@@shaunnsheather3474 even when I had my 2004 RAV4, it only went between 44-48L when filling up shortly after the light came on. Makes me think that the RAV’s probably have another 50km or so until empty once the light turns on which would make up the remaining litres to make up the 55L tank.

It amazes me how Toyota invest millions of dollars on design, research, development, ... etc. and when it comes to the infotainment system they seem like running out of money and ideas!

Toyota always sources the cheapest head units for their cars. A colleague bought a 2003 Camry and it came with a cassette player. Who bought and listened to cassettes in 2003? Clearly Toyota bought a few million of these head units at a good price and keeps putting them in cars till they exhaust their supply.

Sold our family 2005 Rav 4 last year (340,000k's, yes that's right). Three generations of family ownership and no major problems, just normal stuff like tyres, breaks etc. No squeaks and solid grey plastic in great condition, starts every time and no shudders or mechanical problems. Always thirsty and ever gave up the drink. If you are buying a new one I hope you are as please with it as we all were. I have just ordered a Mazda, I'll see haw that goes.

My RAV4 Hybrid took nearly 12 months (almost to the day) by the time it got delivered in August 2021 (6 months ago) but it was worth the wait. Infotainment is its biggest downfall and what I'm most irritated about particularly since I'm a current owner of Kia & Hyundai who both excel when it comes to tech. I feel like the RAV4's infotainment is even a generation behind my 4-year old Hyundai. BUT... what really sold me is the Hybrid power train. I just love how it goes and it's so smooth despite only using 5.5L/100kms over 6 months of driving in 95% suburban stop-start traffic with very limited freeway/highway travel. I love the size of the interior and also a huge fan of the exterior design (very subjective, I know). Love your work, keep it up! 🍻

It's around $58500 drive away Price. One month with edge Hybrid absolutely love it. Driven 1300km amazing 5.2L/100km Cruiser and all other model got front grill feel bit cheap silver plastic. Edge got some quality front grill and 19" alloy wheels with awesome design. Ventilated cooling front seats are great. Digital rear view camera superb. You will never go back to normal mode once you go digital awesome quality camera 100/100. LED projector lights superb 100/100 Did some off road drive on trail mode absolutely blown away with ride quality. Eco and normal mode very helpful in daily commute. Haven't tried yet sport and ev mode. Heads up display missing but not big fan of it. Radar cruise control is awesome. Cons No memory seat function for two drivers Passenger side manual adjustment seat. Ambient lighting can be better. No Wireless android auto and apple car play. Camera quality (when you reverse your car) is not so great. Ride quality 100/100 and reliability of vehicle and Toyota reputation will make you to forget all cons.

I own a Rav4 cruiser hybrid AWD.(Aug 2021) and the reverse camera is quite a grainy image by default. However it can be adjusted to a vibrant crystal clear image by going into the menu setting and adjusting the contrast, color saturation, brightness etc to give you a much sharper picture, which none of the videos on You Tube that I've seen have pointed out. Hope this helps. Rob. UPDATE: it's curious that all the fuel economy tests done on this particular model reach an average figure of 4.6L/100km. These findings are the conclusion of segment testing only. Myself on the other hand filled my car to the brim also filling up a 5L spare can in the boot. Drove very sedately on Eco setting the entire time in a mix of town, urban and short highway distances always easing back slightly on the accelerator so as to utilise the battery more. When the car finally "died" on me, I limped about half a km on battery power only to the side of the road and put in the spare 5L taking note before driving off again of my total range which clocked up 1017 kilometres which works out at 5.3L/100km which in my humble opinion given the type of driving I did is a far more accurate figure than officially shown. Of course each identical model may vary.

My wife has a 2022 Cruiser AWD with 4000km on the clock and averaging 5.6 litres per 100k. I cannot see the value of an Edge compared to the Cruiser. The Cruiser has an electric front passenger seat, heated and cooled and to me, a far nicer interior. Headlights are really good plus it drives and rides really well, I have more room in the front passenger seat than in my Prado. It is the first new car we have owned that has actually exceeded our expectations.

