I took delivery of a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid a month ago. The Rav was oversized for me and expensive. This Toyota Hybrid technology is very good and the Cross SUV is all I need. Just done first 2000 km and consumption is 4,8 liters per 100km. This is a mix of distance, highway and town driving. I have never experienced this consumption in a vehicle in my 48 years of vehicle ownership. I feel like I’m bridging the gap from hydrocarbon to electric.

I just wished more car journalists would do their research regarding Toyota's hybrid system and specifically the eCVT. It's not like a regular cvt but actually the core of how the hybrid system works. There are many resources available online that explains how this system works and it's incredible to see how innovative it actually is.

Took me a bit to figure out what 'E-Four' meant. *AWD* 😉 Yes, we have a 2022 RAV4 Limited Hybrid. We purchased it very recently. And WE LOVE it. Took me a couple of days to 'Learn' how to drive it correctly to get the most fuel economy out of it. However, it is not all that hard. Our Son purchased a 2022 Prius Limited in January and is LOVING it too. He lives in Chicago so it really makes sense to own. Our Daughter just last week purchased a 2022 Corolla. Not a Hybrid but, the 2nd best thing to a Hybrid. She is getting in the high 30mpg range. You cannot beat owning a Toyota now a days. They are reliable, dependable, and worth every penny. Except you have a CD Player. Damn it. They quit installing those in the USA. My wife and I enjoy our CD's. (We have a 6 disk player in our 2007 Camry and it still works fine) Well, anyways we do have Sat-Radio and the JBL system so it is not all bad.

Nice video! I just think it's expensive. The privacy cover can also be stored inside the boot above the spare. My Rav4 (2020) does not have a CVT. I did some calculations, I would need a 4 year saving on fuel to make up the amount one would need extra to purchase a Hybrid. Only after the 4 years you start "saving", obviously these years can be shortened if the price for fuel increases. At the end of the 4 years people will probably see other options whether that is EV or Hybrid and make the move. So I would rather stick with my car for a few more years before making the shift to an EV (Toyota has a large variety heading our way) or Hybrid.
@benriefourie1152 жыл бұрын
No low range? Its got a e-CVT. Much better than a low range. No , you got the ECO and POWER all wrong. It does not mean you are using electric or petrol. And NO , you dont get better mileage in stop start. High way is still better. Its just not as heavy as a normal car would be in stop start. Love the technology.I got the "cheaper" 2x4 Hybrid RAV4 and I love it.

My Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is on back order, so can’t wait to see that will turn out. I am however a bit skeptical wrt the power of the hybrid and then also the very small fuel tank. Back to your question if Hybrid technology will work is SA. I believe it will work better than EV cars like the IX. My reasoning is that SA is not close to be able to supply enough electricity for cars as well, they can’t even keep the lights on. Now imagine every household should have an EV car. It will simply kill the already strained electrical grid. This is a general fear in the US as well. So in short I believe the Hybrid will do extremely well 9n SA.

I liked your review so thought I'd comment from Australia. I have a 2021 Rav4 Cruiser AWD and love it. The most eco-friendly thing you can do for the planet, by far, is keeping the car you already own or if possible buy second hand. The manufacturing of these cars has a huge carbon footprint even if the end product is more efficient to run. I mean I'm happy that the cars being built are getting more efficient but if everyone could just hang onto the things they use for longer (cars, phones, electronics etc.) that's what makes a much bigger difference than getting a 5l/100km car to replace a 9l/100km car. It's also something anyone can do for free. This consumerism we have right now is what is most unsustainable of all.

I think right now hybrid tech is taking advantage of the fact that electric is taking so long to get here hybrid has been around for ages now, if electric was a viable affordable option in SA we wouldnt bother with hybrid it would be electric or petrol the buyer would choose and thats it. Some cars at the moment are fuel efficient enough and not as complicated thats why hybrid is something you dont see much of people dont wanna bother with the thought of just how much can go wrong. Yes hybrid is great dont get me wrong but like Ciro said its a good stop gap and and the manufacturer knows it. Once the HAVAL gets here it will be a spicey option to this.

I have very limited experience with hybrid vehicles, the only one that I have ever driven was a Toyota sedan...the Avalon (a sedan SLIGHTLY LARGER than a Camry) and that was in city driving. The car got impressive mileage under those conditions but not sure if it would do so well on the hiway. I probably should have bought it, the price versus mileage was quite good, but it was bordering on anodyne to drive. By my mental calculations (kind of rough approximation) that Avalon got about 6 kilometers to the liter.

In reality disappointed in the infotainment system, guys like Chery and Haval are making a lot of noise on that segment!

It just looks to old and tired to me . Those screens are horrible and too low quality in resolution and the seats are uncomfortable. I wouldn’t waste money on it . The whole interior lets it down

Great review & car however it's still a hard sell for me. It doesn't solve the issue of 'pick your poison'. we still faced with two unpleasant choices(hydride v diesel) both giving us the same fuel consumption. Diesel is known for its impact on Human & Environmental health while batteries in hydrid (NiMH in RAV4 & Li-ion in other Toyota cars) raises concerns of Environmental health (mining of key components) & in some cases human health incl. toxicity/deaths/unfair labour practices in middle of Africa. Which ever pill you choose human will still suffer & unfortunately African population will bear the worst suffering due to mining of nickel in NiMH & Lithium/Cobalt in Li-ion batteries.

NiMH Batteries can be produced without even touching africa... Nickel isnt a concern at all. The biggest producers (odered by most to least amount mined) are: 1. Indonesia, 2. Philipines, 3. Russia, 4. New Caledonia, 5. Canada, 6. Australia, 7. China, 8. Brazil, 9. Guatemala, 10. Cuba - then comes the rest of the world... Cobalt on the other hand is concerning, i'll give you that.
