot where it had bin for several weeks. I find it unbelievable that they are not marketed aggressively in cities of this size as it is the perfect car for out lifestyle. We are retired and do not take long trips any longer by car. Most of the driving that we do is local and in the EV mode. I checked the other day and in the three years we have had the car we have only bought gas 5 time. We have 12,000 miles on the car and I would estimate that the maximum miles on the engine is under 2000. I love the EV mode and am very happy that I was able to make it through three winters without visiting a gas station. While the cold does reduce he EV Miles to about 25 that is still good enough for our purposes. As you have said it is the perfect car for the time and I can't understand why they are not selling more around this area.

Just checked the 12 volt battery, it still checks fine, but probably will replace to be on the safe side. Changed oil and filters and did required maintenance, runs like new, rarely use gas (only on long trips) everything works and no squeaks or rattles. Was expensive, but very well built and with the tax credit, you can't go wrong, especially if you take care of the car and keep it for a long time.

Regarding time 2:30 - At least on my 2017 P.Prime, it will drive in pure electric up to 84MPH. I presume the 2022 model can go at least that high. I don’t think I’ve ever used EV-Auto mode in the nearly 5 years I’ve had mine. I’d say you nailed it in terms of performance and the touchscreen: they’re both “completely adequate, but nothing spectacular.” This car is all about smoothness and efficiency. Very clean, well thought-out, but not exciting. I also agree with you that, although you do lose substantial cargo space, the space you’re left with is “fine.” One of its better features on my opinion, especially if you live in a cold climate (which I do not), is its heat-pump heater. It is very energy-efficient, does not require the engine to be running, and it heats up really quickly! However, it does have a lower limit on the outdoor temperature before its no longer effective. I don’t recall right off what that temperature limit is, but I haven’t gotten anywhere close to it. You’re also right on the nose with respect to long life: I am putting so little wear on the engine that I bet I could easily keep this for 250-300K miles, if I want to. That’s where the real economy lies: If I’m going to spend $40K on a car, doing so once every 20 years rather than once every 10 years is a huge savings.

I bought a higher trim prime and returned it for the LE trim. Lack of Android auto and that funky screen wasn't working for me. The dealer took it back because my salesperson told me the higher trim had Android auto, but as mentioned it doesn't. The taktile A/C controls are better on the lower trim too.

I have a 2021 Lower Trim Model and it is awesome. Bought it December 2020. When choosing I couldn't deal with the oversized display and I am old and wanted a CD player. My commute round trip is 24.5 miles and I have gotten 2300 and 2700 miles on one tank full! The car is very comfortable to sit in and actually fun to drive.....meaning it has a real quick spurt in electric mode when starting from a stop and I laugh when I blow corvettes and huge trucks off the line. The car drives MUCH smoother and stronger in full electric mode. Quite a surprise.

@rladen1

@@sahil9289 Yes......the other tank full was 1700 miles because I drove on two trips that were 4 hours round trip, so after 30 miles it's mostly gas with some electric spurts as the car constantly charges the battery while driving, braking etc......The technology is amazing. The 2700 mile tank full lasted 3 full months!

The touch screen display is the only thing that is making me hesitate on purchasing a toyota hybrid or plug in hybrid. I have had my corolla for 12 years abd absolutely love it... I want another toyota but this display is not doing it for me. We also have a Ford Explorer and love the touchscreen and its features. I feel like going to this one would be a loss somehow. Uuhg I bought my first toyota in 20 minutes without test driving nothing, but this time around will be a much more difficult purchase to make. THis video was the best to show me all the features of the car thank you very much!

Since winter is a 4-5 month event where I live, I’m actually a bit more interested in the eAWD version of the regular Prius. The small rear electric motor and that the noticeably greater ground clearance of the regular Prius (the Prime is really low to the ground) would make winter driving (with winter tires) notably better in the Prius eAWD. If I didn’t have as long or snowy a winter season, I’d lean heavily toward the Prime with some electric only range.
@robertkirchner7981

It's really a shame that they don't offer an eAWD Prius Prime, but the rear motor probably uses space that the battery would need.

What new features do they have in the new 2022 model vs. 2021? On my 2021 model, I was so disappointed to find out you can't even open the back trunk of a car from the driver's seat. Even on my old 2002 model car, I have that feature. This is really inconvenient especially during the pandemic to do curbside pickup for groceries or fast food. Now, I literally have to come out of the car and manually open the trunk. Why can't Toyota have this small feature?

I've had mine since March. Oh man, what a great car. I use if for work and going to the mountains. For work I use zero gas. For going to the mountains I get 100.9 miles a gallon. I have it charged for when I leave. When I get to the mountain house I plug it in. I run around fishing the streams and get back to the house and plug it in. I leave the next morning for home. I go about 300 miles for the entire trip. I got 100.9 MPG a few times. It'll be interesting how the coming cold weather affects the battery performance.

How did the winter affect the range/battery?
@beebob1279
@beebob1279 2 жыл бұрын
@@baraclude Definitely had an affect on the mileage. My electric dropped. What I would use in a typical day and have 15 or 16 miles electric left dropped to 2 or 3 miles of charge left. As for the gas mileage the same thing happened. I went to the mountains in winter and went between 75 and 80 miles a gallon. I found that once the temperatures are over 45 degrees my electric mileage went up. 45 and below was tough on them. As for my electric bill it's difficult to say. Our rates are going up like everyone else's. But I'm not paying at the pump and burned more wood this winter.
@beebob1279
@beebob1279 2 жыл бұрын
@@baraclude Here is some more information for you about my car's performance comparing it to a gas car. I just did my calculations. My Prius drives on average using electric at 5.5 miles a kWh. If I were to drive 33 miles on that figure the cost for me right now would be .70 cents total. My cost from PECO per kWh is .11706 cents a kWh (including my generation cost). My supply rates will be going up next month to .10 cents in generation totaling my new cost of kWh at .154 cents a kWh. My new cost of going 33 miles will be .92 cents. If your car is getting 33 mpg on gas your cost is about 4.10. So cost wise I'm saving over 3.00 for every 33 miles I drive on my electric. So, It's still cheaper running on my electric than it is on gas.

I have the 2018 model myself. Driving roughly 60 minutes per day 4-5 days a week I fill the 10 gallon tank about once every 2-3 months. With my current job where I drive about 30min a day I straight up do not use gasoline. I would have to check my bank statements to give an accurate estimate on when I last bought gasoline. So even with gas hitting whatever huge amount this year, it doesn't really impact my budget much at all.