Thank you Paul for a great informative review. I have one of these vehicles and it's a pleasure to drive in comparison to the 2.0lt 2WD variant. Sadly Toyota decided, in their wisdom to save a few dollars, to remove the Centre Console tray found in the cheaper models, they have not included memory seat positions for 3 seperate drivers as found in the Cruiser Hybrid version nor does it have an 8 way adjustable front passenger seat again found in the Cruiser. All it has above the cheaper variants is the 'Trail' button, which you touched on Paul, yet the Edge Hybrid AWD costs another $3720 more than the fully specked Cruiser Hybrid AWD ??? It's also a real disappointment that Toyota have chosen not to include wireless Apple Car play. Other than that it's a great mid sized SUV.

True, the petrol edge makes some sense for those who may wish to do some very mild off road driving as it has torque vectoring and can send engine power to the rear unlike the hybrid versions. The only reason to buy the edge hybrid is if you really really liked the trim (doubtful) or perhaps if the wait time was significantly less than the cruiser version and you couldn't wait any longer.

You do get the 'rear cross traffic alert system with added break function' and 'parking support break' with the Edge. The latter has saved me once already. But you make some very good points, and they are literally my biggest issues with this vehicle.

Sitting in mine at this minute, love it. Ev mode is pretty much non existent I found, every time I select it, it always says the hybrid battery not enough charge or some other excuse. We tow a camper no worries, still heaps of overtaking power when required. it’s got that slight siren noise which takes a little getting used to, probably generated by the electric motors going into regen , especially when slowing at the lights, gets the eyes looking for emergency vehicles. Definitely worth the wait.

We have done 2000k in our 2022 hybrid Cruiser AWD. Averaging 5.6k per 100 for a mix of country and city driving. Headlights are excellent. I say this as reviewers never seem to drive at night and never mention the headlights. Everything works perfectly it is comfortable, quiet, smooth, handles well and reasonably powerful. Fit and finish excellent. I like the way the Bluetooth links to my phone and automatically plays the internet music the phone is tuned into and will continue with the same music when the car is restarted. I cannot understand the benefit of the Edge, with its ugly interior compared th the cruiser particularly as the Edge costs significantly more.

I bought the Edge HB as i liked the interior compared to Cruiser model but then i also had an FJ cruiser so its a taste thing and not for everyone. I agree there are some head scratching thoughts regarding the Edge price tag and its minimal changes compared to Cruiser models, but wasnt a deal breaker and the fact i went from a 2014 model car (FJ) to this 2022 model for basically a straight change over figure was a no brainer, plus with the recent fuel price hike and the fuel savings between the Hybrid and the FJ are incredible.

Need wireless carplay or android auto. Pointless having wireless charging. Tailgate speed painfully slow. Have a 8/2020 Cruiser Hybrid with 30k. Long term economy is 5.4. It's quiet, roomy for its size and doesn't handle to bad on those high profile tyres. Servicing is seriously cheap. But a couple of things: Can't believe they continue to use the same infotainment unit with quite awful camera resolution. Not only is it worse than my previous 2017 Sportage but it's even worse than my old VF Commodore. Another irritating niggle is no automatic mirror folding. And finally, perhaps it's our age but we don't find it all that comfortable on long trips; certainly not as comfortable as our FG Ute. Overall though it's pretty ideal for what we want. If we were in the market for a new medium SUV I would take a serious look at the new Sportage in AWD diesel form. All things being equal I think I prefer it. It's just a matter of weather it's worth the extra litre every 100, the significantly higher service costs and if we want another diesel.

Hi Paul thanks for another great review. I've owned my 2020 RAV4 Hybrid cruiser for about 18 months and find it just a brilliant SUV, it drives and performs beautifully and the fuel economy is just excellent. However I agree with you that the 2022 update should have brought a little more in upgrades in the infotainment area etc and I'll never understand why Toyota only put 1 USB port in the front and don't provide free map updates at least for the first few years of ownership I would also like to know the advantages in buying an Edge over the Cruiser. I'm not a fan of the Edge's interior with all the orange bits and pieces. There is no memory seat adjustment on the drivers side and no electric seat adjustment on the passenger side. However overall in Hybrid form it is probably the best SUV currently on the market and (if you can) well worth the wait to get one.

I’ve been reluctant to go for a hybrid because they are very complex though this has proved to be not a problem with Toyota as they have turned out to be very reliable but it probably also means that only Toyota can service it which is probably ok if you live in an area where you have a choice of dealerships.

