Can I ask what wore out, was thinking of getting a older Prius.
@JHuffPhoto2 жыл бұрын
@@GFS695 at 270k miles the first battery finally wore out. It began consuming a bit of oil around 225k miles. I replaced battery with a refurbished unit for about $1K and it lasted to around 325k miles. At that time my daughter was driving it and the shocks were pretty well worn out as well as the interior was showing significant wear. By this point it was consuming about a quart of oil every 1k miles. I decided to help her buy something newer with lower miles. Probably with a fresh battery and some suspension work it could have gone to 500k miles as long as you monitored the oil level very closely.

Although this generation is showing its age I actually think that’s a plus for 2022. After playing in traveling bands for 20 ish years and traveling in a bus to carry the PA, I became a solo artist and used Toyota vans to carry my PA which was state of the art and much smaller but sounding phenomenal none the less. That went on for another 20 ish years. Those vans got me 300K miles each (2 of them). I retired from the road at 65 and soon after, I bought a 2013 Prius. I LOVE it. it now has 80K miles and is in pristine condition. I just had to replace the 12V battery last month. I've done nothing else to it whatsoever other than put gas in it. And not much gas compared to other cars. When I first got it I drove it very conservatively and could get anywhere from 55 to 65 MPG. But in my old age I've gotten a bit frisky and I now run it in the power mode most of the time and it gets about 48 to 50 MPG. I don't travel much anymore so I can afford the luxury lol! I LOVE this car. At 77 I'll drive it til the wheels fall off or I die, whichever comes first! Oh, I forgot. I did replace the tires once. And did I mention how good the sound system is? I actually love how the prius looks because I don't look at it with that sporty mentality of dominating the road. I look at the prius with the mentality that it's in perfect harmony with the environment. It almost feels like it glides through the road as if instead of traversing forward, it were not really moving at all because of how connected it is with the road and the world outside the cabin. It is the definition of feeling genuine peace when driving a car. The prius carries the soul of a true electric vehicle even though it is a hybrid. Forget about being one with the car, or making it all about you. This car shows you how to reconnect with the world, to step outside your notions and socially constructed ideas about the world and reconnect with nature. Most people are not sensitive enough to understand any of what I just said. The soul of this car is truly far ahead of its time. This is the car of the distant future, a future when humanity has stopped its obsession with agressive insensitive exhilarating driving and has begun to understand the meaning of joy, the meaning of actually enjoying the scenery that is all around us. I'm really not trying to be poetic. I honestly wanted to return the cat 3 days after I bought it because it did not make me feel like an encapsulated king, but rather a citizen of this beautiful world we always zoom by without ever truly paying attention.

@@danmarjenka6361 In my 17 Prime, to have the mpg drop to 42mpg, I've got to be driving 84mph or I've got to be camping/sleeping overnight in it a few days in a row without plugging in. Even the most terrible winter conditions don't drop me to 42mpg. At times, I've "driven it like a sports car" and very few cars can keep up with it on twisty mountain roads. Actually, pretty much nothing can run with it on mountains with big descents and many hairpin switchbacks, after you put good tires on it, pump them up, and aren't afraid to be continuously either at full throttle or regenerative braking. Cars which are "much faster" end up with their brakes smoking if they try to not let you past. Typically, I'd catch up to a car, they'd speed up, and I'd just keep pressure on them going into every corner until I smelled or literally saw smoke from their brakes, then I'd pass them by being able to brake later than them in the next corner, finally using hard friction braking rather than mostly regen. Obviously it's not the fastest car on straight roads, but it's surprisingly good at beating people off the line, basically going 0-30 before you're even across the intersection.

Great choice on the Corolla, but I would add that the Prius also has that same 1.8, just running on the Atkinson cycle and no dual VVT. It is still very old school, and some things about Prius are less complicated, for example the transmission. Corolla has a CVT whereas Prius is a fixed gear set which is less complicated. But in your case, I agree Corolla is the better choice due to the investment return time of Prius. At the end of the day though, it’s a Toyota, they’re all reliable!!!
@manthony2252 жыл бұрын
Why did you get a Corolla Hybrid?
@trungson66042 жыл бұрын
Even though the Prius costs more than the Corolla, it has the advantage of the liftback hatch that significantly increases cargo space and cargo versatility. You can carry much bigger objects like a 70-inch flat panel TV and even a sofa with the Prius that you can't do that with the Corolla. You can go camping with the Prius and turn the space behind the front seats into a nice bed for 2 people using inflatable mattress, with automatic air conditioning or heating all night long without the engine constantly running. The Prius would make an adequate shelter for the homeless. The large internal space of the Prius would bump it into a larger category that would justify the price increase. In the Prius, you'll have the chance to eventually recoup the investment with saving in gasoline cost and repair cost, with the hybrid power train being more reliable and hence lower repair cost and maintenance cost than a typical non-hybrid model. My 2007 Prius now has nearly 180,000 miles, yet so far, I haven't spent any money on repair, just the routine maintenance, and it still runs like new, at 55 mpg on average, per the meter on the panel.

This review is about AWD-e model. An interesting fact about this model about the muffler's shape, color and position. It is positioned lower (so low in fact that there is very little value in the heat shield above it) and painted dark. I owned 2021 Prius AWD-e myself and just recently (after 2 years!) noticed that when looked at friend's Prius Prime of the same year. The Prime's muffler was shiny, sat higher: very close to the aluminium heat shield at the car's bottom. The hole area was then tightly covered with plastic to improve aerodynamics and protect from the dirt. It did feel like Toyota's engineers had to come up with some hacks to allow the exhaust pilpe get under the rear differential to a point that everything does not look as sleek. This muffler's position and the cover-less design were likely responsible for the lower fuel efficiency and lower bottom clearance in the back of the car. Other ideas?

