All the very best for your planned trip to New Zealand which I really hope happens for you and Alex...thanks for all you have done for us this past season by producing and sharing your beautiful videos from your part of Scotland, and taking us fishing with you on your local rivers and lochs for some lovely wild fish (e.g. your 2 1/2lb belter brownie)...wishing you safe travels and tight lines in NZ

Thanks TK, we are a step closer to down-under since I recorded that intro voice over. Alex has been working hard on the booking, he is an absolute star. So here's hoping all goes well. I feel it's my last chance, not getting any younger! 😊

Another great video Fred, I know you said you didn't have a good season but there's a few cracking trout in there so maybe there's nothing to complain about. Hopefully if you make it to NZ there will be some NZ video coming our way as well. You need another GoPro and some radio mics, at least, for your trip.

I had a wee wild camp up at loch beanie a few months ago, it is a lovely wee loch but we never managed to get the boat out and never managed to catch a fish worth mentioning.
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
It can be a bit moody. I have not fished it for many years but back in the day the average size was about 3/4 lb which is not bad. Have they still got the same dreadful unstable boat? Great place for a wild camp for sure. Not sure I could carry the gear in these days though. 😊
@GusExplores2 жыл бұрын
@@wildfisher the hike in is not bad if you get a permit and can park at the farm. The boat looked ok its just its just very shallow so you need to drag it out fairly far before you can get in.
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
@@GusExplores By the way that area off the beach at the far end is the shallowest part of the loch. Without waders you are fishing in a few inches of water. For the boat you need at least wellies to be able to launch. I don't think the loch is more than 9 feet deep maximum, deepest part being between the small island and the beach end. I always used to take out a season ticket and fished it a lot, that was 15 years ago though, the fishing may have changed since them. Back in the early 1970s it was a 100 sprats / day water, by the late 90s the average size was much better. A lovely place for sure with enough of a walk to dissuade the crowds. 😊
@GusExplores2 жыл бұрын
@@wildfisher it was the north bank we fished mainly it seemed a bit deeper there. The fish all seemed to be at the mouth of the river flowing out of the loch but you need the boat to fish there. We just camped at the beach as it was good ground.
@wildfisher2 жыл бұрын
@@GusExplores Float tube is good there too and yeah that north bank is good. Great wee loch, I'm getting a rosy glow just talking about it! 😁 Will take out a season ticket next year I think. I'll get it by email from Freda at the estate office. You only need four trips to break even.

Been sick as a dog all morning and now starting to feel a bit better had a few wee bits of dry toast and sips of tea but this video has cheered me up somewhat, I love the wild brownies no matter what size they are and I think I see you using a Scott fly rod am I right and how do you like it and if it’s the make from America is it worth the money as years ago I did fancy one but opted for a Sage 9ft 6” weight 7-9 I enjoyed it as I was using it for trout and salmon with no problem but after years I gave it to my son as I was finding it to hard to cast because of my shoulders I am using a 5 weight now just a airflo I bought in the sale from John Norris on the cheap but it works well for me but enough from me or it will end up war & peace. So once again cheers for your videos .👍🎣

Hope you are better now Marshall and thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoy the videos and getting feedback makes it all the more worthwhile. Yes, that rod is a 9 foot #5 weight Scott S4. I have had it for years and have caught everything on it from small trout, grilse, barbel and carp (in Spain) to wild brownnes over 6lb in New Zealand. It's a stiff, fast rod and certainly would not be everyone's choice, but I really do rate it. It will be heading to NZ again in the new year I hope. 😊

Thanks for a great year of videos Brian! I do truly enjoy them. They often provide me with a brief but much needed sanity break while I'm trapped earning a living. In Massachusetts USA we are allowed to fish for trout year round. For me personally though the fly fishing season ends when the temps make wet hands painful. But at the same time that signals the start of fly tying season. My tying bench and vise get me through the dark days of the winter. Do you tie your own flies?

Thank you for your kind comment and it's great to get feedback. I'm happy you get some enjoyment from my videos, makes it all worthwhile. 😊

Sorry, I also meant to say yes, I do tie my own flies although I now tend to stick to a few patterns. Age related eye issues mean I don't tie as much as I used to.

@@wildfisher My eyes are not what they used to be either. I now have a visor/magnifier that is far better than the reading glasses I was using. I recommend going that route if you haven't already.

@@deanf8642 Yeah, I do the same. It's a bit clumsy, at least I find it so, but essential. Getting old has little to recommend it - except of course being retired and getting the river to myself most days. 😃
