One interesting thing I learned from a US/Canadian site is that the Hybrids get better fuel consumption in the city because people cruise up to lights , slow down and cruise in busy traffic , and also the regenerative braking system kicks in more.

Ordered a 2022 RAV4 Edge Hybrid AWD in Atomic Rush in Jan and got it last month. It was super quick. Aside from front passenger not getting powered seats, there really is no con to this car. I personally owned a Hyundai before and the Koreans definitely get it right with the latest tech and all the bells & whistles. However, when it comes to this awesome hybrid engine with great power and incredible fuel efficiency combined with Toyota's resale value, I think I made the best choice.. at least for my needs.

I completely agree with you. I'm a current owner of Hyundai + Kia -- both of them have got the tech down pat. Going from a 5yo Hyundai to my Hybrid RAV4 feels like I've gone backwards in time. Thank god for the hybrid powerhouse which is what sold me in the first place and I know looks are subjective but I love the truck-y exterior design with so much room on the inside. 🍻

easily the best version is the rav4 prime. after 2 years ownership i have averaged 2.9 l/100km and with 230kW motor the performance is quite satisfactory. this is the only version of the rav4 hybrid family i can honestly recommend. the 67km range is legit for in-town driving and i have seen as much as 72km in warm weather. we do about 85% in-town and the rest is weekend getaways. love not having range anxiety!

Got the XSE and really like it. We were not worried about the smaller screen as the Toyota entertainment system is very outdated. We knew the software was outdated when purchasing, and having this exaggerated on a larger screen would be awful. I was nervous about the blue trim when purchasing as we couldn't see any examples at the time, however it looks fantastic and ties in with the blue mood lighting and Hybrid theme.

Honestly I think the GX is all you need in a Rav4. The upgrades from GX to GXL certainly not worth the extra $3000. Don't convince me the 18" tyre will make that much of a difference to a "17 for an example

Have the GX hybrid which is a high level base model - well made, comfortable and suits my simple tastes. In higher specked cars I find some automations/add ons more annoying than helpful like auto boots you cant just lift and drop manually. Old school but kinda like just manually adjusting the seat and steering wheel by giving it a rip.

Might I suggest when doing reviews you consider the oldies ? We go for Rav's and Foresters etc for the height for those of us with dodgy hips and knees. Also ease of loading wheelie walkers and collapsible wheelchairs. Maybe you could even demo action ? There's a sizeable number of gen Xers out here rolling in to our autumn years but still quite able to get about.

Yeah, their dash is WAY better than Rav4 with ridiculously thick bezel infotainment screen stuck on dash, but Kia/Hyundai's hybrid system is still questionable. I would try them if I can afford to change car every few years.

Hybrids only make sense for city driving. On the highway you are just carting a heavy battery. Yes they can assist a little on acceleration on the highway for overtaking or up hills, but that does not justify the extra cost and gives very little in fuel savings. The RAV4 hybrid has a larger engine (2.5L) to cope with the extra weight of the battery, compared to the petrol-only equivalent (2.0L). This seems completely pointless. Thus I wonder if an SUV like this in hybrid form is justifiable if it is only really useful in the city. And given the small difference in overall fuel economy between petrol-only (6L/100km) and hybrid (4.7), it would take around 180,000km to break even with the extra cost of the hybrid. And then there is the possibility that the hybrid by then would need a new battery, as they are generally only guaranteed for 100,000 km. The petrol-only car would not have that significant later on cost. Additionally, hybrid car maintenance is more costly because they are far more complex machines. While the idea of hybrids is interesting, they actually don't make much economic sense.

The redesigned 2023 CRV should come close to, if not exceed the Rav4's sales numbers, especially if Honda makes the crucial improvements, such as updating the infotainment system, adding ventilated seats and possibly a panoramic sunroof option. The current generation is already superior to the Rav4. The best part of the Rav4 is its outside appearance, but on the inside, the CRV is more spacious, has higher quality materials, a peppier engine, and real leather.