Awesome video AMD as always I just got my 2022 Prius 3 days ago I am also a car guy and former Toyota Technician everytime I drive the car I am highly impressed with how efficient the car is and the seats are so comfortable. I purchased a Miller cat Shield that should arrive next week after watching the video I hope I didn't waste $220. Currently at 250 on the odometer excited to do my Break in Engine oil change at the 1000 mile mark.

Again, great info. Thanks so much. This will probably be my next car. Or maybe the next gen, sorry but I like the looks of the Prius much better than the Corolla. I just sold my 2011 gen 3 prius with 151000 miles and NOTHING wrong with it ever! I drove my daughters 2022 Prius and was very pleasantly surprised at the improvements. Quieter, smoother, better braking, better handling. More comfortable. They indeed have improved a lot. And again, I like the looks.

Man, I *love* the shape and look of the Gen3 Prius and I love my Plug-In. (The Prime, on the other hand... ehh... I guess beauty isn't necessarily genetic. The first gen was rather hideous-looking too. The 2022 looks passable, really kinduva lot more similar to its other Toyota small/mid-size car relatives.) There's got to be a much more efficient way to get good sound deadening with minimal weight. Lol, yeah the C pillars are like sails. When we first got our PiP, I bought one of those extra wide "sport racing" rear view mirrors that mount on top of the stock one. All it allowed me to see more of was the pillars themselves and the rear passengers' heads.

Fun fact, first toyota hybrid that had efour drive was Estima since 2001 when first hybrid version of that car was introduced in Japan. But it is good to see that more models offer that enhanced hybrid 4 wheel drive. It is really working great on slippery Road conditions. So far had no problems with driving off on snow with my estima. It also had the exhaust heating of the coolant to warm up the engine faster and my car is from 2013. Was thinking that all hybrids from around that time have it too. That headlights auto leveling system is mandatory in Europe for any car that has factory HID(xenon) lights equipped.

I traded a Ford F250 4x4 4 door long bed with a 16' lift and 44in wheels for a 2008 prius because gas was killing me in 2008. That truck got 4 mph uphill, down hill, full or empty. I have had the prius it ever since and it has paid for itself a dozen times over! At 189k miles the hybrid pump went out. First and only problem I have ever had with this car. I'm a car/truck guy but, I'm a guy who likes to keep his money in his pocket first! My friends at work used to call it my "vagina"..lol I don't care what they call it. It has been one of the best, most reliable cars I have ever owned and there will always be one I'm my garage. That car would get me to work in snowstorms , when guys would be stuck on the side of the road in their trucks! I cant brag enough about my "vagina" The 2023 even looks sporty! Thanks for the great review!

I currently own a 2007 Honda fit. It has basically been maintenance free for 260K but I’m ready to upgrade to something a bit nicer. I am fortunate that I can, now 16 years later, well afford a much more expensive car than a Prius, but I’m sold on the new 2023 Prius. I think Toyota has these cars down, and the newest Prius will thread the needle between affordable luxury and ultimate efficiency. There is no doubt the Japanese put quality at the forefront of their design engineering, with solid, reliable choices like a planetary gearset CVT and undercarriage protections. A true “car guy” appreciates engineering choices over how loud or fast a car is. I value performance and consider high quality to be a function of consistency and reliability. I think this outgoing year, and even the newest gen, to be top notch Toyota. Easily a 200-300K car with reasonable maintenance.

Now common, who cares about a vehicle that is small on the outside but very roomy on the inside. Yea, who needs a vehicle that uses so little gas (+40 mpg) and doesn't ever need to be plugged into an outlet. What we all want is a gas guzzling truck or SUV that costs about twice the price of the Prius. Oh, I can't wait for that Hummer EV that will cost ONLY $120,000 and weigh in at 9000 pounds.

Yes! Prius 4 - best car in the world. Still in 2022. Own one since 2016, problemfree 101.000km since I bought the P4 as a new car. Will keep it for many more years because it is a low fuel consumption car, real average 3,5l/100km year in and out, spacy, roomy, comfortable, very good outlooks and really reliable. It is the hybrid of all hybrids, because it is build as a hybrid and not as a car with an afterwards somehow adepted hybrid system. A big difference. Drove a Prius 3 for 6 years, the P4 is a much better car and a real improvement.

Thank you for the excellent tour! I always learn new things when I watch your videos. I have a 2018 Prius Prime Advanced which has most of the features you covered. After 3.5 years of owning the car, coming up on 45,000 miles, I can only say it's been exceptional! My total average mpg is 186.8. 95% of my driving is a 20 mile round trip to work. But we do travel in the car as well as make infrequent trips of several hundred miles. I could not be more pleased! If I were to have to replace it, I would either go for another Prime, the RAV 4 prime, or hold out until they have the good sense to make a plug-in, hybrid CHR!
@doodlebug1820 Жыл бұрын
I would add... a used Prime is one of the best ways for middle class Americans to get an EV. Due to our geography and city layouts, it just fits right in to that sweet spot of EV 80-90% of trips and no dead-charger problems on road trips.

When the Prius was released in South Africa it was not possible to buy one, they were only available on a lease. A condition of the lease was that they would never be driven on dirt roads. Why yhis stipulation and does it still apply to modern toyota hybrids? This is a big deal in this country as getting to the more interesting places like mountains and game reserves involves driving on dirt roads.