Hey Paul we have had our cruiser hybrid 2wd for 2 years 70k kms. The most petrol I have ever got into the car is 45l, frustrating I don’t know why. Petrol consumption is 5.6l/100km but we do mostly (95%) highway so others may get better. Love the car, the ride is so plush(better than our ‘luxury car’),takes a beating on the road and by the kids. Cheap to run also.

I test drove one. I didn't like the engine/transmission at higher speeds or uphill. I've been driving a CVT for the past 10 years and I'm a bit over it now. It's great for city driving though. Ended up getting a Mazda6 wagon. I don't like the higher centre of gravity of SUVs. I find it unsettling.

I know right! I had a 2020 Rav4 Cruiser Hybrid AND I couldn't stand how you went up hills and it always picked the wrong gear to go into the engine was over reving, I have mentioned this before on other rav4 videos on KZbin and I get criticism for it. I hated that car, the reverse camera was so bad 😫, everything was very lacking and outdated. I sold it and got a 2022 Kia Sportage GT Diesel and couldn't be happier it's such a big step up compared to the rav4.

The high revving is due to the engine keeping in the most thermally efficient range when loaded up, its more efficient as excess power is used to drive the electric motors or charge the battery.

I received my 2022 Eclipse Black RAV4 Edge in mid February (very lucky, I know). It's a great vehicle to drive. So economical and during low speeds (25km/h and under) it's basically running in EV mode automatically unless you accelerate hard. Instead of idling the engine is shut off completely and the air-conditioning is running off the battery. My main issue is actually the passenger seat. It does have the a/c cooling but it is not electric. It is also only a 4 way manual, meaning it has no hight adjustment. This is a pain because it is higher than the driver's seat and with the moon roof it doesn't leave that much head room. Also the wired Android auto is a bit disappointing. Something else missed in the review is the 'Rear cross traffic alert system with added break function' (so if a car or kid goes past as you are reversing the vehicle will automatically stop) and a parking support break (which I can tell you works). And just as a bonus, there is a card holder immediately below the little orange shelf on the right hand side of the steering wheel. All and all, I'm very happy with the vehicle. I'm certainly stoaked to be in possession of one and the Eclipse Black Edge looks awesome.

The only thing not black on it is the Toyota badge and the Hybrid badges. (And my number plate). 'RAV4' and 'Edge' are black badges. Ordered a 2021 Cruiser 2WD in end Jan 2021, Got the car deliverd in Early May 2021 in red. So it was super quick for me. I was told end of Jun 2021 delivery. Only gotten cruiser for the power tailgate(once you had one, you never go back! lol). the XSE model would prefect if it was available. Most of what Paul was correct in review. However a Couple of nags i would say would be. 1) the adaptive cruise control radar distance reset itself after each restart(3 bars distance). I been in many cars(rental) the radar distance remember from last setting even after turning off. I have spoke to tech, they say they can't do anything, it is like that. 2) Power Tailgate does not lock car after it closes. My old (2015) Tucson if the car was locked. Then you open tailgate, then you closes it, car will lock itself(make it great to press the close tailgate and walk away) instead i have to wait until tailgate close then press the lock button on tailgate to lock the door. 3) the 7in multifunction central display is quite dim. especally in NT sun. It is set on max brightness out of factory. Both the demo and my car the same. 4) space saver?.... they could have fitted a full size tyre in that area! lol. Toyota wanted $600 just for rim.... 5) Boot light?... what light??. have to manually turn it on and off and it is so small and place to side. it was like an after thought! Beside I like the drive, the fuel efficency(would love more, however i do a lot of country driving) 6.2L/100km. Almost quiet inside. Only hear the engine start after you moving. Much more pleasent then stop start of Forester i sat in melbourne.

The re-sale value of this thing is best in class.! You will get nearly all your money back when you sell. This should be mentioned rather than infotainment quirks IMO. So low fuel consumption, sensational re-sale and plenty of room makes sense. AWD version drives way nicer than 2WD. 2WD only version drives like a front wheel drive vehicle so AWD for me.

I dont want a diesel, as spending 10 years in the automotive industry diesels should have staied in the commercial sector. Comparing to my old (then new) T31 Nissan Xtrail 2.5lt petrol. Same sort of driving we would get 10.2-11.5lt/100. Would like a PHEV as around our town, its too small to benefit from the stopstart that the hybrid excel in. And a PHEV, we would run on electric in town, hybrid in city.