Should be offered as a Phev. The Rav4 Prime with 18kwh battery has been very popular in the U.S & U.K. You're totally forgetting the Phev & EV competitors especially given the recent jump in petrol prices. I love my 2020 Outlander Phev (which isnt mentioned) & there is no comparison to being able to commute 50km & use zero fuel especially given the free charging at my work, local shopping centres and even beach carparks. I really think your forgetting that the car industry is fast leaving hybrid & ICE cars behind its just that Australia is very far behind the rest of the world largely thanks to our Federal Government who currently provide zero incentives or rebates for Phev's or EV's.

I ordered a cruiser back in November 2021 (not arrived yet) - the extra features are well worth the extra $ in the RAV4's (e.g., better digital dash, AWD, cooled heated seats which can be turned on or off, 10 way powered electric passenger seat, power tailgate, power sunroof, auto power folding mirrors, ambient lighting, gloss black alloys, digital rear view mirror if rear tailgate / boot? space is blocked with goods, leather upholstry, etc) as oppossed to the Camry where the top of the range SL does not offer that much more for similar $ ....

@@vijayp1436 Hi Vijay = No! Not arrived yet ! It has been 13-14 months since ordered. Apparently the current waiting time for a RAV4 Cruiser/Hybrid/AWD/White, if ordered now. is 20 to 24 months. What a farce! And the asking price is as of Jan 2023 is now $58-$59,000 - I do not know if I will have to pay that price on delivery. I certainly hope not. This price is for the updated 2023 model arriving in Australia soon. I am still not sure if my car will be the 2023 upgrade or the 2022 model. A Toyota sales rep told me, it may be the 2023 ugraded model, if built around NOV 2022 or later, but he wasn't totally sure. Last I checked with my own dealer they said it was going to be a 2022 non-upgrade model (not the 2023).

The difference when i bought in 2020 was about 2500$/3500$ don't really remember now but it wasn't much, but i couldn't wait months to get in one (which by the way i was told could be 6 to 9 months for a pearl white cruiser hybrid) so i got the petrol. My suggestion would be to go for AWD.

@@wd9807 you completely missed what i am trying to ask. These features you call "bells and whistles" are basic features which should be present in modern cars across all variants. My 2016 santa fe has these bells and whistles. Coming back to your analogy of variants, bells and whistles and affordability. Please do some research and realise the first models that came out didn't have auto folding mirrors, led fog lamps etc where as new models coming out are getting it across all variants so your argument to pay more is invalid. At the time when i got one in 2020 i was told the waiting period would be 6 to 9 months for a cruiser hybrid OR get the demo with few hundred kms on it for 5 to 8 thousand more. Why u ask! Because they are in demand and covid lockdowns didn't help either.

I've been reading up and down Matt Campbell's reviews of similar vehicles because he seems to have a preference for Toyota RAV4 regardless of its being well and truly dated. I found the Sportage and Tucson and Outback but nought on the CX5 nor Outlander. Maybe I missed some. He scored the latest Sportage and Kodiak quite a way below this "updated" RAV4 with CVT by giving it 8.3 compared to the others which rate only in the 7's. C'mon Matt you should try harder to be balanced because it makes it a lot more difficult to decide on a vehicle because your car's guide is faulty.

The edge version makes no sense, with the new 2022 cruiser you get the ventilated seats and the power passenger seats, CarPlay resolution is still garbage. Perhaps wait for the 2023 version which will feature a smaller version of the Lexus larger display.

@@AshwinKumar-nf9oj Prices are always listed excluding on-road costs. Best thing to do is to configure the car online with your local post code to give final price. For me in Melbourne it's $54.4k for driveaway price - silver; but 12 month wait list!

@@hypnoticvibes4184 If you do this, get the AWD. Very small price premium really and a much better driving experience, especially on wet roads. If you EVER venture off the bitumen, the FWD will have you sliding all over the place fighting the traction and stability control systems. Acceleration away from stand still is excellent with the AWD and that electric motor shove from take off is very good considering the miserly fuel use all the rest of the time.

I know what you mean. But I commute a lot for work and turned in my cx5 for the rav 4 hybrid limited. I love it but if Mazda goes hybrid I will definitely go back.

Own a 2021 AWD Hybrid Cruiser and the CVT is complete garbage. Had it a year and considering changing to an Outlander PHEV when it comes here.
