@@SamCarLegion Sam in order to properly engage launch control on the Sonata you need to floor the accelerator all the way to the floor, if you do half throttle or don’t give it maximum throttle it will say “launch control conditions not met”, you need to find drivers who understands the cars they drive to give a more optimal result

Same here, don’t use the launch control, put it in sport+, turn on brake hold so you don’t have to move your foot from brake to throttle, give it about 1/4 throttle then roll the pedal to the floor over the next 1/2 second

I can't figure out the Sonata. I own the identical car and I'm thinking he let off the gas to get those short shifts. He's not touching the paddles. So if you done want to drag race fully, then why race at all. My car has never shifted that way and no way he sounds be smoked by that golf. Subaru no longer has a performance car in their lineup. I remember the days when people would fear having to race a Subie from a dig. Now it is just a sad shell of what the brand used to be. I say this as a former WRX owner, sad that they have not bothered to improve performance over the last 15 years. Hyundai on the other hand actually has my respect. The current GTI is also an amazing machine.

Save yourself the pain and don't get anything with a cvt, if you don't want to learn stick that's fine, but the reliability and lack of performance and efficiency are all massive drawbacks of current gen cvts. If you want a fast automatic awd car get a golf r from 2008 or newer

That Sonata is broken in for sure, 13,000km on it. Looks like the driver didn't turn off the safety off all the way as it should have 2 yellow icons on the dash and then launch control will activate. The car will shift at the redline if foot is firmly planted. In this case his foot couldn't have been all the way down because short shifting was present. That Sonata definitely needs another run with it done correctly.

@@billytaylor1697 Traction control and stability control. You hold the button down for about 5 sec and you'll hear 2 beeps. And have 2 lights on the dash. Press and hold brake hard and then push accelerater down fast. Then you should have launch control activated. Use cruise control +- on the steering wheel to adjust launch control rpm.

Why would you use the CVT WRX for this? It’s a full second slower than the manual one.. Considering 80% of WRX buyers buy the manual. You can’t launch a CVT, and it’s embarrassing seeing it not be out in front against FWD cars. That is why no one buys an automatic WRX. A 2022 WRX manual is faster than a 2022 GTI in a 1/4 miles and that’s facts.

I don’t think the GTI would be near the manual WRX. That CVT box is pitiful and the manual WRX beat the Elantra N from a start last week so the Golf..not so sure.

Bought my wife a Sonata N line and it made me sell my WRX. The Hyundais are head and shoulders above what Subaru is doing. I used to work as VW tech and won't touch that brand with a 10 foot stick so don't really have an opinion on the GTI from a performance perspective.

It's the transmission. I haven't driven the MKVII but the MKVII DSG was very quick and that CVT is a joke.

It's 400 lbs lighter + a much quicker DSG. The manual GTi is much slower than the DSG, which leads me to believe the hp is correct but the transmission makes a huge difference.

@MQB R 85% of wrx's are sold with the 6mt, which does 0-60 in low 5s and quarter mile in high 13s. That is better performance than the 6mt GTI. It is great in the snow and is a bargain price.

It doesn't look like the sonata used the LC. There is no way the GTI is like 3 sec faster to the 1/4 mile.

cause they rig races. Watch at 7:50 sonata driver is at 1/2 throttle to allow gti to stay close

@@tylerhumphries9113 i tried to look too if he used the LC but i couldn't. The 1/4 mile of the GTI is 13.6 sec. The N line 13.9 sec. Something went wrong there.

@@avis1978 13.6 vs 13.9 is a huge difference. The elentra N is 13.3 and it was a huge difference between the GTI yet no one said anything? The KONA N was able to trap 13.3 and the GTI beat it yet no one said anything? SO when the N loses its suddenly a big deal? I did not see you comment on the GTI video saying something isn't right

@@sharktin240 i had no reason to comment on the Elentra N vs GTI because it was obvious that the N will take it. More hp, better sport car overall. If you saw the 3 big races, in all of them the driver in the golf explained what's going on with his golf( wheel spines \ LC and so on). With the sonata N line we have no clue what's going on there. That's why i asked that simple question.

YOU SPECIFICALLY mentioned 13.9 vs 13.6 said it should be half a car and it should not be like this. YET when the ELENTRA N puts 4 busses on the GTI when their TIMING IS 13.6 VS 13.3 You say nothing? EVERYTHING you mentioned has nothing to do with your initial. comment of quartermile timing. BASED ON YOUR OWN LOGIC, THE GTI should have preformed better. Based on your OWN LOGIC. The GTI should have also ruined the sonata the way it did as the DSG in the GTI is way more tuned for power compared to the N. The GTI has better power to weight, the GTI claimed HP is to the wheels etc.

the subaru CVT is so much slower than the standard. I've been really unimpressed with this CVT in other vehicles (e.g., the Outback). My 2015 WRX has a standard of course 😃

Yeah, the shift at 4:30 are horrible. Looks like the CVT is shifting at 4000 RPM when in a manual you could redline it. Terrible.

As a former WRX owner, it's shameful seeing this but at the same time I think this is what Subaru wanted. Not a fast sedan but just a somewhat comfortable speedy family car. If you see it that way, it ain't bad lol

I have a 2022 and it’s fast and fun. Daily driving isn’t about racing, it’s about having usable torque in the meat of the powerband. With the 6sp manual the WRX is an extremely fun and engaging car to drive and it has a lot of character. A drag race doesn’t tell everything about a car.

Their's no way a stock gti is going to beat a stock sonata n line he definitely was shifting early or he didn't have the car in the proper gear but something was definitely off there

He was shifting early. I own an n line and from a dig i would expect the gti to win because it has a limited slip differential. In this case it also had summer tires vs all seasons on the n line. The sonata should have taken the gti or been neck in neck in the roll races though.
